It only hurts baseball in your simple mind because you have your yankee bias, and a double-standard about their wild spending and how THAT is bad for baseball, so you come out trying to explain how the long-term signing of a homegrown player is "bad for baseball" just after the yankee spend 400+ million on 3 FAs. You are insincere, and you're so fake even GW jr. could see through you. So save your ********, no one here is having it.

    What's dumb is trying to predict what they're gonna do in spring f***ing training, that's what's dumb. And to be fair, you can't argue with a700's basic premise, yet while that is true his lack of optimism on the probablility of Baldelli/Smoltz/Penny being productive is simply unbelievable. Of those 4, the only one i firmly believe is gonna flop big time is Penny, but gues what? How the f*** would i know if it's MARCH?

    Ok then lemme ask you this: Do you or don't you think Lars Anderson could put up replacement level numbers in the Majors right now? Also: Do you think that even though he's been "overmatched" in ST, his "Swing at strikes, take a walk" approach is not a sound one? And finally: Do you think a guy who swings at strikes, goes the other way, and always has an above .380 OBP all under the age of 22 is "Raw" with the bat?

    Well then, let me rephrase. They were going to jump to jump at the chance to get the best player in baseball anyway, and screwing the Sox over was the icing on the cake. Better?

    I think the Red Sox don't win it all in 2004 or 2007 with A-Rod in their payroll, but that's just my humble opinion. His post-season shortcomings plus taking on Magglio Ordonez's injury plagued 04-06 might have hindered the Sox enough in the long run, that they might have been still trying to regroup, but hey, it's just an opinion.
