I'm as happy as anyone that Drew had a grand slam and the boatload of RBI, but it still doesn't negate his dog-crap season. I like Drew. I want him to be greatness incarnate. I seriously think he can become a huge part of Red Sox success. This game will go down in history as one of the great post-season moments in Sox history. It was wonderful. It was clutch (sort of). But I'm sorry if I can't agree that it totally negates the total lack of luster from 162+ games.
And to be totally clear, I don't understand why those who argued for Drew all season get so hostile. What exactly is it that you all expected? For everyone to say, "Well yeah, Drew is playing horrible. He's having the worst season he's ever had. Let's make him captain!" I mean, are we not supposed to be disappointed by bad performance? As fans, don't we get the option of saying, "Yeah, he's doing s*****!", and wishing for A> Performance, and B> Some indication that he's upset about his slump.
Honestly, I did not know about the situations with his wife and child. I have a wife an kids and know what that situation would do to me. It does make a certain amount of difference, I admit. I still don't think that complaining about a season long slump from a $70 million player make someone quite the giant ******* that some people seem to think.
