  5. Jackson, Like i said before i haven't seen De leon play, but have seen Almanzar play and the tools are, baseball people who have seen both claim that Almanzar is the better project, as far as the Yankees the talk in the industry is that Cashman isn't too happy with his new International scouting director. I haven't been able to verify this, but there's talk from different sources that the Sox have signed Dominican outfielder Jose Jose. Jose who not only is similar to Sox bonus baby Engel Beltre in his style of playing also looks very similar and spend some in the Red Sox Spring camp in March.
  6. DSL stats (up dated) Sox outfielder Roberto Feliz is leading his division Boca Chica North ) in hitting 344 and its fourth in the DSL fellow Sox outfielder Ronal Bermudez is second on the division and fifth in the DSL. Feliz is also first in division with 11 doubles and second on the DSL, Feliz is second on the division with 3 HR and tied for fifth in the DSL, Feliz is first in the Division with 24 RBi and tied for 4th in the DSL. 7. I do agree that the Sox system has been much improved over the last couple years and deeper, however a prospect list isn't a list of players who may be closer to the Ml, but talent, tools and projection. If you look at the Sox system after Ellsbury, Buchholz, Bowden and Anderson there's a big drop off, there's not one in the system with Almanzar tools, which includes his power projection, like i said earlier he projects as a third baseman and the tool harder for a scout to find is a power right hander hitter who plays a corner position.
  8. More than likely Almanzar will be among the top 10 Red Sox minor league prospects at the end of the season with a chance to be even in the top 5.
  9. It seems like the word LANKY was created for the Sox Dominican RHP prospect Javier Jimenez. The 17 yrs Jimenez is 6-3 and WEIGHTS 143 POUNDS, but that hasn't stop him to be one of the Sox Starters in the DSL in 2007 in his first year as pro and his stats up today is 23 1/3 IP 17 H 13 BB 17 K 1.54 ERA and 205 ave against. Boca Chica North Division standing 1- Dodgers 18W 9L 2- Red Sox 17W 9L 1/2 GB 3- Toronto 14 W 12L 31/2 GB 4- Royals 14W 12L 31/2 GB 5- Giants 8W 17L 9 GB 6- yankees #2 8W 18L 91/2GB
  10. Michael Almanzar is the son of RHP Carlos Almanzar whom the Sox signed in April and has been in rehab from TJ surgery at the Sox minor league camp in FT Myers. A few more names that BA haven't talk about but that will be signed in this International signing period. All of them are Dominicans Daury De la Cruz RHP 6-2 170 FB at 89 Miguel Ferrer RHP 6-2 175 FB at 90 Edward Salcedo SS 6-3 190 R/R 6.8/ speed Carlos Mercedes OF 6-2 180 R/R Average runner
  11. Tuesday the Sox beat the Marlins entry 8-0 and now are 17-9 1/2 game behind division leaders Dodgers in Boca Chica North division. On July 4 The Sox will play against the Dodgers for the division lead at the Dodgers complex. Anataner Batista in the Dominican is known as Pedro Martinez Jr because of his size ( 5' 10" 150) and his stuff is 18 yrs was the Sox starter against the Marlins 5 IP 0 H 0 R 1 BB 9 K, followed by Brandon Ulloa 3 IP 2 H 0 R 0 BB 3 K and finished by Dominican RHP Manuel Jimenez pitching in only his second game 1 IP 2 H 0R 1 BB 0K. 12. Its official the Red Sox signed Dominican shortstop Michael Almanzar Monday night the first day that 16 yrs International prospects could sign a pro contract. Almanza signed for 1.5 million bonus in addition another 1.5 million would be pro rated. Almanzar who is listed as 6'5" projects as a third baseman and would stay at the Sox Dominican academy in El Toro until intructional league opens in September, will come to spring traning in February and will play in the GCL in 2008.
  13. According to BA the Sox have released catcher Levi Tapia. The Sox haven't had much sucess with hitting prospects from the Rocky mountain area. Talking about the early phase of International signing period, Luis Sumoza who was a bonus baby out of Venezuela this time in 2004 and had so-so seasons with VSL in 2005 and with GCL in 2006 its having a good start repeating the GCL in 2007.
  14. Signing 16 yrs pitchers is very risky because of the injury factor and signing them at a high price is a very bad business that's why those big bonus at this time are for position players.
  15. Monday the Sox beat the Tampa bay entry 6-4 and now have a 16-9 record on second place 1 1/2 behind the Dodgers. RHP Stolmy Pimental was the Sox starter and winner 3-0 to lead the team 5 IP 4H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 6 K, followed by Venezuelan RHP Alberto Gonzalez 1 IP 2 H 2 R 0 ER 4 BB 1 K and closed by Edwin Lopez 3 IP 2 H 1 R 1 ER 0 BB 4 K SV (#3 on the season. Tuesday the Sox plays against the Marlins.
  16. According to Braves sources the Atlanta Braves has signed Colombian RHP Julio Teheran.
  17. Jackson; I haven't seen De leon play, but my sources aren't BA and they also compare De Leon to Melky Cabrera and have questions about his bat.
  18. Teheran might be the prospect with the highest ceiling in this group, in addition he's from the same camp that the Sox signed Colombian RHP Randy Consuegra last fall.
  19. According to people in the industry De leon was asking for 1.8 million to sign.
  20. I don't think the sox would have a problem to make to the playoff, but would have one in the playoff and won't go far in it, Tigers Guardians and Angels are a better team than the Sox. in reference to the plan, it won't hold water because it keeps Tek and Tek may be part of the issue.
  21. Well, according to what i have heard De Leon is very similar to the Yankees Melky Cabrera, perhaps not as fast, but with a better arm.
  22. Satturday the sox beat the yankees #2 5-2 to conclude the first 1/3 of the season with a 15-9 record on second place behind the dodgers. Javier Jimenez was the Sox starter 3 IP 1 H 1 R 1 ER 3 BB 4 K, followed by RHp Victor de La Cruz (game winner) 4 IP 4 H 1 R 1 ER 0 BB 1 K and closed by LHP Manuel Rivera SV (#3) 2 IP 1 H 0 R 1 BB 2 K.
