  1. If Lugo is back is going to keep him out of the line up, I don't foresee a lot of difference. http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/971/jljlaclj2.jpg
  2. According to MLB.com there's no talk of hold outs or anything. He's talking about what he wants in vague comments to the press. He claims to be ready to play regardless of what happens.
  3. I think that we've given Hank the Yank (read fat pompous gelatinous ass-bag) enough of our time, energy, and angst. You can be sure that this is exactly the kind of thing he was hoping for. We now have people launching profanity at each other, and I find myself in the unfamiliar position of agreeing with GOM, not once but twice! We're just wasting our time (no one more than me with my long, windy post yesterday) arguing about this nonsense. Also, I agree with GOM in that I know people who have a "secondary team". I'm one, and my only excuse is that I don't make a conscious decision about who I feel an attachment to where sports teams are concerned. I feel what I feel. That is why I make no apologies for my fan loyalty, whether we're talking about Notre Dame, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Red Sox, or even the Phillies. One last thing. John Henry is a freakin' genius! Hank in RSN! That is classic. I wish I could be there when the packet arrives with the card and such in it!
  4. Are there a lot of Red Sox fans with upwards of 11,000 posts on a Yankee site?
  5. I couldn't wait to get home so I could get here to respond. So, here it is... First of all, I'm tired of having to explain the idea of "Red Sox Nation" to morons like Hank Steinbrenner. I'll do it again though. No one is calling the United States of America "Red Sox Nation" We hold no claims to the country, like the way the Cowboy fans all themselves "America's Team" (and doesn't that just make you want to stick a pen in your own neck?) The term "Red Sox Nation" refers to 1) There are a lot of Red Sox fans across the country, as in the fan base covers more area than most other teams, and 2)This whole collection of fans as a unit, pulling for the Sox. Is that so damn difficult to get? Secondly, as proof of genetic anomalies that are bringing us ever closer to the end of days, I offer you Hank Steinbrenner. What a freakin' twit. Just like his dad?! But who really expected anything else? Did anyone really think that Georgie would have handed the reins to his kids unless they'd proven to be big asses like Pop? I mean, would Yankee fans settle for anything less than maniacal boorishness? Hank also needs to figure out that 50% of the dick-weeds in those Yankee caps are people who have never seen the team play and probably couldn't name more than A-Rod and Jeter if they had a gun put to their heads. Based on that fact, the idea of Yankee fans commenting about the pink hat brigade is pretty hypocritical. One more thing, at the risk of pointing out the obvious. Yankee fans always said that even if the Sox won another World Series that it would only get worse. The Yankees would still be their daddies and the Sox would still be their bitches. The only thing that could have saved this scenario would be going through the Yankees to get that next ring. The icing one the cake? Staging the greatest comeback in sports history while they choked in a way then no other team has ever been able to match. Hank, talk all you want if it helps you get through the night. It doesn't matter all that much, partially because the more you talk, the more you prove my points. But also because if 100 years from now the Yankees have 60 championships, the second thing that will always be mentioned after the word "Yankees" will be "choke", followed by the details of the 2004 ALCS.
  6. I agree totally. For one, as others have mentioned, he's all about retiring that number. Second, he is so not into the press. He's kind of established a stasis with the media in Boston. A move to the Yankers would be about as far from what he likes (media-wise) as one could imagine. I have a funny feeling that Manny is going to have a much more "Manny-esque" year than last year, performance-wise. I think we'll be seeing the sox exercise that option for '09.
  7. I have read news articles here and there about contracts done and undone. Is there one site I can hit that shows the up-to-date contract info?
  8. I know that this is really not on the topic, but I wanted to post this somewhere. I know so many of you here are Patriots fans as well as Sox fans. I just wanted to say congrats on a special season. I know that losing this past Sunday was not the way you wanted it to end, but in every way but that game, the Patriots are the best team in the NFL. By the way, this is coming from a fan of the team you won your last Super Bowl against. Now... On to Spring Training!!! GO SOX!!!
  9. I don't care if an athlete is a bit of jerk, as long as he's honest. I'm sick and tired of canned, moronic responses from athletes when the topic of steroids is concerned. Hearing one guy say what some many of us are thinking and what so many athletes are AFRAID to say is great. I agree with Schilling. Oh, yeah... Clemens is a dickhead, too!
  10. This past week, Baseball America posted it's lists of top prospects. Here's how they measure what the Sox have: 1. Clay Buchholz, rhp 2. Jacoby Ellsbury, of 3. Lars Anderson, 1b 4. Justin Masterson, rhp 5. Jed Lowrie, ss 6. Ryan Kalish, of 7. Michael Bowden, rhp 8. Nick Hagadone, lhp 9. Oscar Tejeda, ss 10. Josh Reddick, of I was a little surprised that Buchholz was above the somewhat more proven Ellsbury, but I suppose the pitcher gets the extra push. Thoughts?
  11. First, this isn't my theory, it belongs to Gammons. When I heard Gammons, I took it not in terms of Beckett asking to restructure. I was thinking about the idea that if the Sox sink into a 5 year $130 million deal with Santana, there almost surely wouldn't be room for two $100 million dollar pitchers. Are we then assuming that the Sox would be willing to already exclude the possibility of resigning Beckett for the money he will most likely deserve, once the current contract ends?
  12. I don't like it. First, you have to assume that the voting is not already a popularity contest in the minds of some writers. (As in, not voting for so-and-so because he's an ass to the writers.) Secondly, in a world where atheletes are paid far better than they should be (as compared to, say, the folks trying to cure cancer or the folks fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan) I really like the idea of bonuses being tied to performance. That's the way the world works. You're a salesman, you sell over your projections, you get a bonus. Perhaps it would be more fair to base it on something more concrete like innings, strike outs, wins, etc. I don't think the BWAA should even consider contracts or money at all when eligibility or voting is concerned.
  13. Yeah! Enjoy, and post some photos when you're done.
  14. I can't help but think that last year might have been an abberation. I think there is a distinct chance that gagne would do better, but I beleive th real issue is he wants to be a closer. I don't think he'll accept arb.
  15. Care to elaborate?
  16. Peter Gammons was on MLB Home Plate (XM 175) a few minutes ago talking about Santana and Beckett. His theory being with Santana being 1 and 4 in the post season and Beckett being undefeated, that chucking out a 5 year $120 million deal to Santana could (and according to Gammons, justifiably should) piss off Beckett. Beckett has played for two teams and those two teams have never lost a playoff series with him as their #1 starter.
  17. http://philsox.spieles.com/images/jsantana_soxcap.jpg I hope Theo knows what he's doing. Let's get this thing done.
  18. Marshmallow. End of discussion.
  19. I would do the Clay Buchholz, Coco Crisp and Jed Lowrie deal, but no way should we part with Jacoby. And certainly not Youkilis!
  20. I'm not sure what to say. :wtf:
  21. Ok, so now it looks like we might have missed both... http://www.nypost.com/seven/11152007/sports/yankees/lowell_is_still_on_the_radar_499660.htm So now what?
  22. Hey Jayhawk Bill: I've been reading your posts, especially those in the The Beckett Deal Revisited (or is it The Ramirez Deal?) thread. I have just one question. How are things at NASA?
