  1. MLB: Cal Ripken Jr., 2,632 games, May 30, 1982-September 19, 1998 NBA: A.C. Green, 1,192 games, November 19, 1986-April 17, 2001 NHL: Doug Jarvis, 964 games, October 8, 1975-October 10, 1987 NFL: Jim Marshall, 282 games/Brett Favre, 279 games, September 27, 1992-Present Day Edit: Technically, Jeff Feagles holds the NFL record for consecutive games played, but he's a punter so...
  2. It depends on if Hughes and Chamberlain are capable of being starters. Hughes was having a bad season as a starter before the Yankees moved him to the pen. Chamberlain hasn't been able to go deep into games and got exposed in 2009 as a starter. His endurance, or lack thereof, leads me to believe that he belongs in the pen. Chamberlain and Hughes are a little younger than Buchholz, but the age difference is negligible. At this point, Buchholz has more perceived value than both of them. He lost the mystique of his no-no, but bounced back nicely this year. They're all still sort of a mystery, but moving forward Buchholz seems the most likely to remain a starter. Meanwhile, the Yankees still don't know what to do with Chamberlain or Hughes. I would go with Buchholz.
  3. The fact that Nick Green is even being mentioned is depressing.
  4. Only a matter of time. Phenoms like Strasburg seldom stay healthy.
  5. Why do you guys want Johnson again? I wouldn't give up any prospects for him. As far as durability is concerned, he's one of the worst starters in all of baseball.
  6. Josh Johnson is an ace when he's healthy, but the man is brittle. He's Kerry Wood Jr. Jul 10, 2008: Missed 91 games (elbow surgery). Mar 29, 2008: Transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL (elbow surgery). Mar 24, 2008: Elbow surgery, 15-day DL. Oct 1, 2007: Missed the last 77 games of the regular season (forearm injury). Aug 10, 2007: Transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL (forearm injury). Jul 5, 2007: Forearm injury, 15-day DL. Jun 18, 2007: Missed 70 games (bicep injury). Mar 31, 2007: Bicep injury, 15-day DL. Sep 21, 2006: Right forearm injury, day-to-day.
  7. Yeah, I also don't see how it would work with the Celtics. The playing time just isn't there. At this point in his career he might settle for being a role player, but not someone who rides the bench.
  8. Nice Seinfeld reference.
  9. I don't care where AI ends up. I just hope a team picks him up and gives him some playing time. His career shouldn't end this way.
  10. I wouldn't call Pippen an offensive powerhouse, even when Jordan left and he had to be "the man." He could score, yes, but not at will. It was his all-around game that made him so great. He was a good passer, a good rebounder, used the glass a lot, and like you said he was a lockdown defender. Maybe the greatest defensive small forward ever. If you look at highlight reels, what really jumps out at you is how much offense was created by the Bulls' defense. Jordan and Pippen ran the fast break better than anyone. I'll always remember Pippen for his agility. He made it look so easy. I think had Tracy McGrady focused a little less on scoring, he could have been the two-way player Pippen was. Harper came over to the Bulls when his knees were shot. That's why he wasn't the same player. But he knew his role. He played defense and didn't turn the ball over. He did things for the Bulls that you never saw on the stat sheet. The Bulls always had guys who were deadly from behind the arc. Before Kerr they had Paxson, Armstrong, and Hodges. And they had a lot of good looks because of Jordan's unparalleled ability to penetrate. The Pistons had the Bulls' number for three years, and then they got too old. Games against the Knicks were always physical. I'm pretty sure that series against the Pacers in '98 was the only series that went all 7 games during the championship years with Jordan. The Knicks beat the Bulls in 7 after Jordan retired in '94. And the Magic beat the Bulls in 6 when Jordan came back and wasn't yet himself. Seeing Nick Anderson on the breakaway after stealing the ball from MJ is my saddest memory of His Airness. But then he came back with a chip on his shoulder the next year, and that's how 72-10 happened.
  11. Wow, I did not realize Granderson was so bad against lefties. Just checked the splits.
  12. Wade and LeBron could possibly be even better than Jordan and Pippen. The only problem might be chemistry and who becomes the go-to-guy in crunch time. Pippen was always willing to play second fiddle to Jordan. Between Wade and LeBron... there is no clear "sidekick" there.
  13. And Austin Jackson had a .759 OPS this year in AAA, but he's going to be a stud, right?
  14. I don't know anything about Murray Chass, other than the fact that he has crusaded against "faith nights" and baseball chapel services in locker rooms on Sunday mornings, and for that alone I like him.
  15. Wow, Brandon Jennings dropped 55 tonight. I said I wanted Jonny Flynn to win RoY, and I stand by that, but Jennings is having an oustanding season so far.
  16. He's driving up the price by fueling rumors about going to New York and Miami. I think he'll stay in Cleveland. Btw, classy move by him to try to retire MJ's number league-wide.
  17. Well, what I'm saying is it's not really a good contingency plan unless you get another big free agent to go along with Uggla. Because losing Bay and gaining Uggla does not make this team better.
  18. Not a big fan of Dan Uggla. And he would not be a good replacement for Bay, offensively or defensively. Bay or Holliday in left field. Anything less is a compromise.
  19. Go away, troll.
  20. From what I've seen of Evans, I'm impressed. But Wade slashes and gets to the basket with grace and finesse while Evans seems to use his brute strength to get to the basket. He reminds me more of a young Paul Pierce. He finishes strong. With Kevin Martin out, Evans should get a lot of playing time. He needs to work on his shot. I've liked Jonny Flynn since Syracuse. Little man has big game. I'd like to see him win RoY.
