  1. If this is directed at me, I was saying Tejada at 3B not Scutaro.
  2. That's fine. I never said they were a small market team. But with Lee due an extension and I believe Howard needing one within the next couple of years, they could have a lot of money tied up. And if I'm the Phillies and Young could potentially keep me from extending either Lee or Howard, I'm not sure it's worth it.
  3. Translation- JJ's press conference in Boston should be held sometime before the New Year
  4. As unlikely as it may be, I'm still holding out for a trade the brings in a decent SS. Just out of curiosity is Iglesias available to be traded? Not saying they should or anything, just if they get into any discussions for a SS, I was wondering if he could be a piece going the other way.
  5. Texas is trying to compete with LAA. Not funnel them talent. They are also trying to stay ahead of Seattle, not help them catch up. St. Louis may have the $, but they did just trade of a fair amount of prospects for Holliday and DeRosa. But I see your point. The Phillies will be needing that $ to sign Lee. Besides there are a few options in the FA market that would be much cheaper then Young. So there is St. Louis, Sox and the Cubs if they can manage to move Bradley. 3 teams out of 30. 5 if you want to think Texas will send Young within the division. And Again like I previously said, there aren't many teams that can absorb 64M. If anything you only proved my point. Are you just arguing for arguing sake?
  6. I guess we can hope for a "Omar gaff" and he some how manages to not pick up Reyes option...
  7. Selig has had his pro's and con's, but overall hasn't done a bad job. MLB needs to find a "Goddell" type replacement. Someone who is not afraid of modernizing the game so to speak. I'm not talking huge changes, just minor tweakings.
  8. Have you suffered head trauma lately? Scutaro may be the best SS available. But his contract requirements quickly move him down the list. If he will go one year with an option then maybe. But if he wants 3 years like is being said, pass.
  9. I'm not saying they are. There just aren't a lot of teams that can give up a good player and absorb 64M to boot.
  10. SF is going to be so screwed. How long before the Vultures start circling? If this isn't proof of how stupid contracts(Zito, Rowand) can come back to bite you in the ass, I don't know what is lol
  11. Because they would still save 52M. I think Texas is going to have to take some sort of contract back from anyone they trade with. Lowell just seemed like the logical fit with Boston.
  12. He's got 16M annually due to him for the next 4 years. And Texas is in a financial bind. I doubt the prospect cost would be much considering it's a salary dump. Maybe a Lowell+ prospect exchange :dunno: Even if Texas takes on Lowell for one year, they are still saving 52M. Just throwing it out for conversation sake.
  13. Those all make sense. LAA rarely trades prospects, but now might not be a bad time to start for them. Phillies traded a lot of chips to Cleveland for Lee. But if they will part with Happ/Drabek + Toronto could be motivated enough to move him there. LAD have the pieces, but they have a lot of issues at the moment. I really see The Rockies being a dark horse candidates in this. They have enough talent, and Doc lives in Denver in the off season. That could be a motivation for him. Plus the Rockies have shown they can contend in the NL West. They just really lack a #1 SP. I think JJ will be more of a target for the Sox IMO. If the Sox happen to get him, I could see the Yanks trying to counter the move by getting Halladay. Although they did just win the WS, so they might not be as desperate to make such a counter move. The Halladay/JJ talks should get pretty interesting.
  14. Holy s*** RS your here! How the Hell are you? Have you been away or just lurking and not posting much? Nice to see you back. Oh yes I agree 100%. The first thing that the FO should have done was sign Agon. Then they could have looked around for an upgrade. It would have helped there leverage in trade talks, and would have given them a tolerable fall back plan. Overall I really like what Theo and company have done with the Sox. But SS is the absolute and obvious Achilles heel of this regime. They have really just F'd the dog consistently with regards to the position. So far they have dropped the ball te\wice this off season IMO when it comes to SS. 1st with Hardy(considering what it cost to get him in the end, the Red Sox could and should have matched or beat the offer very easily). Now with Agon. I hope they have something in the works, but considering past history I'm not holding my breath
  15. And if Lowrie is unavailable? Remember this was one of the things I said would have to happen. Which of those stud's would you like to see playing everyday? I'm heading of to bed Dipre, I'll get back at you in the A.M.
