  1. It may not means nothing to you, but its well known in the Industry. Again they're minor league free agents.
  2. Argenis Diaz who is the best defensive short stop in the Red Sox system is leading the Hawaii Winter league in hitting after 9 games with a 438 Ave 32 AB 14 H 4 R 7 RBI, on the other hand RHP Craig Hansen continues with pitching issues and in 2G 2 IP 5 H (2 HR) 3R 3 ER 0 Bb 1 K and a 455 batting average against.
  3. The Angels gave Schillings a false sense of security and the Guardians gave him a reality check point. The Angels where defeated even before the game started against Schillings and the Guardians are far from it. I understand money talks, but Schillings is a proud man and shouldn't need the money, a player should know when to retire and not when he is only a shadow of the player he once was.
  4. While Lowrie is more athletic, I like Pedroia's game better, more than likely Lowrie will be traded.
  5. A second baseman can still make a play even if he doesn't catch the ball clean, a SS in most plays needs to catch the ball clean, specially if they don't have a strong arm, in Lowrie's case his arm is very average.
  6. A short stop needs a better range than a second baseman, also a more secure hands, that's why Lowrie projects as a second baseman, also its well known that Lowrie doesn't have a strong arm.
  7. As long as Craig Shipley stay away from scouting Latin America the Red Sox will do well in scouting and signing in Latin America, but the Sox needs another source of talent to replace Venezuela as this country with Castro wants to be Chavez at the Head its getting harder and harder to find talent. Other organizations has begin to scout Brazil harder but the Red Sox don't even have a scout in that Country. Colombia might the country who some what could replace Venezuela, but in Colombia baseball gets played in the Coast only. The Red Sox hired a new scout to scout Colombia (Santiago Prada) a couple years ago and it begin to pay dividends last Fall when they signed Prospect Randy Consuegra (RHP) earlier this week Prada and Latin America scouting director John Dipuglia went back to Colombia and held a tryout looking for more talent. Mexico could be a source and the Red Sox signed a new scout (Jose Prada) two years ago, but the Red Sox haven't signed a player out of Mexico in more than 5 years, there's also a new scout in Panama (Jaime Pringle) but the Sox haven't signed a player out of Panama since they signed Joseph Guerra (RHP) November of 2003. Nicaragua also has been a source of talent, but also has a DICTATOR and the Sox haven't signed an amateur player from this country since they signed Mario Pena (LHP) in 2002, in 2007 the Red Sox didn't have a scout in Nicaragua, Finally the Red Sox haven't signed a prospect out of Curacao in about 10 years, in 2006 the Sox hired a new scout (Antonio Simon) for this area and it also pay dividends when they signed Prospect Dennis Neuman (RHP) In conclusion the Sox needs to spend more time in this areas as well as in Brazil and even in Honduras if they want to stay at the top of International scouting.
  8. I was Email a few days ago asking me why I had Jed Lowrie ranked as the organization #11 prospect and the reason is this. Lowrie doesn't have soft hands and his hands are erractic and his lack of range and arm strength doesn't compesate for. Lowrie had a very good between Portland and Pawtucket, but his bat is very streaky and none of his ofensive tools are above average. BA has said that Lowrie could play SS at the ML level on a regular basis, but the issue is that BA based his information mainly on league managers and coaches and while they are baseball people they don't follow over all details like a scout would, BA also consults scouts but no more than 2 or 3 of them by league. Baseball scouting is a unique practice and one where there could be multiple scouting reports or opinion in a player, in general the scouting report on Lowrie is that he could be an ideal second hitter in a line up while playing second base, but that he couldn't play SS at the ML level day in day out. In conclusion the Red Sox are going to have to make decision some time in 2008 which way they are going to when it comes to second base. Lowrie while a better athlete than Pedroia isn't the answer over Pedroia and because of it will be traded for a need.
  9. If a player plays from 2002 to 2007 in the minors that will be 6 years of minor league ball, that includes time played after been drafted and signed even if its time played in short scheduled league or the Latin leagues. The group of players that I mentioned above have played minor league ball for six years which would make them 6 years minor league free agents unless they are placed on a 40 man roster or gets resigned. The group of players that you are talking about where in the 40 man roster for 2007, in the Fall the 40 man roster will get set up again and some of those players aren't likely to make the 40 man roster for 2008.
  10. The organization didn't think enough of Hughes or Breslow to call them up in September when they needed bullpen help, they aren't going to think of placing them on the 40 man roster in the fall, both of them are gone.
