  1. They came back after being down 7-1 - reason enough.
  2. Agreed - he should not be benched for the reasons we discussed before. I do think that we should trade him if someone gives us the right/younger package because Ortiz IMO is certainly on a decline phase. From my past experience - Theo will not hesitate to pull the trigger to replace an aging slugger.
  3. I know that as well as I know the Yankess missed out on him as well. The point was - we hurt because Tito is more loyal to the individual players than the team and the fans. Let me know if you think otherwise.
  4. If Tito can play Belhorne every day in 2005 - he will never sit out Ortiz. He also made sure he does not hurt the feelings of Hinske in 2006 by sitting him - if not for that we would probably still had Carlos Pena as a Red Sox and won't have to sign Lowell or try to sign Tex in the off-season. I believe we are seeing a situation similar to Mo Vaugn - and we should trade him if we get the right return. But in order to sell him high - he needs to be playing every day and produce. So - you are right either way Carter will not see much playing time barring injuries.
  5. Why not get Carter some bats and see how that works out? I wonder what else that kid has got to do to get into a line-up.
  6. I hope Ortiz can pick it up from here - we need him desperately.
  7. Bay Manny's time was up in Boston. But comparing him to Bay is not fair even to Bay. Manny might be the best right-handed hitter of our generation along with A-Rod and Pujols when all set and done.
  8. I am not sure since we have also lost Manny. He can still be a good player - but how would you account for that lost production? It is not like you have improved other offensive positions. To make it worse - the other teams in the division have improved their offense.
  9. Dude - let me ask you something. Do you think he can repeat 2003-2007? Please say yes or no.
  10. You are right - that alone will not have fixed it but that and getting a good catcher would have been a start. The first step to get a solution is to recognize that there is a problem - I think The Red Sox have recognized it a little too late. They do have the money and resources to fix it - but the problems are too big to fix it on the fly and get to the playoffs this year. Again - the Yankees and even Tampa have improved while we have not - and that might be a problem at least in short term.
  11. This team is better than 2006 team overall - when the pitching was a huge issue. Unfortunately - Tampa Rays were the designated last place team that year - they are probably favourite to win the division now.
  12. Glad we finally agreed. Edit - They were not good last year either. They got career years from D-Ped, Youk etc. that might have masked the need to make an upgrade and FO has missed that part.
  13. TheKilo - did you not kill me for saying the same thing in the other thread. I just want to know if you changed your mind since.
  14. In terms of what is expected of him - he will never match it - though he will be a decent bat going forward. Everyone thought it was the injury last year - but he is healthy now. He was the best in his prime and his contributions will be cherished by the fans forever. For now - we should try to get Chris Carter some bats at DH.
  15. Good decision - bad execution.
  16. I was not excited at all about Lowell signing unlike most fans. But that might have been the best alternative after it was clear we will not get A-Rod. The injury is unfortunate but it would have been a shocker anyway if he could ever reproduce 2007.
  17. Don't you think Abreu >> Rocco and may be > Drew if Drew is not playing(which happens often)..
  18. ORS - I get to my conclusions from observation and intution - so I am probably a casual fan. We still have some of them in the site(VA Sox Fan comes to mind). Not that there is anything wrong with statistics - I enjoy all those posts..
  19. This is a Red Sox forum - what do you expect? YES message board is way more biased and rhetorical. Gnerally I respect the posters here most of them at least backs up their views with rational and statistics.
  20. As I was reading the responses - I think some posters thought I have the opinion that the Red Sox should score 6 runs consistently. That's not what I meant - I was trying to say that they will consistently find it very hard to score 6 runs when they need it to secure a win. In fact though it is very early - they are 0-3 when they needed to score 6 runs to get a win and 0-4 in terms of scoring 6 runs in a game. I applogize if this came out the wrong way. ORS - I saw the stats - I think the Yankee line-up is better because they do not have as many question marks as the Sox line-up has. I think they under-performed last year in terms of offense and they will pick-up a notch this year.