  16. Listen like I said a lot would have to ultimately go wrong for that situation to arise. I'm not saying it's likely. Just at some point "Iggy"(how is this not an obvious nick name, c'mon man where is the love?) may be the best option available. They have Lowrie, who may at any point re-injure his wrist while rubbing one out. I mean if OC and Tejada sign elsewhere, there is nothing left on the FA market. The huge pile of suck will consist of, Alex Cora Bobby Crosby Adam Everett Khalil Greene Ramon Martinez Everyone knows the Sox need a SS. So I wouldn't expect any favors or friendly deals on the trade market. So if there are no trade candidates, and you have to choose one of the "left overs", are they going to be any worse then what Iglesias could offer? I'm not saying it's the best case scenario.
  17. I think you both should sig your predictions
  18. The one that has Lowrie in AAA(like the team is planning on doing) and Green likely playing for some other club(he doesn't expect to be bat). There's your FA class. Do you see someone I missed that you would rather have playing instead of the kid? I don't. I also don't believe Iggy should be plan A. But once you get past plan D or so, he seems as good or better option then what is left over.
  19. I don't know why everyone is hating on Miggy's abilities at 1B. Player A's 2009 UZR for 2009 was - 3.7(152) Player B's was 2.8(153 games) Player A is touted as a GG type 1B, that was a key Defensive presence in the IF. While player B's defensive is constantly challenged. Not saying it's unwarranted for previous performances, but the player took a big step in the field this year. And should be given credit. I'm just saying, he wouldn't be like sticking Manny or Ortiz at 1B.
  20. I know really. Did anyone see AGON being one of the very 1st FA's to sign? Especially in Toronto?
  21. From what I read, the Sox were planning on offering a 1 year 3M deal. But wanted to wait until later into FA period to officially offer it. Incase another deal became more attractive. Agon not wanting to wait around took Toronto's offer that was similar amd also includes a 2nd year option. Jesus Christ how many times does it need to be repeated that the Sox said Lowrie will be spending the year in AAA to prove he can stay healthy, and to help him catch up on his development that he's missed due to his numerous injuries. With Agon and Vizquel both off the market, I could see the Sox bringing in Tejada, and a slick gloved noodle bat to back him up.
  22. I can agree with that. At the TDL Buchholz being part of the deal may have been more tolerable. Now with the only 1 year for sure + possibly a costly extension, or worse they can't get him signed and he goes elsewhere, is enough to not include Buchholz in any Halladay deal for me personally.
  23. All in all, like I said this isn't an attack on you a700. ORS, Kilo, Dipre, exp1 and many others usually call me out when I get a little out there. Which is fine, I certainly can get carried away. There very good at pointing out views I may not have previously considered, or even thought valid. But when I am presented with something that I can not argue except just out of my own personal opinion/view, I tend to normally at some point acknowledge that fact, and move on and learn from my previous mistakes. In no way am I saying I'm perfect by any means. But I believe by accepting and considering others thought out reasoning's, I have become more knowledgeable of today's game, thus hopefully making myself better poster to the forum. When I first got here I knew nothing about advanced stats, VORP Win share % or whatever. That type of thing wasn't taught or around when I grew up with the game. So I too didn't find them very interesting/important. But eventually I learned these are things to certainly be taken into account when forming opinions on baseball related matters. Really I'm just hoping instead of casting things you may not understand, or don't find important right now under the rug you could at the very least acknowledge that in today's game that these things may be important :dunno: And if in the end you chose to still devalue someone's argument because of what you have witnessed, experienced. Please try not to belittle someone's time and effort by giving them the equivelant of Gom's "Because I watch the games" argument. Again always nice bantering with you a700, eat some turkey for me
