  1. For rules to exist, there have to be exceptions. Javier Vasquez 2006 stats: 202 IP, 184 K, 4.84 ERA. Lots of IP, lots of K's, lots of runs. It is what it is.
  2. You need both stats and to watch the games. Certain things the eye picks up that stats don't, like Pedey's all-out hustle or Youk's intensity. Certain things stats pick up that the naked eye can't, such as a guy's overall worth to an offense, or when a hitter or pitcher has been "unlucky" or "lucky" and is bound for a bounceback or regression. It's ignorant to anoint either as the "be all, end all", and those who bash stats because they haven't backed up their opinions in a number of subjects should re-formulate their approach. Same for those who bash certain things that become obvious when you watch the games, but the stats (specially some stats that need refining) don't back up, such as Teixeira's defense at first base.
  3. He went to one of the most HR-suppresing ballparks in the Majors, and to the NL. His pitch selection and peripherals remained consistent. There's no indication that he simply became "a better pitcher".
  4. I recall reading somewhere that a big part of the problem with opposing baserunners for the Red Sox is that they stress that pitchers "Focus on the batter, not the guys on base", i'll try looking for the place where i read it, and i do recall mentioning that on an earlier post. I shall try to post a link.
  5. Counting stats are usually directly proportional to playing time. Remember, i didn't say outright "Bucholz is the same or better pitcher than Vasquez". I stated (and clarified) that in a head-to-head matchup between both teams those two pitchers starting, they are likely to yield similar results. Bucholz is an unknown quantity, but in the AL East, so is Vasquez, there's really no other way to look at it. It's easy to look at his 2009 and think he'll dominate in '10, but when you put things in context and look at his AL track record (which is pretty significant) you'll see that even though he pitches a lot of innings, he's never been a "very good pitcher" in the AL, and with him being older and going to that launching pad, the outcome does not look pretty.
  6. From what i've read, the Red Sox have a "Focus on the batter" policy, so the pitching staff has a big part of the burden to bare.
  7. And how about Vasquez' consistency in the AL? I also love how he points that a 4.50 ERA equals 6 IP, 3 ER every time out. Last time i checked, neither Vasquez (or anyone else) had a quality start every time out.
  8. And, he's making retarded arguments, but calling me retarded. Personal insults to try and compensate for a lack of a convincing argument. I notice a pattern here.
  9. Varitek can still hit lefties though. However, Wagner and Brown can both do something Varitek can't do to save his life: Actually throw a runner out.
  10. You'll never let that go, will you. I rue the day i made fun of the fact that your girlfriend obviously wears the pants in that relationship.
  11. I'll quote it. It's that good.
  12. Lol ok there buddy. "Everyone else". LMAO. And yes, i'm being sarcastic.
