  1. Lavarnway and Iglesias for Reyes. Let's get it done. They get premium prospects at the two most key positions. That's gotta at least keep the Mets guys on the phone. With Drew, Scutaro and Cameron coming off the books we should have no problem re-signing Reyes and handing player raises both.
  2. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=t533&t=p_pbp&pid=543432 This kid is COOKING. I have no idea what his defense is like at catcher, but with the offensive chops he's demonstrating that's not a huge concern. We could be looking at the heir to Ortiz and this is still worth a glimpse.
  3. I want it in record that I was against the signing of Cameron from day 1. I just wish I hadn't been quite this right. What a waste of money and a roster spot. And of course, Tito being Tito he's gonna play Cameron against lefties, where we're already weak enough because we're so lefthanded. We need to get rid of this guy. Find someone else to give those at bats to. There's got to be some AAA schlub who'd kill for the chance. There's got to be SOMETHING we can do to get this guy off the roster.
  4. Yeah, but Reyes is the only premiere shortstop available for a price Theo might actually remotely contemplate not immediately slamming down the phone and indulging in a 15 minute belly laugh when it's quoted to him.
  5. Hanley Ramirez is the ultimate windmill to tilt at. We've been doing this crap since 06 and I for one am freaking tired of it. They are NOT trading the guy. I think we've established that by now, given the number of opportunities they've had to deal him. They have no need to, one, and two, they're under extra scrutiny every time they do a deal that sheds salary, which would practically force Theo to overpay. It's simply not happening. Reyes is only an option because of special circumstances -- IE the broke owner. Loria isn't broke, just cheap. And he knows that if he deals Hanley, what fragile tiny little threads of attendance he's getting in the first place are just gone. He's not going to do that. So focus on the guy who IS POSSIBLE, not the one that isn't.
  6. We go into more than enough games with a lead to give our pitching-with-a-lead guys all the work they want. You gotta get 'em some days off, and if you're trailing, that's as good a time to do it as any.
  7. Nice first outing kid. Pity the way it ended but that was good enough.
  8. Come and get him Tito.
  9. And look how that worked out. I'm stubborn, but I'm not incapable of learning.
  10. Between Drew's money ($14M less Reddick's/Kalish's rookie deal) and Scutaro's ($5M) we have MORE than enough coming off the books to retain Reyes if we get him, and if Daisuke is done, that should help going towards player raises as well.
  11. Salty's june numbers to date (6/19): .343/.410/.571/.982 3 2B 1 3B 1 HR 5 RBI 175 OPS+ 24% CS (not great, but a non-problem) Not saying necessarily that people need to start eating crow on this guy, but it's danged nice to see him coming around.
  12. When the 9th calls, it's Bard, but you gotta look at that inning by Albers when you decide who to give the ball in the 8th tomorrow.
  13. Hadn't realized how good ALbers' stuff is. Impressiv.
  14. Well that won't happen, Reyes and Beltran is at least in viable pipe dream territory because you can sorta-justify it. The Jays are gonna try like anything to keep Bautista and I haven't heard where they were desparate for cash..
  15. OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!
  16. That map supports my hairbrained notion of ending the league imbalance by expanding the American League into Montreal and Portland.
  17. Boston a combiined shutout between the Sox and Tim Thomas.
  18. Might think about it if Papi starts strugglin, otherwise I don't touch the lineup.
  19. I don't think the little guy's going to have the longevity to get in. He's gonna get hurt too much, just because of the way he throws his body around.
  20. 2 expansion teams in Montreal (AL) and out on the west coast (Vancouver? Portland? Salt Lake?) and we aren't having this conversation AL East: Boston Baltimore TB Montreal NYY AL Central Toronto Detroit Cleveland Chi WS KC Minn West: LAA Texas Oakland Seattle Vancouver/Portland/another Western city It's been about 13 years since our last expansion, I'd say we're about due to look at growing the league again.
  21. I don't know linear weights from shoelaces, but I do know "Crawford hasn't gotten on base as well, stolen as frequently, or avoided running into outs as well as Pedroia has." In a normal year, sure, Crawford should be running circles around Pedroia, but this is not a normal year for CC. At least I hope not given how much the team has invested in him.
  22. You're just saying that because you want him to Damon and sign with the Yankees.
