  1. They are asking him to be "selective" not to simply just take more pitches. They don't want him to just sit around and get into an 0-2 count for the sake of doing so. He's still swinging out of his shoes more often than not. The only difference this year has been is that his SLG is down. 2022: 3.623 P/PA 2023: 3.600 P/PA He's not taking any additional pitches per PA this season. In fact, it's in line with last season in AA. Kavadas sees 4.732. The player that I saw with a lower P/PA than Rafaela was Christian Koss, who is not know for having a very patient approach either.
  2. Kavadas was a 10th round pick, so I think it's a good get by Bloom. He at least adds depth to the org.
  3. I think they may have been overrated at one point. I think they have a really good foundation now. Just maybe not pitching wise.
  4. Like dipre said yesterday, you can get guys like that via FA.
  5. Hickey is good. BOS next year at some point in non-catching role? Dalbec gets traded or released. Alfaro is just here in case of injury. Fitzy is just an org guy. Mayer needs to be moved up to AA. Hamilton shouldn't be on the 40 man. Bonaci only has 18 career games at A+. Probably is there for rest of the season. How many 2B/SS can you put in AA? Jordan needs to go level to level. May get stuck at some point. Kavadas gets to AAA next year and is there all season. Hasn't really shown plus plus power numbers you'd want from him. Abreu is very interesting. Next guy called up if there's an injury? Duran better get back to hitting. Yorke will get to BOS later than Mayer. His new stance could put him into prolonged slumps.
  6. IDK, that offense is really good. I'd take a lot of those young guys.
  7. My post was talking about last season.
  8. Needs to play actual defense before he can be called up. He has a popgun arm. Sox believed in the bat of Valdez and were proven right. LHB, pull hitter with a huge FB rate in WOO. 974 OPS Home 751 OPS Away He's loving the WOO jet stream. All those flyballs will just die in Fenway. Neither of his homeruns on Tuesday night would have gone out at Fenway per Statcast.
  9. You're talking about guys that can help Raffy, but didn't mention Nathan Hickey. Is he Manny? No, but his bat is playing up in AA. Good chance he's in AAA by year end and they dump his catcher's mitt. Only issue is that he's a LHB.
  10. I guess it depends on your definition of "just South." In the grand scheme of things, it is "just south" of Boston latitude wise.
  11. Yes it is further south than Boston. Is Worcester "just south of Boston?" Nah. I think there's a more apt description of it.
  12. He wasn't last season.
  13. He has taken to it much better than a guy like Kavadas. I didn't have Hickey on my list to be strapped to a rocket, but I'm glad to see it. He's had a big bat since the beginning of last season.

  15. Go get it Lycos!
  16. Duvall is only 3ish weeks away?
  17. His whiff percentile is better than the previous 3 years. He's fine.
  18. Uh, Sox are currently ABOVE .500...
  19. STL was a good team with a bad record. Because these Sox are a WC "competitive" team, they will have lots of series where they look a little outmatched. They aren't the buzzsaw they once were.
  20. Late into Spring Training, even. Every team was passing on him.
  21. Pivetta maybe? I don't see it for Kluber. If Kluber gets his control back, he can get back into a rotation somewhere.
  22. I'm not going to fret over Devers' numbers when he currently sports a 252 BABIP. Hey, wasn't banning the shift supposed to fix that? He still has his best UZR/150 and a positive OAA. xWOBA 366 - 84th percentile AvEV - 94th percentile Hard Hit % - 93rd percentile xSLG - 93rd percentile I'd like him to increase that BB rate a little, but I think he'll be fine over the long haul.
  23. Reportedly, he was professional about the move to the bullpen. At least there's that.
  24. He waited out the FA class and whiffed bad.
