  1. http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20070415/hl_hsn/ondeckashowdownovermetalbats What do you guys think? Wood all around or metal should stay? Personally I think wood. Simply because it just takes more life out of true baseball. I can't stand the sound of a ball hitting the metal, and I've never found a good metal bat that works for me. Give me a real baseball bat anyday. As far as safety wise, that 18 year old pitcher took the risk every time he stepped onto the mound. No one can predict where a ball is gonna go. Especially if not hit correctly. Accidents happen and you shouldn't blame the manufacturer. Now if this started happening all across the U.S. and many metal bats started causing fatalities, then yeah, take them out of the sport. But as of right now there's no true safety hazard other than the people who use the bats.
  2. Not really. Ideal doesn't mean the best. The definition of ideal is "principle or value that one actively pursues as a goal" We were pursuing our view of a valued pitcher. Which means it didn't have to be the best. My ideal pitcher was that combination. Do I think it's the best? Of course not. But it was still my opinion on an ideal pitcher. Now please let's stay on topic.
  3. I got bored so I decided to see who you would think make the best pitching staff? Assume you have five starters, three reliefs, and two closers. They don't have to be in order of greatness, just list them. This is mine. Starting Pitchers 1. Sandy Koufax 2. Cy Young 3. Roger Clemens 4. Nolan Ryan 5. Bob Feller Relief Pitchers 1. Mariano Rivera 2. Orel Hershiser 3. Jim Kaat Closing Pitchers 1. Rollie Fingers 2. Dennis Eckersley
  4. Wasn't he suppose to get the can after last season?
  5. In a way it's good. Because now whenever he gets out their to pitch, he can have some sort of motivation, he can pitch for his grandparents, like a little dedication to them. It is sad to lose family in such a manner however. My father lost both his parents just within a year apart and both from the same causes, heart attack.
  6. Funny but it better never really happen.
  7. It'll be a rude awakening for Dice K in the major leagues. But I think he'll do fine against the Yanks. All he has to do is stay ahead in the counts, keep his composure, and he's gonna dominate.
  8. So then why are the Yankees still a club? Just playin'. But I do agree with you. Dice K will most likely dominate the first game, but after reviewing his moves and pitches, the Yanks will be able to predict better in what he's gonna do so that way during the next game they could try and get more hits off him. However, depending on HOW well he does the first time could make me reconsider because for all we know he could win both games with who knows how many Ks. Even if it is the Yankees he could still dominate.
  9. What's the deal with Lester? I haven't been able to find any updates on him.
  10. Oh it is indeed. When I go Friday I'll take some pics outside and inside the stadium.
  11. Just thought Id share a little info with the AAA team we have down here. The Zephyrs have been in New Orleans (Metairie), Louisiana since 1993. Last season they were affiliated with the Washington Nationals and are now with the New York Mets and are a member of the Pacific Coast League. The name of the field is Zephyr Stadium, and strangely our mascot is a nutria named Boudreaux. http://www.stjohnsheriff.org/News/Dept/nwzeph05.jpg For being a AAA team, the Zephyrs have a very nice field, you can see it here. http://www.baseballroadtrip.net/AAA/PacificCoast/neworleans/images/PICT0065.jpg Currently, the only title they have is the 1998 Leauge Title. But that doesn't stop fans from coming. Depending on the weather as many as 1,200-1,500 people are in attendance, which for AAA I'd assume is well. Opening Day for the Zephyrs is this Friday when they play against the Nashville Sounds. I plan to go and will be taking pictures for everyone here to see just what a great place Zephyr Field is. Also, it will be the 10 year anniversary of Zephyr Field. I was there when it was first opened when the Zephyrs played their first game there on April 11, 1997. It also served as a staging area for FEMA and the Nationa Guard during Hurricane Katrina. Now on to the players. Naturally most are people you've never heard of, or probably ever will hear of. But none the less, baseball is baseball. Pitchers Blake McGinley Willie Collazo Ivan Maldonado Clint Nageotte Lino Urdaneta Steve Schmoll Jose Santiago Adam Bostick Jason Vargas Jorge Sosa Chan Ho Park Jon Adkins Philip Humber Catchers Mike DiFelice Sandy Alomar Robinson Cancel Infielders Andy Tracy Fernando Tatis Anderson Hernandez Ruben Gotay Jason Alfaro Outfielders Chip Ambres Ben Johnson Ricky Ledee Jesus Feliciano Carlos Gomez I also plan to get Sandy Alomar, Jr to autograph a ball for me since he's been in the majors. Well, that's the 2007 New Orleans Zephyrs. Hope you enjoyed the info.
  12. Apparently Dice K wasn't so hot tonight so I was told.
  13. Coming in late on this thread, I still have to say Dice K is gonna be with Boston for a long time. So long as Epstein doesn't get the $$ in his eyes. But 10Ks in 7 innings for his MLB debut is purely amazing. Sure he's played in the Japanese leagues but still. For a rookie to the American baseball fashion, he's proved himself worthy enough already. Believe it or not, I thought he was gonna be cursed since he's wearing 18 (Johnny "Sellout" Damon's old number). But I guess the luck stayed with the number. Or Dice K is just that good. Ha.
  14. I run to the store for 15 minutes and Tito got tossed?
  15. Goddamn Beckett is on the ball today!
  16. He truely is acting like a Captain in this game. He's hitting good and no doubt helping Beckett with the calls.
  17. Not to mention Beckett's beast mode pitching.
  18. Full count to Tek and he DOUBLES for Hinske to score!
  19. No surprise from Lowell... Ortiz scores, 12-1
  20. Good point. Guess it gives J.D. and Manny rest for tomorrow's game.