  11. There's a posibility that Buchholz might be in Pawtucket to start the year, but not Lester, Spring training is the key for Hansen, the organization like Corey very much. Hughes is a six year minor league free agent, he is signing with who ever will give him a chance of making a ML roster, don't see him coming back to Pawtucket.
  12. This is the projection for the 2008 Red Sox minor league rosters. 13. The following Red Sox minor league players will six year minor league free agents if not placed on the 40 man roster this fall or resigns with the Red Sox. Manuel Arambarris 3B * Jeff Bailey 1B John Barnes RHP Craig Breslow LHP Dusty Brown C* Mike Burns RHP Kevin Cash C Bryan Corey RHP # Tony Granadillo 2B* Devern Hansack RHP# Travis Hughes RHP Kyles Jackson RHP* Edgar Martinez RHP# Joe McEwing 2B Salvador Paniagua C* David Pauley RHP# ED Rogers SS Bobby Scales 2B Kyle Snyder RHP Chris Smith RHP Chad Spann 3B* Jose Vaquedano RHP Charles Zink RHP # Should be placed on the 40 man roster * Should be resigned
  14. The Dominican Winter league hold its annual rookie draft a few weeks ago and one of the players drafted was a catcher by the name of Raymundo Tavarez. Tavarez was listed by mistake as a member of the Red Sox organization instead of the Chicago White Sox. As I posted back a few months ago because of economic reasons the Puerto Rican Winter league won't be in operation in 2007. Rotoworld its reporting that OF Sean Danieldson is the player that the Red Sox are receiving from the Cardinalds in the Joel Pineiro trade. Danieldson who is 25 yrs played in AA in 2007.
  15. Like it has been reported on other sources the Hawaii Winter Baseball league started a few days ago and Red Sox prospects RHP Daniel Bard, RHP Jimmy James, SS Argenis Diaz and OF Jason Place are playing for Honolulu. The Arizona Fall league will start soon and Red Sox prospects RHP Craig Hansen, RHP Jose Vaquedano, LHP Hunter Jones, C Dusty Brown, 2B/SS Jed Lowrie and 1B/C Jon Still will be playing for Mesa Solar Sox.
  16. Thank you, I will be around from time to time, I don't know much about Chia-Chu Chen, my connections in the Pacific Rim scoutings is very limeted. The second phase of International players signing is underway and will run to the end of the year. I will have some names of players who the Red Sox have signed in a few weeks.
  17. I got some International signing news to pass along. First of all Dominican Jose Jose who spend a few days in Spring training with the Red Sox hasn't signed with a ML organization, the same can be said about Venezuelan SS Oliver Garcia. The Sox signed a Venezuelan short stop by the name of Joantoni Garcia, but they aren't the same player. The Red Sox have signed recently LHP Israel Perez and middle infielder Luis Uruella (I believe that's how his last name is spelled) they are both Dominicans. Perez who i saw pitch in the 2006's Fall is 6-3 170 Is long with a loose arm, smooth and very fluid mechanics, he throws a heavy fastball and a solid CB with good depth. Besides Almanzar he may be the top prospect signed by the Red Sox in the early phase of the International signig. I don't have a scouting report on Uruella for now.
  18. You're right Otness isn't much of a prospect, Suarez defense its well known, his bat its the key, however he will be 27 yrs early next year, his chances of reaching the ML are slim, it depends what are the Sox plans for Lowrie in 2008, if they keep him as a short stop Suarez will return to Portland if they decided that Lowrie its better as a second baseman ( like i believe he is) Suarez wil be Pawtucket SS in 2008.
