  1. I'm going to throw the "jacksonian" on all these guys. Montero, Romine, Banuelos have not played above A+. Let's see, Jackson's power disappeared against AAA pitching. I'd reserve the 5-tool status until he grows some man muscle and shows consistent power. But considering where he's going to be playing, he might put up decent HR numbers. McAllister will probably get hurt running the bases. jacksonian = (idiomatic) A person who takes the fun out of a situation or activity, as by pessimism, demands, dullness, etc. or see "Wet Blanket".
  2. I can see an argument for that. Given his current contract he might very well cost less in prospects then say AG or Felix. It's really up to Detroits finances though. Do they need to cut payroll now?Or can it wait until the end of next season when some big contracts are due to come off the books? Do they need to cut back a little? Or are we talking fire sale! Everything must go! They could just buy out Maggs (cots has it at 3M buyout). They save 15M right there. That and if they move Granderson like it's being reported they trying to do(I think the Yankees are #1 for that trade IMO, but that's another topic), they might not have to move Miggy to save money. And if that's the case they will need to be blown away to trade him, so not sure if it would happen then. One thing is for sure though. They better earmark dome coin to sign up Verlander long term. if he hits the open market, there looking at CC type money. Detroit has some interesting decisions this off season really.
  3. I like Miggy as a player and wouldn't mind him on the Sox. I'm not sure he is the FO "cup of tea" though. But I guess anything is possible if they get desperate.
  4. Good. He deserved it.
  5. This has been discussed in the " Hot stove" and " thread".
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBOEOSK7FcE Miami is the only other team in the league I believe that has # 23 retired other than the Bulls. But I'm not sure I see Wade and Lebron playing together yet. There both alpha males and neither is the clear "sidekick". That might work better later in there careers. Miami could swap Lebron for Wade, but I think it will be one or the other. I think NY makes sense too, but I don't think it's the only place he could sign. The Nets could be big players( moving to Brooklyn I believe:dunno: not sure when). I don't see the Lakers getting in on him. I know it could happened. But I don't see Lebron playing 2nd fiddle to Kobe. And Kobe is still in his prime, the latter half obviously but he isn't going to want to share the spotlight anytime soon IMO. The Clippers could get in on Lebron. Finally being able to match star power with the Lakers. But they don't have that winning tradition the Lebron seeks. but I would imagine they would be able to put some talent around Lebron. The Celtics have the winning tradition, but not sure about the space $ and roster wise. The Mavericks and Cuban have the money, but not sure Lebron wants to spend his prime years in Texas. Outside of them I don't see anyone else that makes any kind of sense. So Cleveland, NYK, Brooklyn, Boston, Miami, LAL, LAC and Dallas are the only teams I see being in on him. They all have pro's and con's, so it could go either way.
  7. I agree I think he could be moved with out too much trouble. There are a few teams looking for a 3B. Not sure about his value. There going to be some health concerns. But with a full off season I expect he will be back to normal albeit he might only play 130 games. I believe he will need his days off.
  8. I've read Lowrie is going to have to prove himself in AAA. So you can scratch him.
  9. Lowell makes no sense unless Boston is paying his salary or a good portion of it IMO. Papelbon may solve Detroits CL problem for next season, but I doubt they give him top dollar. I guess they could spin Papelbon at the TDL. MDC or Bard makes more sense. There going to want one of Anderson/Rizzo for sure. They might be able to get Kelley but not much else after him. Boston is not going to want to part with him easily. They might be better of going after a Bowden+Reddick instead. Or maybe they do like I suggested and take on Magglio's contract to possibly save on prospects. If that's the case a MDC+Anderson+Pimtel(Bowden) deal could look tempting
  10. Just a random thought. The more I look at the FA market the more I think I'd rather pass the Sox pass on it this season season. Holliday is the only player I'd be interested in giving multiple years. Bay if he would take 3 and maybe an option(very doubtful), I see soemone like SF or St. Louis maybe getting desperate and giving him 5 years. And that's too much IMO. I know way should they give lackey anything close to 5 years. IMO I don't see him aging well. And that could end up being an albatross contract. I think he is much better suited for the senior circuit. There are a few 1 year options that could work in LF. I don't think he should be handed the job, but would like to see what Hermida offers on a constant basis. An obvious back up plan would have to be need though, Dye might not be too bad. SS I think they can fill with out having to hand out a multi year deal. Maybe it would be better to go short term deals and get everything off the books for next off season when there are some true game changers available. Just a thought.
  11. I saw someone mention Boston. Is that even possible with their current roster? I believe Ray Allen is FA after the season, but still. Rondo and Lebron for the next 10 years doesn't seem too bad though lol
  12. Kotchman is an ideal back-up 1B that some other teams may value that the Sox control for then next 2 years. He's getting offered arb.\ The rest of the players are obvious choices.
  13. I know there are some NBA fans on here, and was curious to get everyone's opinion. Who do you think LeBron signs with next year and why? I'm not familiar with the NBA's salary cap and all those mid level exceptions or something, so I'm not even sure if there are multiple teams that can even sign him :dunno: I know it's early in the NBA season, but it's been a hot topic and I thought it make for interesting conversation here.
  14. ^ Co-signed I would rather go with Hermida then to trade valuable prospects for Ichiro.
  15. So maybe we will know if this is going to be a viable target this off season soon.
  16. What if the Sox took on the contract of Magglio? That's close to 40M off next years payroll for Detroit. They could use that lock up Verlander and Jackson long term. Bowden, Kelley, Reddick, MDC, Anderson(or one of the other 1B prospects)+1 + 40M off the books next season, (plus they get rid of Magz 15M 2011 option, and the 126M left on Miggys deal) is pretty tempting I would have to think.
  17. I'm sure Theo is checking in on Uggla if only because it might cost the least to acquire him. Florida practically gave Hermida away. One decent prospect might be enough to get Uggla. That will leaves some bullets left in the gun to fire at some other possible trades.
  18. I'm calling BS on the whole "Sox offering multi yr deal to Matsui", not on you SCM. It makes little to no sense at all. I'd rather they give the starting job to Hermida and see what he does.
