  1. That's about what I thought until I compared the numbers. Nobody would actually buy it unless Cassel took us to a Superbowl but I'm not joking -- it's at least close enough at this point to ask about a comparison. At the same level of development Brady was probably a little worse than Cassel, and Matt has much better mobility and throws well on the run to make up for Brady's greatest strengths of rapidfire decision making and accuracy.
  2. I have to ask: Now that he's got his feet under him is it possible that Cassel might even be as good or better than Brady?
  3. Brawl. Matt Light ejected. He had Crowder by the hair and was tomahawking him to the back of the head.
  4. And the D stands up! INTERCEPTION! Merriweather carries it inside the 20.
  5. Cassel goes deep to Moss! At last! Another great game by Matt Cassel who is CARRYING THIS TEAM right now!
  6. Faulk found the cavern the Fins left in their defense.
  7. WHAT A RUN BY WES WELKER!
  8. Nonono, keep using it keep usingi t!
  9. Here comes Pennington. Is the Patriots defense going to do.... anything useful? EDIT: Message to Patriots D: LEARN HOW TO TACKLE!
  10. Cassel looking frickin' good. At what point do we look at Brady vs. Cassel and actually have to make a judgement call? Cassel's already looking brilliant, is approaching consistency, and he's still got room to grow.
  11. Because he won a fight against a Hab the last time they played. This is obviously intolerable and must be severely punished. Love that he had a goal tonight. Considering that the Habs' coach was trying to take Lucic out of the game, that represents a dagger to the heart.
  12. Why not? Each of the last several years we've been in situations down the stretch where we could have used one more starter. If Schilling's shoulder is healthy enough he would represent some pretty interesting Wakefield insurance if nothing else. And if his shoulder is (finally) back to full strength, then maybe we'll see him hit the low 90's again with his fastball, which would make him VERY interesting at the bottom of a rotation.
  13. LOL a,, the idiots at HFBoards' Canadiens' division are up in arms because Lucic didn't drop 'em with Laraque. I mean, seriously, not only did Lucic already bloody his knuckles just last night, and was probably under orders not to fight anyway but seriously... it's Laraque.
  14. Bruins win. #1 in the Eastern conference. Thomas stoned the Habs in the shootout. We're seeing what Tim Thomas can do with regular rest and it's exciting. Nothing better than beating the Canadiens on a night when they retired the number of a goaltender who absolutely tormented us.
  15. One point locked down. Pity about that late Montreal goal.
  16. I hope that from an MLB perspective, the WBC becomes another part of Winter Ball, a place you send MLB-ready prospects and struggling younger players to get a bit of extra work, rather than something that established and vitally-needed major veterans go to play and wear them down. (like we might clear George Kottaras and Hunter Jones to play to see what we have, but not anyone we have signed for multiple years at 8 figures a year) If it becomes that, then bring on WBC.
  17. What can you say at this point? They just keep winning. Injury concerns tonight: Wideman, Krejci, Savard, all had to limp off the ice. Savard in particular looks bad. Krejci and Wideman came back, Savard tried but had to leave again. Also he didn't come out for the victory lap and disappeared in the third quarter. Ward also decided to take issue with whatever hurt him (off camera) and he was favoring his knee. Shades of Cam Neely? God I hope not.
  18. Tremendous pass by Savard to make Kessel's goal absurdly easy.
  19. Schilling, yes I think there was. Mostly in 2006 when it was becoming clear that the season was going to hell in a handbasket anyway and he might have represented a valuable trade commodity. And we've been talking about trading Lowell since he got here. There were plenty of Lowell rumors in '06 and early '07, culminating in his potential involvement in the proposed Todd Helton trade. Limiting conversation around either player to LAST year is ridiculous as both were free agents. A-Rod is a special case because of the size of his contract. But doesn't anyone else remember all the A-Rod for Erven Santana rumors back in 2006 after his "off" year?
  20. Crap. I believe the evidence points to Matsuzaka having pitched through shoulder problems all this year. Besides the fact that he actually spent time on the DL this year for that shoulder, lost velocity, stuff and command would all be explained by either a shoulder injury or shoulder fatigue. This will not help, if that is indeed the issue.
  21. Actually the only one about which that was true is Guerrero. Giambi had some rumors, if you counted rumors that the Yankees wanted to dump him. Delgado, same story, remembering that he wasn't hitting that much for the first few months of the season.
  22. Any time a prominent veteran player is 2 years or fewer away from the end of his deal there will be trade rumors.
  23. Don't write the NL off too quickly. Ortiz is not an incompetent 1Bman. If the knee is back healthy, who knows? Agreed that the chances are remote however.