  19. There are close to 200 players in the Red Sox system, so this list its actually about 50 % of them.
  20. The Red Sox DSL pitching: Dominican RHP Stomy Pimentel is the top pitching prospect in the DSL. Pimentel a 6-3 186 17 yrs pitched in 14G 13 GS 3-1 and 2.90 ERA. In 62 IP (third best on the team) he allowed 44 H (2 for HR) 22 BB and 60 K (best on the squad) Pimentel pitching in his first year in the DSL had 6 hit batters and will be pitching in the GCL in 2008. The top left handed pitching prospect is 18 yrs Cesar Cabral. Cabral a 6-3 175 Dominican pitched in 14 G all of them as a starter with a 5-4 record and 1.76 ERA (second best on the team) In 66 2/3 IP (tops on the team) allowed 55 H ( 0 HR) 21 BB 58 K (third best on the team) Cabral pitching in his second year in the DSL had 2 hit batters and in 2008 will be pitching in the GCL. Venezuelan RHP Yeiper Castillo is another top pitching propect. Castillo a 6-3 158, 18 yrs pitched in 13G 8 GS with a 2-2 record and 1.83 ERA (third best on the team) in 54 IP he allowed 35 H (0 HR) with 22 BB and 59k (second on the team ) Castillo pitching in his second year in the DSL Hit 6 hitters and will be pitching in the GCL in 2008. Dominican Charlie Rosario was another of the Sox starter. Rosario a 5-10 158 RHP is 18 yrs and pitched in 14 G 12 GS with a 3-3 and 3. 66 ERA in 64 IP (second most on the team) he allowed 54 H ( 2 for HR) with 12 BB (best on team per game) and 56 K (fourth best on the team) Rosario pitching in his first year in the DSL had only 1 HB and should be pitching in the GCL in 2008. Manuel Rivera was one of the 2 Sox closers, Rivera a 6-0 170, 17 yrs Dominican left hander pitched in 20 g all in relief and had 6 saves with a 3-2 record and 1.04 ERA (best on the team) in 34 2/3 IP 24 H ( 0 HR) 17 BB 37 K. Rivera who played in his first year in the DSL finished 16 G and will pitching in the GCL in 2008. The other Sox closer is Dennis Neuman. Neuman who's from Curacao is 5-11 185, 17 yrs right handed pitched in 21 G (tops on the team) all in relief and had 7 saves, and a 1-3 record with a 1.91 ERA (fourth best on the team) in 33 IP 19 H (0 HR) 16 BB and 32 K. Neuman pitching in his first year had 16 games finished and will be pitching in the GCL in 2008. Dominican Brandon Ulloa isn't a closer, but the 6-2 170 18 yrs right handed only pitched in relief in 2007 14 G 2-1 record and a 2.63 ERA in 37 2/3 IP he allowed 30 H (2 HR) with 21 BB and 36 K. Ulloa in his second year in the DSL hit 4 batters and there's a good chance that he will pitch in the GCL in 2008. In the Dominican Anataner Batista is known as little Pedro, as in Pedro Martinez, because of his stuff and his short status (5-10 150) The 18 yrs right handed was having an outstanding year as one of the Sox starter until he got hurt and missed the rest of the year in 6G 5 GS was 3-0 and a 2.19 ERA in 24 2/3 IP he allowed 19 H (0 HR) 8 BB and 32 K. Batista in his second year in the DSL had a 209 batting average against and if healthy could be pitching in the GCL in 2008. Randy Consuegra is the second Colombian in the Red Sox in the system with RHP Jorge Rodriguez who's pitching in Greenville being the other one. Consuegra is a 6-2 170 17 yrs right handed who pitched in 14 G 8 GS with a record 4-2 record and 2.59 ERA in 48 2/3 IP he allowed 39 H (1 HR) with 30 BB and 38 K. Consuegra pitching in his first year in the DSL didn't finished very strong and because of this would only be a 50-50 chance that he would be promoted to the GCL in 2008. Dominican Manuel Jimenez is another reliever. Jimenez who is 5-11 177, RH is 20 yrs pitched in 11 G all as a reliever with a record of 3-0 and a 1.16 ERA and in 23 1/3 IP 13 H (0 HR) 7 BB 19 K. Jimenez didn't pitched as much as the other relievers but because he is 20 yrs and pitched very well should get a promotion to the GCL in 2008. Victor De La Cruz was a starter and a reliever. De La Cruz a 6-0 168, 18 yrs Dominican pitched in 13 G 2 GS and a record 1-3, 3.31 ERA. In 32 1/3 IP 31 ( 0 HR) 27 BB 23 K. De La Cruz will be coming back to the DSL for the third year. Dominican Javier Jimenez was another starter and reliever. Jimenez a 18 yrs RH Dominican pitched in 15 G 7 GS and had a record of 2-4 3.46 ERA, in 39 IP 37 H ( 2 HR) 24 BB 28 K. Jimenez pitching in his first year in the DSL hit 11 Batters (to lead the team) and will be one of the starters for the Sox in the 2008 DSL season. Left Handed Edwin Lopez. Lopez