  1. Calm down child. Calm down.
  2. Cuddyer is 2 yrs younger than Beltran and considerably more healthy. He also happens to be arguably the best FA OF of a very weak class. He may have to accept a 3 yr deal, but I have a feeling he signs for 4 or more yrs. Beltran seems to be the more likely 3 yr contract, but I have a feeling he isnt the right guy. Lots of injuries and he played really well in a contract yr.
  3. You probably could have had him on the cheap prior to 2011. But he had a hell of a season last yr. He's going to cost a fair amount, especially when teams like Toronto are flush with prospects but arent willing to spend money on the top FA closers
  4. You're what, 12, right? It shows
  5. e1, just do me a favor and look at the other guys on that list for a second. So you are telling me that Youkilis and Swisher are equals? Are you telling me that by those numbers, you'd rather have Brett Gardner than Youkilis?
  6. Dipre is back? Man, I'll tell you, sometimes I think Dutchy is Dipre's evil twin. Same tangents, different extents
  7. The GM meetings isnt typically a place where negotiations are done, it's more of a procedural meet and greet. The winter meetings coming up in a couple weeks is where the flurry will start
  8. e1, you're including 2009 for convenience. He has been on the shelf at seasons end now 2 yrs in a row. Tex and Youk had down productive yrs in 2011, but Tex is on the field with regularity and you cannot say the same for Youk. Also, Tex is a full yr younger and has the better body type. Youk, when healthy, is a great run producer. But at 33, coming off 2 injured yrs in a row and now playing a more rigorous defensive position, you cannot guarantee he stays healthy. That severely limits his value
  9. And it is you. You've used that exact same line before with the exact same quotes
  10. You'd want more for Youkilis? Youk is coming off his second consecutive injured season, will be 33 by the time the season starts, and had a body type that is more equipped for beer drinking than playing 3b full time. Santana will be 29 on opening day, is coming off 3 200IP seasons in the last 4 and is coming off his second best season of his career. If the Angels offered you Santana for Youk straight up, Cherington would accept quicker than you can say "Cherington."
  11. This isnt finalized
  12. I have caught him three times and falsely accused on person (sorry forsyth), I have the same inclinations, but need to see more before I make that leap.
  13. The Nats have been offering big money for 3 yrs now and have only snatched up one marquee FA in Werth. If Cashmoney decides that Wilson is a must get, then we'll get him, it's that simple. Washington has a ways to go before they are legit contenders in the NL East
  14. I think they need to sign a closer type regardless. If they just fill in for the middle of the pen and then Bard flops, then the season is over out the gate. If they bring in a guy like Nathan on a value recoup deal then they can have Nathan handle half and Bard handle the other half of the save situations. That gets Bard eased in and in 2013, possibly has him close full time. If Bard mucks up in his opportunities then they can just move Nathan into the closers role and Bard back to setup role.
  15. Rivera hasnt done that since 2008, and most relievers who continually run past 70IP end up with some health issues. If you have a real setup man, then you can try and rest your closer. For the last 2 yrs anyway, you've had Bard around so Paps hasnt been needed for too many 1+IP saves, which is really where your closer will start to rack up innings
  16. The thing about Papelbon, though, is that in his 6 yrs with the sox, he was both durable and dominant. He's 30, so he isnt over the hill yet and he did it in your environment. I think it all depends on what the sox end up getting. If they sign Madson to a 3 yr contract at big money then they are just idiots. If they stay true to the "crap shoot" idea, then they stuck to their guns. But if they get a guy who is inferior on a big money contract that is slightly cheaper and shorter than Paps deal, then they are idiots
  17. Everything I have read has the Yanks, the Halos, and the Rangers being the front runners for this guy. CJ would at the very least, solidify our rotation, but I am a bit concerned about his performance on the big stage this past yr. He looked lost in the world series and playoffs.
  18. Okay, now its in the realm of who gives a f***. Everyone has said their peace but in terms of 2012, nobody disputes that he's not going to be in a sox uni next yr. Move on
  19. Bell is not the guy you want. Goofy as f*** and wants to stay in SD even though they havent won a damn thing in years. He's also pretty old as a FA and is likely to get a 3 yr deal if he leaves SD. I think your guy on the cheap is Nathan. He has dominated in the AL, is coming off injury and showed his pre injury stuff prior to the end of the season. He might be the guy you can get on a 1 yr deal at an AAV of around $6-8 mil to recoup his value and give the sox one more bridge yr to get Bard ready. Then you can do the "closer by committee" BS that gets Bard 20 or so chances to close games out
