  1. Cassel seems to have tied this nearly game single-handedly. 61% passing and our lead rusher as well. Gotta hold here
  2. Meanwhile, the Bruins just made one heck of a statement against the Canadiens. 6-1 win.
  3. I thought they'd play Fernandez against the Blackhawks in order to put Thomas in net against the Canadiens. Line up your best for the more critical game and all that Definitely agree with Manny between the pipes tonight.
  4. Which distinguishes them from Brown how? Other than the fact that Brown is still waiting for his first team to give up on him of course.
  5. Never can quite get over the Yankees' ability to acquire useful players for nothing nobody never-was trash that they do not themselves want.
  6. I dunno, if he's 100% maybe but there's NO way that he's 100% so we're probably still in "Any Warm Body" mode. The weather shouldn't be a huge problem for the kind of game Cassel plays, and it might even help the slot game by slowing down the D. Welker, BJGE and, if you're right, Morris will play a big role tonight.
  7. Gonna need another big game by the Law Firm tonight.
  8. Just a question: Do you mean that or are you taking a sarcastic swipe at others who like to hate on Boras for making sure players get paid?
  9. If it wasn't him it'd be another agent. You know that right?
  10. The Hawks had an incredible night from 3 point land. WIthout a flukishly high 3 point field goal % the game isn't close.
  11. I really doubt that Lowe gets 5 years from anyone. SInkerballer he may be but if he gets to 40 it'll be on a couple of 1 and 2 year contracts after this upcoming one.
  12. http://hotstove.mlblogs.com/archives/2008/11/red_sox_reunion_for_lowe.html Not the worst idea. Our infield, and Lowe himself, have both undergone a metamorphosis since he was last in Boston, and he is a Beantown hero. He's old enough that it should be possible to strike a 2-3 year deal and he has a secondary benefit as a possible mentor for Masterson. Bring him on in to fill that gap in the rotation
  13. Jack Cust, Ryan Ludwick. Mike Aviles, Jeremy Guthrie, Carlos Pena, Rick Ankiel, Brendan Donnelly, Jorge Campillo, JJ Putz, and that's just from the list of currently active players and only counting all-star quality ballplayers, which is a level we really aren't expecting Brown to reach. I believe Brown broke through this year but wasn't given a chance to prove it at the big league level because of the congestion at the catcher position. It's not a question therefore of waiting for him to get it after age 26. He got it at age 26 and it's a question of letting him prove it..
  14. Edited for truth
  15. I'd call the shootout win great except that it was pretty much a story of Habibulin single-handedly giving his team a point rather than the Bruins pulling anything off.
  16. Tell ya something though the C's are going to need to stop giving me a heart attack.
  17. Pierce is sick. I thought when the zebras turned on the Celtics with 3 mins to go in the 4th that they were officially 7-2. Pierce made some bookie very unhappy.
  18. PIERCE! PIERCE AGAIN WITH THE LAST SECOND DEFLECTION! CELTICS WIN! Flopper Bibby and all, that Hawks team is GOOD
  19. I know it's all too fashionable to be hard on the referees, but the Celts are getting RAPED late in the Hawks game! Bibby is a master flopper and the umps are buying every maneuver.
  20. This economy is going to get worse though. We haven't really addressed the issues causing this slide and the measures we are taking will only make matters worse in the long run. With the debt load increasing exponentially and debt service taking a bigger and bigger bite of the budget we might be counting down the weeks until the Dollar goes 1990's Russian Ruble on us. A lot of prices are going to go up at that point.
  21. This is at least an interesting basis to argue the HoF merits of Curt "never won a CYA" Schilling. Of course 5,000 strikeouts and 7 no-hitters puts Ryan leagues ahead of Schill.
  22. Your mistake here is thinking that the CYA says anything about how good a pitcher you are. And what takes Ryan down not one notch, but several, is the walks.
  23. There are years where Ryan led the league in both strikeouts and walks. I'd have to look it up and confirm, but I'm betting Ryan is the only player to strike out 300 batters and walk 200 in the same year twice. I can't blame the writers for being a bit turned off by his effectively wild career. Let's be honest: Ryan was one of the best pitchers in baseball, but the reason he was one of the best pitchers in the baseball is a combination of ungodly natural stuff and longevity, there really wasn't ever a ton of finesse there. There never really had to be. The stuff was always that good. He spent pretty much his entire career trying to blow it by people and doing it successfully. Ryan is and always will be the best thrower of all time, but there are always better Pitchers with pure stuff that's only somewhat worse. So no, not really shocked that even after all he was the writers snubbed him.
