  1. Oh for... Get some better cleats, Pedey.
  2. Cam you imagine this lineup in a couple years when Moustakas is going, they've replaced Getz with Johnny Giavotella and one of their outfielders maybe with Lorenzo Cain? This Royals team is heading in the right direction if they can get their pitching staff in order. unfortunately at the moment that's a rather sizeable "if."
  3. Disappointing. I thought he had a chance to pull it out of the fire after the early 3 run bomb.
  4. Alas and Alackey has settled down a bit.
  5. Why not? Not like they have a single thing to lose. This is exactly what they should be doing.
  6. Yeah, my Bruce Chen trade scenario isn't looking great right now.
  7. Screw your linguistic tyranny. Which pronoun I use is not your business. I will use the one I feel like, and you can read it if you want to, or not, and that's the end of the relationship between my word choice and you.
  8. Oh he should be sent down for now, definitely. It's clear he's lost whatever was getting him through lineups earlier and he needs to go regain his good habits. But what he shouldn't be is given up on. THis is going to be a work in progress for awhile, maybe years.
  9. And this is why the kid needs defending. Any time the last start and overall numbers are both bad, no positives can possibly be countenanced. He's reached the end of the road, but I was definitely glad he was on staff and we got some decent games out of him before he reverted to form. That won't be remembered unfortunately, and "he sucks" is going to be Miller's epitaph here. Which is a pity because he has, I think, actually shown some progress and development. The Tigers killed this kid, the Marlins finished him, and in the end we couldn't resuscitate him. Pity. But I would try to keep him around in AAA as depth though, just in case he figures it out over the next couple years. Because that is a possibility.
  10. I'm not using UZR. I'm using fielding wins. Quentin has been a negative WAR player each of the prior 2 years to this one, because of the glove.
  11. If all we need is a RH'd bat, call up Lavarnway. He can platoon with Ortiz at DH and make our lineup more righthanded against lefties.
  12. Because that has anything to do with a guy who was in his second year of AAA getting a callup and producing. Don't forget though, we called up Justin Masterson to debut at a time when he had a 4+ ERA in AA in 2008 and a 4+ ERA the prior year in 07, and that worked out OK (ignore the AAA sample, that happened after the debut). Point is, talent has a way of ignoring statistical projections from time to time.
  13. OK, I see the problem here. The problem is that you actually assign any actual credibility to minor league numbers. Their association with big league performance is coincidental most of the time, I assure you.
  14. So you want to bring in a guy who's been a .230-.240 hitter over the last couple years and defends a lot worse than Reddick? Sorry, just trying to grasp the logic here.
  15. Yeah and over the last 2 years. he's averaged about 1.4 wins a year above replacement because his defense is that bad. He's improved all the way to average this year, I'll give him some credit for that, but Reddick is a higher WAR player this year than Quentin despite Quentin having a lot more playing time, so I just don't see a need to even think about Quentin.
  16. Quentin is a butcher defensively who's had delusions of adequacy this year -- in left field. Stick him in right field in Fenway and you're inviting an abject disaster. I don't think we "need" a lot. Our team is pretty complete. There's always room to improve various things but this looks like a deadline where it's better to just make small moves.
  17. You're trying to force a fit simply because you don't trust Reddick. Your emotional status is not worth benching a guy who is getting the job done on both sides of the ball. Reddick should start until he proves he shouldn't.
  18. Or we could just keep Reddick out there, who is playing very well offensively and has no question about his defensive skill, and not screw with it. Reddick's almost as good as Drew defensively, there's no question about his defense. There definitely would be with either Crawford or Quentin. Unless you're bringing in a guy to replace Crawford's bat for the year in light of his bad year so far r, there is literally no point in screwing with the outfield..
  19. Quentin would play right field? Quentin? Would play right field? Ok, what? Wait, wait, ok I get it, I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about CARLOS Quentin, you know, Chicago's absolutely butcherous leftfield defender? My apologies. There must be some other Quentin who's an actual competent defensive outfielder. Because NWIH they'd put Carlos Quentin in Fenway's right field and expect a nondisaster.
  20. Quentin would require benching Crawford. I can't picture that going well. Ubaldo is too rich for Theo's blood. He's young and signed longterm. There's no way Colorado just gives that away, they're looking for an epic haul.
  21. Because they could control Iglesias for more years, which since they're not close to contending is a consideration.
