  1. Yeah but in the same token, we wouldn't have to face Roy anymore.
  2. Oh, to this add -- it's time to bid a fold farewell to the remnants of 2004. Big Papi and Varitek are no longer what they were and it's time to treat them accordingly. Tek's role needs to be stepped down even if he continues to perform, and Ortiz needs to play out the string and then let some other team waste too much money on some mediocre declining years a la Mo Vaughn.
  3. I don't mind this team making money. It means the team is viable and will continue to spend what it takes to have a strong team. personally I think the team needs a shakeup -- get rid of the last remnants of the 2004 club and assemble a new playoff caliber core. We're still leaning too heavily on Tek and Big Papi and need to replace both players very soon.
  4. The Yankees are into Halladay with or without Wang.
  5. Iunno, 3B? If Lowell goes down for the rest of the year Youks is going to the hot corner and staying there until the offseason. that means both corners are in flux.
  6. Too much up in the air right now and too many roles undefined. If the team is playing uninspired ball, defining roles and helping people to understand where they'll settle into the team can help. With that in mind I see these as our major priorities over the days leading up to the deadline. -- stabilize the middle of the rotation. Determine if a new veteran arm is a luxury or a need. Knowing how to tell the difference is part of what separates a good GM from a bad one. If you need one, don't pull punches in getting the best one you can. -- stabilize the bullpen roles. Right now Bard needs to be the setup man and everyone else needs to have an idea when they're coming in. If you need to change the mix don't be afraid to be aggressive. If you need to buy an upgrade, buy it. If you need to promote a rookie, promote him. -- Stabilize the defense and lineup. Right now our only stable long term positions are 2B and CF. We need a signal from Tito who the starting SS is, or we need a new SS. We also need to know how things are going to play out longterm at corner infield. We could use an answer to the Bay question. Finally, we could use a catcher who can control the running game. -- We probably also could use a middle of the order bat if we can find one that doesn't cost the moon, sky and all the twinkly little stars, which will be somewhat difficult. I consider that the lowest priority because our team has the offense to win ballgames if the team is going right and if it isn't, no one bat is going to save us.
  7. Oh, get over it guys. It's a bad game. Bad games happen. You remember how bad we utterly SUCKED in August of 2007? And those were games we lost to the MFY, not a relatively unimportatn West Coast loser squad.
  8. About as bad as a loss can be, right down to the last minute nature of it and the huge opportunity lost.
  9. Sox deserved to lose this game. What a gutpunch.
  10. Please do it... please do it...
  11. Not a bad guy to have up with the game on the line.
  12. Ellsbury. DO NOT HIT A HOMER! GO TO THE OPPOSITE FIELD!!
  13. Agree here. Single ties the game and bunt eliminates the GIDP.
  14. Umm OK, single, I can deal. Hey Youk, looks like your scenario gets the Green light.
  15. Kottaras, IF YOU ARE EVER GOING TO AMOUNT TO ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE HITE A FREAKING HOME RUN! RIGHT NOW!
  16. We're going to score a run here just because the baseball gods like to tease us.
  17. We did this last year and the year before too. Coasting to the deadline.
  18. And if it wasn't game before, that was game.
  19. Nice arm, Kottaras.
  20. Which will feature Mike Lowell, George Kottaras (or PH) and Nick Green (or PH)
  21. Homestand = 2-2
  22. pretty sure we all saw that coming.
