  1. Disagree. He was doing fine as a rookie starter before they shifted him to the pen. He had some rookie scuffles but was pretty much a lock for 6 innings and picked up a lot of quality starts. If he developed a bit more and walked lefties a lot less there's no reason why he couldn't be a great starter.
  2. I could see the Rangers shocking everyone. Sabathia would be a decent place to start to rebuild that devestated pitching staff.
  3. What are you talking about, Kilo? He'll get paid no matter where he goes. A big contract is a virtual constant among all the contenders for his services.
  4. Probably, but why go to a situation where there are 4 starters for 3 positions if you don't have to?
  5. And the irony is that Boston is one of the last places Teixeira will go unless he sees a guaranteed opportunity to play 150 games there. With strong veterans manning 1B, 3B and DH, that ain't happening. When there's places he could go, be paid just about as much, and be guaranteed not to lose a single game to roster politics, why would he go to a place where might wind up to deal with a 1B/3B/DH rotation? Even if he's the best player of the four, which is debatable, it's still an avoidable hassle that would serve as a tiebreaker between us any any team that meets his price and actually has openings.
  6. The only reason people are so gung-ho about moving Lowell in the first place is because they think that if they do, Mark Teixeira will magically start begging to come to Boston.
  7. Not that Damon's really covering himself with glory with that contract of his either. He's lost all semblance of defense. It's sort of a trade-off. Crisp lost his bat in Cleveland but he's a world-class defender. Damon hits about as well as he ever did but he can't field his position anymore and they had to move him.
  8. Speaking of counting eggs, no one from either front office has even confirmed the Crisp-for-Ramirez trade as far as I know.
  9. You could do worse for 4th OF than Jon van Every.
  10. The Royals had problems last year with their outfield. Jose Guillen didn't live up to expectations and Mark Teahen never really has. My guess is the plan is to move David Dejesus over to left field, platoon Guillen and Teahen in right, and let Crisp take over center. If they do it that way, then the Royals probably got the better of this bargain.
  11. Ramon Ramirez looks like a fine pitcher. If he pitches like he did with the Royals for us that gives us one heck of a bullpen. that, and we pretty much clear Crisp's salary and bring in a quality player. that should help us if we intend to make a splash in the free agent market, such as for AJ Burnett, or picking up the salary of a veteran catcher like VMart or Johjima.
  12. Druther go after Lowe.
  13. Wow. Did the voters actually select the player with the highest VORP in each league? I think I'm in shock.
  14. He might be an interesting gamble on a Brad Penny contract.
  15. Good defensive night for a guy who never plays. This is looking a little more like a championship team now.
  16. Leon instigated that.
  17. THey started Scalabrine to replace Garnett, I can't believe it. Couldn't you at least start Powe?
  18. Talking about re3tiring the number of a 24 year old man is kinda funny but I'm definitely excited to see if Pedroia can take it to the next level.
  19. Can't wait for Pedroia to start talking about this. He's not exactly Spaceman Lee, or even Pap, but he should be good for a quote or two. One thing sure, humility does not come standard with this model.
  20. Looking for a link -- it's all over the media. Congrats Dustin. EDIT: MLB.com link http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081118&content_id=3683215&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  21. I really hope Morneau doesn't win it. He isn't even the best player in the league at his own position, which is why Youks will split the vote.
  22. I'm still doung double-takes at the NHL standings. 4 points out of first seeding. I hope I have time to adjust to that slowly.
