  1. At least Kessel attacks the net. He could be smarter about how he does it, but he attacks the net. I don't recall Samsonov being that willing to go right in. I see no reason why Tuuka with sporadic playing time is better for the Bruins than Manny with sporadic playing time.
  2. Loved the aping of Youkilis. Mom took a look at his dance number at the plate and said he should send flowers to the pitcher if he wanted some that badly.
  3. Actually it probably is at least a yellow flag.
  4. No, it isn't., It's stuff like this that makes me glad we didn't kick Wake to the curb first chance we got.
  5. Yeah, agreed -- I really doubt he'll have that much left to prove to us by midseason 2010, and if Lowell falters in the last year of his contract (which is very possible) it seems inevitable that Anderson will get the call.
  6. I'm not going to oppose anything that casts Julio Yugo in a negative light but realistically, I don't see why people are so anxious to bring it up every other thing. It's not like any Sox fans actually vehemently defend Lugo as a good signing. We agree, and we get it. It was a bad deal. The only reason to bring it up is to twist the knife, and while that can be fun, you know what they say about what goes around
  7. no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.
  8. EVERY goalie allows softies. ALL of them. It's not a protuctive post to say he lets in softies. And unless you bring in something that actually demonstrates Thomas lets in materially more soft goals than other elite goaltenders you don't have an argument. And if you want to build an argument on that basis you have to first define a softie in a way that doesn't describe all goals in a league where the average save percentage is around .910.
  9. A massive detriment? No. When and if he pitches for Boston, it's because he has recovered from that surgery. Many athletes have shoulder surgery and are back and all right after a little while. In fact it might even improve his performance if it's something he's needed to get done for awhile but was trying to tough-guy his way through.
  10. Would put a new sparkle into fall ball wouldn't it?
  11. No, why should we comment about the leader in GAA and SV% letting in an uncharacteristic goal? It's pretty much only people who have no minds, and thus cannot change them, that chomp at the bit to criticize Thomas now. I dunno if Brodeur has let in an 80-footer, but he's been made to look stupid on individual goals in the past. Everyone has. This one was just the worst possible time is all.
  12. You're overselling the point, but whatever, it was a bad idea. I've been worshipping the porcelain god all day so think of that as the flu talking. Whoever suggested November probably had a better idea, all that's competing with is the AFL. Until the World Series renamed itself though I don't think too many casual baseball fans are going to regard the WBC as more than a curiosity.
  13. Umm no. How many of the teams in MLB are actually involved in that pennant race and how many are just marking time until the end of the season? I'm not saying it's a good time for the Sox, but for at least 20 other teams it's probably as good as Fall Ball and Winter Ball seasons. I could see teams and players playing in a September tournameny after their team is good and out of the race if they have something left in the tank, and I could also see even contending teams release their prospects if they have a crowded 40-man roster.
  14. September is a pretty good time of year. Minor league season over, teams and players know what they have left and where they are, a lot of players on noncontenders just marking time and collecting checks and team execs wanting a chance to see what that talented rookie behind their veteran can do.
  15. Yes and then he went and adjusted back the other way which is even harder. If you bet against Smoltz's ability to make good sound adjustments you'll lose every time.
  16. Shoulder surgery is pretty serious, but velocity is as much based on mechanics as it is strength. There are any number of pitchers that have had shoulder surgery and came back with no loss in velocity. In fact they sometimes come back even more effective because they spend some time on that marginal, do I tough it out, do I get surgery, fence before they get it. Smoltz' mechanics are fine. The only question is whether his body will allow him to stay on the field long enough to be effective. As long as he isn't throwing 85 MPH he'll be effective.
  17. I'd rather keep the picks.
  18. lol brilliant.
  19. And it's Cro Magnon. Cood name for one of those old detective stories though.
  20. I know, just being a bit of a :harhar: today.
  21. I don't. But it's reasonable for an NFL GM to think so. Including our own, apparently. Besides, a high 2nd isn't that far from what most of us thought he'd get. I wanted a bit more, but I'm always on the optimistic side when it comes to a player on a NEw England team. Or didn't you realize that by now?
  22. So a patoon of Can't Throw, Can't Run, and Can't Hit. Brilliant.
  23. And not only that, but they're gone and replaced by some of the young talent percolating up through the ranks, such as Brown and Kottaras behind Tek, Jones, Bard and Lentz behind Saito, and Buchholz, Bowden, Johnson and possibly Masterson behind Smoltz and Penny.
