  1. Do you not like any good news?
  2. Some of us knew of him last week. I think he would have been an interesting addition, but I'd rather them spend money on higher value starting arms like Senga and Kluber. The context is that this comes on the heels of the Sox apparently also missing out on #1 target Jose Abreu. It just makes them look a little silly right now. I wouldn't be all that excited if the Sox grabbed Eflin and Abreu for those contracts.
  3. Because he lives an hour away from there. If he lived near Arlington he would have shopped the contract to the Rangers.
  4. 4 per 9 is about half his career rate. If he could do that going forward, he'd be a force.
  5. Sox just need to sell themselves better. Sox can outbid any other team if they want to.
  6. I think I'm getting the spins...
  7. 87th in fWAR for starters in 2022 even though he through 180 innings. I'd put him as a 4th starter for the 2023 Sox. If Pivetta was a FA looking for Taijuan Walker $$$, I'd pass.
  8. Because fWAR uses FIP?
  9. He was awarded the MVP on 11/15/18. He was traded on 2/4/20.
  10. That's not how it works.
  11. @BaseballAmerica Baseball America's MLB Executive of the Year The @Braves hired Alex Anthopoulos as general manager in November 2017. The club has done nothing but win ever since. How do we get that last part?
  12. If the Sox hadn't confirmed the Abreu #1 interest story, maybe this would be less concerning?
  13. @alexspeier Source confirms @chadjennings report: Red Sox thought they’d reached agreement with Zach Eflin on a 3-year, $40M deal, but the Orlando native shopped it to TB, who matched it and signed the RH starter
  14. Just parkour up to the ladder and make the catch.
  15. Apparently, the story is that Eflin got the structure of the deal from the Boston and then shopped it directly to the Rays who said "yeah, we'll match it."
  16. What if they had taken Brusdar and Verdugo instead of Verdugo and prospects? Would fans have been more amenable to that at all?
  17. The Rule 5 draft doesn't count, right?
  18. It's a MAJOR signing! I won him! Yeah, mind power!
  19. Steamer has Walker at 1.4 fWAR in 2023, 150 IP, 4.38 FIP. Pivetta is projected for 1.5 fWAR and most of us consider him the 5th starter.
  20. How about a DHern update: 12 G: 2.38 ERA 11.1 IP 13 K 5 BB 1.147 WHIP 2.60 k/bb I want to know what the k zone looks like over there.
  21. Will there be a nice Christmas present to open?
  22. His HR/9 was nearly cut in half. Best LOB% for a full season. His GB% increased and his IFFB% increased. With the movement away from the shift, will the hard hit ground ball be more likely to get through in 2023? People are teeing off on Walker, but not hitting it in the air ATM. You can like the guys you like and it's fine. I just don't think he's a guy I would trust long term.
  23. I'd rather them not say anything. All the "oops, just missed" makes them look like buffoons.
  24. Bloom is practicing patience. Fans are being disciplined.
  25. Which means it matters when these guys walk out the door. We can't just expect the Sox to be able to fill these big shoes.
