Didn't catch that before. Law Firm. Love it. BJGE is definitely one of the heroes of this injury-deplated Patroits squad.

If it was the Pats, the play would have been to Welker or Faulk, unless The Back So Nice They Named Him Twice gets in there on second down, which is very possible.
  3. Hawks 5-0 on the young season. Looks like there was a reason they were such a tough kill last year.
  4. If the Yankees fail to make the postseason next year, a job will be open that anyone should take.
  5. I think I have to say it's more likely that this is because of the fact that numbers can't smell cancer so they didn't know what's driving the 2 off years he had in '06 and '07.
  6. What are they going to do, trade for an outfielder?
  7. I loathe the term AAAA when applied to non-debuted players. How the heck do we know whether a guy who happens to be 27 years or above in age might not become a perfectly good big leaguer if given a shot? AAAA should be reserved for true tweeners like Shane Costa or David Pauley who do all right in AAA but never manage to do anything when given a look in the big leagues. Not guys like Brown or Bailey who might do fine if they could only be actually given a chance.

  9. It's a mistake to think that because we haven't seen a guy make a big play recently he hasn't been a factor, especially on defense, but Thomas hasn't really shown up for awhile. If the reserve plays OK we should be fine in theory. So here's a question: If we still had Brady, how many of our losses would have been wins? To be honest, I only see one. Before the Colts game, I saw none. The losses to the Phins and the Chargers were both blowout situations because the D didn't show up to work that day. And I'm not sure even about the Colts game. Cassel did not play poorly and Gaffney can drop a Tom Brady pass just as easily as he can drop a Matt Cassel pass. The reason I still call that a game Brady could have won us is the deep threat to Moss might have netted us a TD and given us a buffer.

  11. Bearing in mind that if Salty does flop somehow, Tek becomes the guy.

    Great game by Cassel.
  13. Love to get him if there's a way we can do that without compromising our pitching staff.
  14. Cassel looking great tonight. They're really playing Patriots football.
  15. Your first place Boston Bruins? Nice game by Manny in goal.
  16. Jose Reyes = overrated. Jimmy Rollins IS better on average than Reyes in any given year.
  17. It doesn't work without the bald spot.
  18. No, but he does hit for better average.. Biggio only had 2 seasons where his batting average was better than Pedroia's career rate. Pedroia's nearly, but not quite, Garciaparra good at putting the bat on the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couiple 25-30 HR seasons from Pedroia. You can see where with the right adjustments and a nice career year the laser show could carry over the wall a bit more than it has.
  19. Pedroia is already as good as Biggio was at his peak. The thing that scares me with Pedroia is how young he is. It's hard to imagine him getting better, but the guy's only 24 and could concievably do it.
  20. per NESN. Would have been shocked if they didn't at least explore this. Please get it done, Theo, and lock down as many FA years as you can.
  21. Actually I'll bite. I dunno too much about the market, but I do know that the team traded Andrew Alberts away, so that's the D-man. RIght now we've got Hunwick filling in. And did I hear correctly that Vlad Sobotka is currently in the AHL? As for who we could have signed, no clue, but some pretty good D-men changed hands this offseason.
  22. Nevermind, it's just trendy to suggest that the team is going to head for the celler every time it thrives for a few games, mostly because any negative performance can be used to validate you and make you right. It's the ultimate meaningless statement in sports analysis.
  23. People underestimate Brown incredibly round here. Soxprospects.com says that he's probably a solid big league backup catcher right now and has the talent to earn his way into a starting role. There's a reason I'm fine with a Kottaras-Brown platoon, and not just because I think Kottaras will evolve into a 20-HR big league catcher. Brown is a talented catcher in his own right and is exactly what Boston likes in a catcher with his patience and approach. Half the teams in baseball, Brown would have been up midseason last year. It's possible with our unique catcher situation we're the only team in the majors for whom Brown would not have debuted last year in fact. And even there -- Brown's qualified to handle the knuckler and if something happened to Cash or Tek he's probably the first one up as emergency filler. Give the kid a chance and I bet he'll pleasantly surprise us all. He's certainly got the talent, the only question is will he use his opportunities well enough to stick here, or will he become one of those journeyman backups that flit around the league for awhile until they stick with a situation they can thrive in.
  24. Probably more like the JD Drew.
  25. My point wasn't whether these guys were or were not better than Boyes. My point was that this is a good, balanced, deep offensive hockey club right now and so Boyes would definitely have much less opportunity to thrive here since he isn't The Guy, which means I very much doubt he gets the chances to develop into what he became with St. Louis. Besides, if Boyes was with the club, Blake Wheeler probably wouldn't be since my impression was that keeping hold of him was a last-minute decision. Wheeler's looking like a very talented forward and a great pickup so I'll take him and not worry too much about what might have been with Boyes. Besides, Wideman's doing pretty good, eh?
