  1. I think there was concern of not having enough IF depth and the potential Hamilton may have with larger bags. I don't have high hopes for Hamilton and didn't project them to protect him though.
  2. Which is why I'm fine with putting ARod et al on my hypothetical ballot. The only "worthy" guy I'd exclude would be Palmeiro as he lied to Congress about using (notably pointed his finger), got caught soon after and then stuffed earplugs in his ears to avoid jeering from fans. Even if Vizquel wasn't a scumbag, I think he still wasn't a good enough ballplayer to get in. The MLB I grew up with included the San Diego Chicken, the Baseball Bunch, Morganna and guys getting juiced to the gills. Let baseball be fun.
  3. Didn't realize he wasn't on the 40 man roster.
  4. Why? No matter what, Ward had trade value. They could have put him onto the 40 man and dealt him for something more than what they got for Seabold.
  5. Does Kingery still have options remaining?
  6. Honestly, I was more focused on the Barnes part of the tweet... Jesus...
  7. It's ********. Anyone that is ok with Perry being in the HOF and laughs off all the TWIB's yuck yucking about Perry back in the day can't complain about Manny or ARod or Bonds doing damage to the sanctity of the game with a straight face.
  8. Yeah, we're guessing about some guys that are still in the complex league. Nobody knows, not even the people that work with them everyday.
  9. Mata is NOT an innings eater. He hasn't had a healthy season since 2017.
  10. They can't be right all the time.
  11. I'm not sure I see Jordan or Yorke reaching BOS in '24. Lugo could be a good UTIL guy, but also trade fodder. Kavadas seems to be DH only profile. Why not add Scott or Hickey for '24? Hickey is currently at the same level as Jordan.
  12. I think I'd consider putting him there too. Could be a strong late inning LHP guy.
  13. If you go to somewhere like spotrac, they differentiate these between "Injured List" and "Retained Salaries" which the dead money would only be for the retained salary bucket noted as leftover salaries from players who have been traded or released, or buyouts for declined options.
  14. Sale isn't "dead money" as he is still an active player for the Red Sox per se. Dead money by their definition would be players no longer in the organization.
  15. They put approximately 20M, so I can't tell you what amount they were assuming. About 4M? I think "dead" money is for guys not actively on the roster. Pedroia's contract was effectively dead money from 18-21.
  16. Crawford's trade value is much higher than Barnes' according to BTV. DeSclafani is listed as "low" availability and when healthy he's a decent pitcher. Ahmed is coming off shoulder surgery. Pass. I included Kingery as an option on because if he somehow regains his form, there are 3 club options after this year for 13M AAV.
  17. Niko Goodrum and Edwin Diaz, come on down! You're the next contestants on Bloom wasn't Right!
  18. It's going to be awesome.
  19. Running through potential trade options for Barnes: 1. Mets for Carasco, adds to the 2017 feel of the rotation with Sale, Paxton and Kluber! 2. Phillies for Kingery, provides additional injury insurance for Arroyo and Mondesi. 3. Rangers for Brad Miller? Yuck. 4. Rockies for Blackmon? Yuck x2.
  20. I'm mashing the Mondesi/Arroyo timeshare button.
  21. If we're really forecasting a homegrown 2026 rotation: Bello Whitlock Perales E Rodriguez Cruz Paez German, Fernandez, Wikelman and Mata in the pen.
  22. Too many holes to fill and not enough guys at the upper levels to fill them, yet.
  23. @redsoxpayroll With Hosmer signing in Chicago, Barnes' $9.38MM AAV is now Boston's only dead $ for `23. 2022 ~$20MM (Price, JBJ) 2021 ~$30.3MM (Price, Pedey, 2020 ~$2.5MM (Worman/Hembree, Lucroy) 2019 ~$24.5MM (Pablo, Thornburg, Nunez) 2018 ~$33.6MM (Hanley, Pablo) 2017 ~$18.5MM (Pablo)
  24. If he starts in the rotation, he's only moved off if he hits the IL.
