  1. Can tell you put a lot of thought into that masterpiece.
  2. Unless of course he didn't. Are there kinds of steroids that can be given to a player without their permission or consent? The original story Ortiz prepared for when he got caught was that there was a kind of ingested steroid he might have been force-fed while still in the Dominican camps.
  3. Washington County, Maine, why
  4. I still do the radio thing. It's simple economics for me, $60 bucks a month for a TV plan I'll only use to watch Sox games or $15 a year for Gameday Audio and I can listen to any game I want to.
  5. You want a Dojji type to keep an eye on, here's one of the better ones in the Sox system, AA year old Portland reliever Dustin Richardson. Richardson was a starter last year and started out well but fell apart as the season went on. he maintained good strikeout numbers despite his struggles (114 K's in 104 IP) so clearly the stuff was still good, but Richardson was clearly not going to hack it as a starter. So they moved him to the bullpen for this year, and so far the returns have been good. Richardson has been channeling Dan Bard from last year with his numbers, both the good (about 12 strikeouts per 9 innings) and the bad (5.8bb/9). He's on the older side at 25, and his fastball is more deceptive than it is powerful according to the Soxprospects scouting report, but he seems to harness his stuff well and may have a future as a matchup lefty, especially if he can harness his command juuuuust a bit better. Since the Sox currently have only Oki for lefthanders in their pen, and only Jones and Lopez (and their reverse splits) in Pawtucket, that's a niche Richardson might be the one to fill down the road sometime.
  6. Paps we've already had our RDA of drama for today.
  7. I think all me fighting it would have done is made it catch on faster. There is a certain reason and rhyme to it, "dodgy types, Dojji types."
  8. And then he lobs a slider belt high, middle of the plate. Fattttt pitch.
  9. DID HE JUST THROW THE SPLIT????
  10. 2 walks and an RBI for Ellsbury. This is why OBP is more important than BA.
  11. No Sherrill isn''t that expensive, he makes about 3 mil this year.
  12. Dodgers just traded for George Sherrill. That might take them out of the Halladay race.
  13. of course but I think I've finally figured it out. I mean, most of us know this probably isn't getting done, but where's the harm in a little hope?
  14. Course not, but I can't see even 2 big deals depleting this farm entirely.
  15. I'd say 11 years old for the over/under. Any takers on the over?
  16. In 2010 we'd still have Gonzo and Halladay.
  17. It certainly isn't enhancing his performance.
  18. Taking a look at the roster as it was in 2006, how much of our future would YOU have mortgaged to attempt to stay competitive that year? Rotation shot to heck and what's left not going deep, bullpen absolutely sucking outside of Papelbon, injuries hampering the lineup, no one really stepping up, no minor league depth beyond scrubs and Royals rejects. How many prospects do you spend to try and prop that up? I'm just as happy not having to watch Lester pitch for the Phillies in exchange for Bobby Abreu and Corey Lidle.
  19. Bearing in mind that our upper minors were empty in 2006 and that anything we did at the deadline would cost us Lester. it also wasn't hard to see the writing on the wall in 2006 and to know that we really weren't going to be competitive.
  20. I'd say he's got a nonzero chance of a September callup. He is on a big league deal after all, and he doesn't look like the minors are a mystery to him. Also, Theo doesn't seem to believe that pitchers need a long stay in AAA (remember Masterson had his first big league start before his first Pawtucket start) to develop so if there's a need, he could come along pretty fast.
  21. Believe me, if we get him I'll take my medicine.
  22. Getting Gonzalez would be one of the most pleasant surprises imaginable, especially if they managed to do it without losing Reddick or Bard.
  23. here's hoping Rios makes out like the last big contract salary makeweight we took on to balance out a big trade. That guy did OK for us for a couple years:)
