@IanCundall It's early in camp, but that was an encouraging swing from Jarren Duran. He's retooled his swing with a new setup, toe-tap instead of leg kick & starting his hands in a hitting position rather than bringing them back/up during his load. Looks quicker & more direct to the ball. We've mentioned his swing change already. We'll see if it pays dividends at all this season.

If Song looks good, DD isn't letting him go most likely. Sox would do best if he remains intriguing, but the stuff is rough after being out for so long.

If he was drinking Blanton's, I'd be calling for his head. He seems fine enough. I like that he admitted that he's a nerd, but not a robot and is unathletic. Lean into it my dude!

Red Sox signed MiLB Daniel Palka 1B/DH. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/daniel-palka/14897/stats?position=DH/OF AAA didn't have many 1B options so it's not a big surprise.

According to the Boston Globe, Bloom's drink of choice this Spring Training is Whistle Pig Piggyback Bourbon. I'm more of a 1792 guy. Surprised it's not Buffalo Trace, but glad he's not drinking Blanton's.

If he was really good, I think the Navy would be more likely to leave him alone just for PR sake. When I think of David Robinson, the Navy is one of the first things I think of. Not that Song would be on that level.

Hamilton at least plays a different position. I can see the argument for keeping him. He plays 2B/SS/CF. He's very fast and can actually steal bases. If his bat ticked up with an approach adjustment, he would get a quick call.

I agree. Ward is more egregious than Song and it's not really close. Even if Song works out, it's hard to justify banking on an unknown commodity like that.

It was $100,000. Maybe they catch lightning in a bottle? I think it's interesting because it's a great unknown. It helps that it's the DD/Bloom dynamic too. Lots of story lines to talk about with this one. It's something we've never seen before.

Song was great in a SSS in 2019. So are many other pitchers. We have no idea what he would do against batters higher than rookie ball. He didn't even throw a pitch in Salem or Greenville. The jump to MLB is lightyears from that.

Philly is trying to win a WS, for them to keep Song on the roster doesn't make more sense. I can see why WSH, PIT or OAK would stash him though. I think it's more likely that's how he sticks in MLB this season.
