  1. Wade Phillips is gone and so is Marty. Does Alex Spanos believe that someone else can do better than what Marty has done the last three years?
  2. What a joke. There are question marks in the Sox rotation, just as there are with everyone else's. It's the Matsuzaka hype that's influenced Kurkjian's opinion.
  3. Check that. I meant EIGHT WS rings (I forgot the one he won as manager of the 1966 Orioles)
  4. One of only two men to manage the A's in KC and Oakland AND he also retired with seven WS rings. RIP.
  5. 2-0 USA. Conrad scored his first-ever goal as an international and Donovan had a hand in both goals. And the Mexicans were throwing stuff onto the pitch, apparently.
  6. In his first two career appearances, Broxton struck out Albert Pujols twice. That's one hell of a debut.
  7. Broxton was called up in May of 2005. Kemp had 7 HR in 40 AB before his power numbers dropped off significantly.
  8. That's why I added the NL part. There's not enough time to pass judgment on Theodore Lerner as Nats owner, but MLB was pretty s***** in dealing with the ExpoNationals.
  9. I'd say Luis Gonzalez, but it's only a one-year deal.
  10. Marquis' WHIP is still s***, and the number of HR's allowed was the worst in 2006 and it's gone up since he was traded for Drew. His K's have gone down and he gives up almost a hit per inning. He is still not an upgrade.
  11. The Monforts are the worst owners in the NL and possibly all of MLB.
  12. Let me get this straight. Wolf won't help the Dodgers, but Marquis will help the Cubs? His ERA was 6.02 over a full season and he didn't win a game at all after August. Fuzzy logic, indeed.
  13. Reds are not bad? LA season-swept them last year. The Cubs? We're talking about 2006, not what you think the future will hold for them.
  14. 88-74 was enough to make the playoffs, and even then, the Dodgers finished three games ahead of the Phillies. The difference between the AL and NL isn't as big as people would like it to be.
  15. So were the Senators. Then they moved to Minnesota and won three pennants and two WS.
  16. People have been killed on the West Coat during the LA/SF rivalry. The reason it doesn't get as much press as BOS/NY is that whenever one team is good, the other plays horribly. And it's been 45 years since they played in the postseason (I consider the 3-game playoff in 1962 part of the postseason). But they've had their fair share of knocking each other out of the postseason a bunch of times (2004, 1997, 1993, 1982, 1962, 1951, etc.), and it's a lot more even.
  17. Who's "you're"? If you're lumping me with all the DB guys, you're sadly mistaken.
  18. Isn't Helton under contract for the next five seasons?
  19. And the Colorado Rockies could win the AL East. It's all hypothetical, anyway.
  20. Why not? It's basically LA vs SD, a two-team race. Sort of what the AL East was seven of the last eight years. And if Arizona's prospects pan out entirely, they might also be a factor in the division. Colorado and SF will be fighting for last place. And yes, an argument can be made that Dodgers/Giants is just as big as Red Sox/Yankees.