a 6-1 165 19 yrs Dominican pitched in 14 Games all as a reliever and had 3 saves with a record of 0-3, 5.17 (second highest on the team) in 31 1/3 IP 24 H (2 HR) 15BB 28k. Lopez pitched in his third DSL won't return to the organization. Alberto Gonzalez is a 6-2 181, 19 yrs Venezuelan and pitched in 11 G 1 GS with a record of 2-2 4.71 ERA and in 28 2/3 IP 25 H ( 0 HR) 9 BB 20 K. Gonzalez pitching in his first year in the DSL finished 4 games and would return to the DSL in 2008. Dominican Nelson Lastreto is a 6-0 160, 17 yrs LH who pitched in 13 G all in relief and had a record of 2-1 and a 3.27 ERA, in 22 IP 21 H (0 HR) 5 BB 15 K. Lastreto pitching in his first year in the DSL and had 6 games finished. Lastreto could be one of the Sox starters in the DSL for 2008. Venezuelan Ernesto Reyes is a 6-0 190 17yrs (the youngest player in the organization) LH pitched in 5 games all in relief with a record of 2-0 and 5.40 ERA (highest on the team) in 5 IP 1 H (0 HR) 11 BB 4 K. Reyes pitching in his first year in the DSL had a 059 batting average against and will return to the DSL in 2008. Leandro Marin is a 5-11 165 18 yrs RH Venezuelan who pitched in 3 G all in relief with a 0-0 record and a 2.70 ERA in 3 1/3 IP 3 H (0 HR) 2 bb 4 K. Marin has been in the DSL the last years, didn't pitch in 2006 because of health issues and not very much in 2007, but should come back to the DSL in 2008. Dominican RH Juan Ronaldo who is 6-1 170, 17 yrs didn't pitch in 2007 The 2008 Red Sox pitching staff for now its De la Cruz, Gonzalez, perhaps Consuegra, M Jimenez, Lastreto, Reyes, Marin, Ronaldo and the newly signed Dominican Roman Mendez a RHP.
  21. The DSL finished its regular season Friday's the 24th and the Red Sox Sox entry finished with a record of 38-31 and 1 tied in fourth place of its division 10 games behind the division winner Giants. This is how the final stat look like. Catchers; Venezuelan Maykol Sanchez caught the most games with 42G and the 5-11 176 19 yrs in his first year in the DSL hit for a 221 average in 131 AB with only 3 extra base hits all doubles, had 9 RBI, walked 18 times and struck out 23 times. The Right handed hitter also commited one error and should be back in the DSL for 2008. Dominican Derwin Pinto was next in games played with 28G, the 17 yrs who is 5-10 196 also playing in his first year in the DSL and its a right handed hitter hit for a 220 average in 82 AB also had only 3 extra base hits with 2 doubles and a tripple, had 13 RBI and walked 19 and struck out 24 times. Pinto commited 2 errors and would be bacl for the 2008 DSL. Dominican Marcial De La Nieve was the Sox third string catcher and 5-11 185 19 yrs right handed hitter played in 13 games and in 29 AB hit for a 172 average with 2 doubles 5 RBI walked 5 times and struck out 6 times. De La Nieve who played in his second year in the DSL and commited 2 errors in 2007 isn't likely back on the Sox system. Witch means the 2008 Sox's DSL catchers should Sanchez, Pinto and recently signed Venezuelan Jesus Rojas. Infield: Eddie Lora was the Sox first baseman in 2007 and the 6-2 228 Dominican played in 65 games and the 18 yrs who is a awitch hitter and left handed thrower hit for a 222 average in 216 AB with 5 doubles 2 tripples and 4 HR ( third on the team) 28 R 19 RBI walked 48 times (first on the team) but struck out 92 times (also first on the team) stole 4 bases and got caught 3 times. Lora playing in his first year in the DSL commited 6 errors and should be back in DSL for 2008. Wilfred Pichardo was the Sox second baseman in 2007. Pichardo a 17 yrs Dominican is 5-9 146 switch hitter played in 68 games (most on the team) and in 270 AB hit for a 241 average (third best on the team) with 7 doubles and 7 tripples ( tied for first in the league) 0 HR, had 55 runs scored (first in the conference and fifth in the DSL) 14 RBI, walked 37 times (third on team) but struck out 63 times (second on team) stole 33 bases (second on the conference and fourth in the DSL) and got caught stealing 6 times. Pichardo a first year (DSL) player commited 18 errors and its 50-50 if he will be back to DSL in 2008 or get promoted to the GCL) Jackvid Avila was the scheduled back up, but the 18 yrs Venezuelan played all over the infield and outfield and in 24 games. the 6-0 160 right handed hitter hit for a 207 average in 87 AB and 6 doubles as his only extra bases, 8 RBI 4 BB and 19 times struck out, stole 2 bases out of 3 