  1. In other news - Eugenio Suarez is headed back to Seattle.
  2. I’ll just merge it so we don’t have two duplicate threads. the trade is fine I guess. I hope it’s one of multiple trades we’re making, otherwise it seems kind of pointless.
  3. Decent game for Duran to boost his trade value for a rental starter!
  4. He also got hit in the head by a line drive and is getting a CT scan after the game. He got hit by a Lindor line drive in the third and they let him pitch two more innings and didn’t get him checked out till after game? Seems incredibly stupid on Padres part
  5. Something would probably have to be added with Duran to get a legit #2, sure. I just am not sure Cease is worth the risk of losing Duran. He’s having a bad year in a pitchers park and again, is a rental, that is why I don’t like the trade. I get that Salas has value but he isn’t helping the team any time soon and while he is young, his production has not matched his alleged potential at all yet. The other thing with Duran is, you don’t have to move him. Worst case scenario you can just keep him and you have a good outfielder for multiple seasons. It’s not like he is unhappy and demanding a trade and he’s very well liked in the clubhouse. These things tend to work themselves out and im sure the OF problem will be solved in the off season. Right now there is a lot of teams bunched together who aren’t sure if they should buy or sell and the market is very hard to read. If Salas/Cease is the best offer they got - I completely support declining and holding.
  6. It is peanuts when you consider that Cease is a rental having a bad year. It’s a bad offer that can set back the team and isn’t needed at all. It doesn’t help them much this year and it’s doubtful it makes them better in the future considering Duran is cost controlled under team control for 3 more seasons. If Duran is moved, it should be for a #2 starter that is cost controlled. Not a rental with no guarantee is going to re-sign. The padres clearly don’t intend on re-signing Cease so just sign him in the off-season and keep Duran.
  7. Sonny Gray or Kevin Gasuman maybe?
  8. Salas rank is based off his age and “potential” he’s done absolutely nothing on the field to warrant this obsession with him nor does it make sense to trade Jarren Duran for him.
  9. What is the basis of the Salas/Cease trade being some amazing offer? Salas was horrible when healthy this year and has a back issue that’s nagged him all season, he’s been falling in prospect rankings and it’s fair to question whether his original high prospect ranking was premature. Cease is also a rental who is having a down year. Duran is a very good player who is under control and they don’t have to move him. They likely get a better offer if they wait till off season. I don’t get the obsession with HAVING to move him. You don’t need to do anything unless a team overpays or you get a player you are in love with.
  10. Orioles have been picking extremely high for a decade. I’m sure their fans are thrilled with what they watched and the end product!
  11. Obviously, but it’s not something im ever looking at when watching the Sox. The draft is mostly a crapshoot anyway. You really want them to lose to draft a HS kid who could MAYBE make an impact in 4 years?
  12. No. I’m a Washington Wizards fan and they are absolutely horrendous every year and routinely draft busts: it’s a horrible product to watch. The Red Sox can still draft good players while putting out a good product. I don’t want to watch them suck ass and be a joke to maybe get a high draft pick for a HS kid. imagine being a pirates fan and watching one of worst rosters ever and getting the #1 overall pick to be rewarded with… Henry Davis.
  13. There is a lot of people refuting that Salas/Cease offer ever even happened and im not even sure that offer is all that good anyway. Cease is a rental having a down year and Salas is having a horrendous year and is dealing with a back injury. I get he’s really young but he hasn’t shown anything with the bat the past two seasons.
  14. In order to get higher picks you have to be generationally bad with how bad some teams tank. Even if you get #1 pick it’s far from a guarantee the player is a star or even a decent contributor. Since 2000 the #1 overall picks have been extremely hit or miss. A lot of the best players in the league were drafted late first or not even first round at all. Baseball players have an extremely high bust rate and tanking for a high pick isn’t guaranteed to have the impact it does in the NBA or NFL, where one NBA player can turn a franchise around or a star QB can set a team up for a decade. Rooting for that sounds absolutely miserable, but have fun I guess.
  15. Or you can literally keep both. There isn’t a need to trade Duran, unless an offer you can’t pass on comes up.
  16. So you root for the team to lose to get a higher pick in the one major sport where half the first round busts or doesn’t see the majors for years and has almost no immediate impact? That’s insanely dumb.
  17. Very earlier in his career, but he seems like he’s the real deal. His plate discipline is great.
