  1. If Jack Leiter, a college player, went #1 overall in that draft, nobody would have blinked an eye. But in 20/20 hindsight that's just the relative safety that certain scaredy cat small bean teams need to run towards... Jeez. If Leiter fell to the Sox, half of you would have had to wipe your computer screens afterwards. If the Sox passed on Leiter, there would have been a watch at the Tobin. Gimmie a break... The only issue was the Pirates selecting Henry Davis at #1.
  2. Agreeing with a wrong post as some posters are wont to do.
  3. Jackson Jobe was taken at #3 and was a High School player. The literal guy right before him as I said in my post.
  4. Which ones? TEX was always going to take Leiter.
  5. Nah. Leiter was never mentioned. I heard Lawlar and House.
  6. Eh, I don't buy it that much. There was a little bit of concern, but it wasn't like OMG THIS GUY IS UNSIGNABLE. Pirates went with the underslot college guy as the Pirates cheapskates do. Also, it's good for business to spread money around in the draft anyway, especially since you get more money depending on where you draft. Rangers wanted Leiter and were going to take him at 2 no matter what. It was just the Tigers taking Jobe for 6.9M instead of Sox taking Mayer for 6.66M. Jobe was hitting 99MPH in High School and already had a plus slider. Since it's such a crapshoot, you can't say the Tigers passed on Mayer "due to signability" when they also went for an overslot prep guy and one who took more money than Mayer did anyway.
  7. There are only a lucky few TalkSoxers who see Marlins gear at their local Target.
  8. Arraez was a 3 fWAR player. He wasn't Mike Trout. He has a career -18 OAA at 2B, his natural position.
  9. That's the roster Bloom built. He bet on the upside, but is getting the downside too.
  10. Luzardo has really struggled against RHB this season and is close to being done with ARB for that valuation. Garrett is too much of a soft tosser for me. Rogers is currently rehabbing an injury and took a huge step backwards last season. Cabrera just walks the park. Not saying that I wouldn't deal for those guys, just that Lopez was the better get there.
  11. The offense will have ups and downs. If the pitching comes around it will be HUGE.
  12. Seems that you glob onto that part, but NOT the positivity horn or all the other stuff? Wonder why?
  13. Cowser is 3 years older than Mayer. Give Mayer 3 more years in MiLB and see how well he hits at AAA. There's a big difference in how quickly college bats and high school bats can progress through a system.
  14. I'm not sure what the Sox would even have to sell. Duvall? Paxton? Turner? Maybe Paxton has the best value there if he's still healthy. Dealing one of the relievers that you have multi-year control over seems like a silly idea if you want to compete next season unless the prices are crazy. They had better pieces last year and didn't do any deals. Why would they be more likely to deal this time around?
  15. Good turns from the starters this series. At least we’ll get a day off from Stork tomorrow.
  16. Just wait until part III!
  17. Was 300M an underpay for Gerritt Cole’s father?
  18. Punch and Judy hitter. The lineup is stacked. He's being benched in favor of Matthew Lugo and Phillip Sikes, two guys with potentially higher ceilings. Now that Stephen Scott has been called up, it's one less everyday guy to make room for.
  19. @SoxProspects Catcher Stephen Scott and outfielder Tyler Dearden have been promoted to Triple-A Worcester. Scott is currently #35 on the #SP60. He's slashed .248/.369/.448 over 149 PA this season.
  20. Quite the saga.
  21. Yeah... I'm still rooting for him. We'll see what happens. I think he's a smart enough ballplayer to figure it out. I just wish his defense was a tick better as it would make his floor a little higher.
  22. History from 21/22 is that he looks strong through 6/1 and then fades.
  23. He also had a s*** ton of talent that is no longer here. He traded some away and let some go away for free. Could have grabbed arms for those guys. All he got out of it was Winckowski.
  24. Yorke is bottom 10 in the system for in zone contact rate with the new swing... Just something to monitor probably, but it is concerning.
  25. The best prospects he's acquired: Whitlock Drohan Elmer Rodriguez Cruz Winckowski Luis Guerrero (reliever) Dalton Rogers Aside from that, there are no other top 30 guys in the Sox org acquired by Bloom. He's put forth a very hitter heavy farm.