tries. Avila second year player made 3 errors. Its not likely that Avila will return to the organization in 2008. Luis Diaz was the regular short stop, Diaz a 18 yrs Dominican played in 48 G and the 6-0 155 right handed hitter hit for 176 average in 165 AB with 14 (second most of the team) 3 tripples (second most on the team) 0 HR, but only 11 RBI, 13 BB (least among the regulars) struck 48 times, stole 2 bases out of 3 tries. Diaz a second year player in the league commited 20 errors (most on the team) and there's a good chance he could be back for a third year in the DSL in 2008. German Reyes was the back up SS, Reyes a 19 yrs Dominican played in 32 G and 6-1 182 right handed hitter hit for 122 average (second worst on the team) with 2 doubles and 2 HR had 6 RBI in 82 AB, 14 BB and struck out 33 times, also stole 1 base out 3 tries. Reyes a first year player made 19 errors, there is a good chance Reyes wouldn't be back. Nelson Bonilla was the Sox third baseman in 2007. Bonilla a 20 yrs Dominican played in 44 G and 144 AB the 6-4 195 right handed hitter hit for 203 average in 158 AB with 8 doubles and 3 HR with 28 RBI (third most on the team) with 16 bb and struck out 50 times. bonilla a third year player in the league can't come back to the DSL and its not likely that he would be promoted to the GCL, which means the end of his time in the Red Sox system. Pedro Chourio was the back up third baseman when the DSL season started, but in the last quarter of the season was the starter. Chourio 17 yrs Venezuelan was part of the great group that the Red Signed early in the early phase of the 2006 International signing )Beltre, Tejada, Anthony Alvarado and Stolmy Pimentel where the other ones. Chourio a 6-2 211 right handed hitter played in 30 G with a 191 average in 94 AB 4 doubles where his only extra hits, 7 RBI 12 BB and struck out 44 times. Chourio who also made 18 errors will be the only member of the above group who won't be playing in the US and will be returning to the DSL. The 2008 Red Sox infielders should be Chourio, Lora, Diaz, perhaps Pichardo and recently signed Joantoni Garcia and Rafael Espinosa. Garcia a Venezuelan and Espinosaa Dominican both are short stop. Dominican Roberto Feliz was the Sox left fielder/DH for 2007. Feliz a 6-1 180 19 yrs right handed hitter played in 64 G (Fourth most on the eam) in 240 AB (second most on the team) hit for a 304 average (third best in the division) with 13 doubles (third best on the team) 1 tripple and 7 HR (tied for the conference top) his 55 RBI tieds for the DSL tops 35 R (third on the team) 23 BB 50 times struck out and stole 6 bases, but got caught 6 times trying to steal. Feliz in his second year in the DSL made 1 error in the field and would be playing in the GCL in 2008. Juan Bonifacio was the Sox back up left fielder/DH in 2007. Bonifacio a 6-2 168 18 yrs Dominican played in 47 G and hit for a 221 average in 145 AB with 9 doubles, 1 tripple and 5 HR (second most on the team) with 22 RBI 17 BB and struck out 60 times and stole 7 bases out of 10 tries. Bonifacio a right handed hitter in his first year in the DSL made 3 errors. Expect for Bonifacio to have a big year (specially in the power department) in 2008. The most likely MVP in the DSL is the Sox center fielder Ronald Bermudez. Bermudez a 6-0 165 19 yrs right handed hitter played in 65 G won the DSL batting tittle with a 349 average in 229 AB, his 80 base hits where the fifth highest in the DSL, his 19 doubles tied for the DSL best, also had 3 tripples and 3 HR. His 39 RBI where the conference fifth best, 42 BB (second most on the team) and struck out 34 times, with 12 stolen bases and getting caught 9 times. Bermudez playing in his second year in the DSL didn't made a error in 2007 and will be playing in the GCL in 2008. The back up center fielder is perhaps the squad fastest runner and best defense in the outfield. I am talking about Dominican Miguel Meregildo. Mereguildoa 18 yrs 6-0 164 right handed hitter played in 29 G, but had a very dissapointing season with the bat and hit a team worst 121 average in 58 AB with 0 extra base hits, walked 12 times and struck out 22. Meregildo stole 4 bases and got caught 2 times, playing in his second year in the DSL made 4 errors and I would say that his chances of staying in the organization and come back for a third year to the DSL aren't any better than 50-50. Dominican Wilfi Santana was the Sox right fielder.
