  1. Ya I get what you guys are saying about not knowing when a #1 will be available. Part of me is glad the team is pushing to contend this season. part of me wishes the Sox would have done that Package for Lester(if it was offered that way, I think Friedman just worked KC so maybe the Sox wouldn't have got as much?). If they punted on this season or filled the rotation with stop gap one year guys, next season they would have had a major pipeline of Arms at the cusp of being ready. Barnes, De le Rosa, Webster, Workman, Odorizzi(KC MiLB P of the year), and Montgomery(top 30 prospect in baseball) plus Will Myers in the OF.
  2. I said #4 with possible upside to maybe #2 if everything clicks. While it's not the AL East he pitches in a hitters park and has done a good job. He's not going to be an ace. But those guys aren't available. Besides he's 26. He is entering his prime. I think it's foolish to give up on someone at his age and skill level. Ya he's an injury worry. But who's to say last season wasn't his breakthrough year? It's worth a shot. edit: He has similar numbers to McCarthy who a lot of people would have been ok with him going to the Sox.
  3. I wouldn't rush him. If he's not 100% he shouldn't be asked to help NY. It could help in the long run. Plus if he's in the minors all year it won't add to his service time right?
  4. With Victorino on the team for 3 years it's more conceivable that they could move Bradley. it didn't make alot of sense with Ellsbury getting ready to walk and Bradley being 1-2 years before he's most likely truly ready. Bogaerts and Barnes are the only untouchables in my book right now. And I could be convinced on Barnes in a deal for an young ace type. But I'd really like to see him come up on the Sox. Bogaerts is an absolute no for me unless it's Stanton, Trout, Harper coming back. And that ain't happening. I have high hopes for him. I think he might be the next Hanley but possibly better. I think he's more athletic and has a way better attitude.
  5. Ya I would imagine we are going to start seeing a rush of action. Floyd is still a trade candidate. Mets want a Kings ransom for Dickey which I think is laughable, so pass. Nieves doesn't work either. Bailey could be trade bait. Cincy wants a leadoff CF. If the Sox can secure another COF then Ellsbury to Cincy for one year of Bailey(I think hes probably a #4 in the AL East right now, but could be a #2 if he adjusts well) + maybe a prospect(Ells has 30 HR potential easy in that bandbox in Cincy)would make sense. Lester Buchholz Floyd Bailey Doubront Lackey, Morales I think that rotation although with some ? would have enough promise to get the Sox started next season. Also it doesn't clog anything long term if some of those guys don't work out, doesn't cost any of the major prospects. Also if for some reason things go south before the TDL any one of those SP would have some value in trades. So they could restock again with some prospects and focus on 2014. I like these moves cause it allows them to go many different directions depending on how the team is doing.
  6. Great now we have to watch Myers tear it up in the AL East firsthand... Other then that it looks like a great trade for TB. They won't miss a beat with all their SP depth and added a huge piece to the middle of the order that makes peanuts. KC's end is not bad but Shields is not a #1 and they had to give up the best hitting prospect in baseball + to get him. That dooms all hope of the Red Sox trading for some front line guy IMO. They won't be willing to give up the prospects it's going to cost. There best hope is going to be trading Saly now and maybe Ells at some point. There are still a few one year guys I think could fit too, Marcum, Hernandez, some others maybe.
  7. Because Farrell is likely to have a big part in the pitching program and be very hands on wth the SP. He needed a PC that was not going to be against it. Nieves has a good reputation around the league and I would guess is not against following Farrells plan.
  8. AZ wants a SS, so the Sox are going to have to get some other team involved of they want Upton and/or Bauer.
  9. But they aintz gotz to know aboutz it!! lol
  10. This was my ubber spectacular multi team deal I dreamed up this morning,
  11. Dodgers just signed Ryu as well. Seems they have a glut of SP. Any interest in Billinglsey?
  12. The Core of Kemp, Eithier, Crawford, Gonzalez, League, Kershaw are all there long term. But Beckett, Hanley, Lilly, Harang, Billingsly, and a few others are all off the books within the next 2 seasons. They might be over for a couple years. But I think they will get back under(LT should be bumped up over the next couple seasons too).
  13. Well if the heat gets to be too much in LA he can leave in 3 years,
  14. This has to be kind of weird as a Yankee fan right? I mean I'm 30, so for most of my life it's been an absurd thought that someone could outspend the Yanks. Maybe not you, but I'm sure part of the fan base is going through an identity crisis
  15. Going into last season Beckett was a mid rotation guy with chance of being a front end guy. Similar situations to Lester and Buchholz this season.
  16. It's over by 200M now, I just did a quick count and hit 200M when got to Nick Punto's salary. Byt that was just this years amounts, not sure what the payroll is when having to use the AAV of deals.
  17. When was the last time a team had a higher payroll then the Yankees? edit: Baltimore 1997 lol
  18. ex1 I agree they should try and make a play for Bauer. Hmmm my creative juices are flowing(this proposal is for fun) Red Sox get Upton and Bauer Seattle gets Ellsbury and Masterson + lower prospect AZ gets Asdrubel, Smoak and 1 SP prospect(From Red Sox, Barnes/Webster/Workman)+ Brentz Cleveland gets Hultzen from Seattle, Cecchini and Kalish from Sox and Wade Davis(lower Rays SP) TB gets Choo + 1 mid tier prospect from Cleveland(Maybe even Perez for the BP)
  19. 6/147M: a $12M signing bonus with a $17MM salary in 2013, $24MM in 2014, $23MM in 2015, $24MM in 2016, $23MM in 2017, and $24MM in 2018. People who thought he wouldn't get Cain-Hammels money were crazy. I believe this is higher AAV then CC's deal. Deals IMO are starting to look more like NFL deals. Short in years and big signing bonuses. For some reason it seems I don't remember baseball players typically getting these big signing bonuses? I could be wrong.
  20. Ok, I was close
  21. Nothing official yet, but it looks like it could happen. If it does I'm guessing it's 6/150 with maybe a 20M option. It's going to be absurd lol Almost guarantees Hamilton goes back to Texas.
  22. FA log jam is fixin to come loose. Hamilton will go back to Texas and they will trade for a SP if Grienke signs with LA. This could end Hamilton possibilities.
  23. Jackson at 2/24M might. I don't think they want to glut the rotation up on 2nd tier pitchers on long term contracts. Sanchez unless he signs for something like 4/60M doesn't make sense in the long run.
  24. hmmm didn't realize it was only 6M. Upton would seem more likely then. I think Grienke is a near lock. Seems Texas blew him away and it seems a very good match for Grienke. If they do get Upton Olt is going somewhere. So worrying about where to fit him in won't be an issue. Kinsler move to 1B is interesting. But I can see them letting Profar marinate at AAA keeping Kinsler at 2B and letting Andrus play the season out at SS.
