  1. How the hell is Ortiz an 8 seed? I know he's not as "now" as Brady for obvious reasons, but an 8 seed? I was all worked up over this, then I remembered its some fabricated contest that represents everything I hate about ESPN. Also I'd like to nominate myself as the most now person on this board.
  2. Cora's pinch running. C'mon Manny.
  3. Go ahead run on first, Papi at the plate.
  4. Tying run in scoring position.
  5. Lugo with the leadoff single. Now that WAS Youk-esque (unlike pretty much everything else he's done).
  6. I don't think. On the regular all-star voting its maximum 25 votes. But I've definitely voted Oki in more than 25 times. So if there's a limit, its higher than 25. Who are you guys voting for in the NL?
  7. I agree about foreigners. For every Nowitzki, Gasol, or Parker, there's 10 Tskitishvili's.
  8. Ray Allen is better than anyone the Celtics would have gotten at 5. Is the trade official yet?
  9. No. They'd either trade for a starter, or do what they did last year and use free agents and minor leaguers (Gabbard, Hansack, Pauley, etc.) Let's hope it doesn't come to this.
  10. I agree with you. They're facing completely new hitters (or new pitchers for position players), not to mention all the cultural changes and stuff off the field they have to face. Certainly not what some kid coming up from the minors has to face. Another interesting debate on the transition from Japan to America: I remember last year, before he hurt his wrist and missed a lot of time, people were saying how it was concievable that Hideki Matsui could break Ripken's consecutive games streak, that is if you counted the consecutive game streak he had going when he left Japan. (I don't remember how close he was. I don't think it was imminent. Probably a few years away, if he had stayed healthy). Anyway, while I think that Japanese players should be eligible for Rookie of the Year Honors, I don't think their stats should carry over from Japan to MLB in terms of record breaking. What do you guys think?
  11. Maybe it's because I don't watch much N.L. baseball, since I'm usually watching the Red Sox or Yankees, but when I do, I hate having what is pretty much an automatic out every couple innings. I can see why some people like the strategic aspect of having no DH, but, personally, I watch baseball for the talent, not the strategy. If I want strategy, I'll watch chess. I agree with ORS about how both leagues need to have the same rules. The road team in the World Series is at a distinct disadvantage, playing with rules they only have to play by for a few weeks of the year in June. (Actually it's probably harder for an A.L. team to remove a player from their lineup than it is for an N.L. team to have a bench player go up and hit.) I remember reading some writer a few years ago saying it would be like if in the NBA, the Western Conference played without a 3-point line, and the East did. Then in the NBA Finals, the Eastern team would have to adjust to not having a three point line, and vice versa for the Western team. That wouldn't make sense. So I don't like how teams in the World Series have to adjust to having an extra player or removing an extra player from their lineup.
  12. Dice-K has his first 1-2-3 inning of the day. Looking solid so far.
  13. Getting me excited that I wouldn't have to listen to McCarver since I assumed he'd be working w/Joe Buck, then forcing me to listen to McCarver.
  14. No kidding. I was all excited when the game came on and the voice I heard wasn't Joe Buck's. Then it turned out that McCarver and Buck weren't working together this week. That was cruel.
  15. I'm probably staying here. Either IU or Ball State, though I'm leaning towards Ball State since they have the one of the best communications programs in the state. Also, I'll probably join talkpats once the season gets a bit closer.
  16. Hey everyone, I've actually been reading this site off and on since sometime during the 2005 season. Not sure why it took me so long to join. Hopefully I'll actually post rather than just read. There's really no one here to talk about the Red Sox with, since not many people care for baseball, and those who do are all Cubs or Reds fans. Anyway, I'll be a senior in high school here in Indianapolis (you may have heard of our professional football team ) and I watch the Red Sox just about every night on Extra Innings. Anything else just ask I guess.
