  1. It's pretty embarassing when Jayson Nix is hitting in a clutch spot of a game. That being said, the guy got a hit, but we shouldnt have these scrubs hitting in big moments of any game. That error by Phelps really hurt us here and we saw two big time performers put up abysmal ABs with the game on the line. Jeter swinging first pitch and nearly GIDPing, then Grandy working the count to 3-0. Swinging 3-0 at a pitchers pitch, swinging 3-1 at a ball in the dirt then swinging 3-2 and topping a ball to Votto to end it. You take there unless the ball is down the f***ing middle on 3-0 and 3-1, especially with your best hitter on deck in Cano. Bad baseball there from Jeter and Grandy and the mediocrity continues
  2. Not what I said. I said that Nunez was considered a good defensive shortstop and since he came up to the bigs, he has lost it. It's all mental. You cannot call a minor leaguer the best defensive player in the minors when they are in the minors. It doesnt correlate. Iglesias has skills beyond almost all the SS's in the bigs, but he hasnt proven that he can do it at the big league level. That is actually important
  3. It's a f***ing joke that a guy like DeWayne Wise is getting solid time on this team.
  4. start a thread then at the bottom there is a click box to add on a poll. Submit the thread and the poll options come up
  5. what a pleasant surprise Ibanez has been
  6. ARod has no f***ing power. He hit another ball hard, reacted like he hit it out and then, once again, warning track power. Winstrol, f***ing take it!
  7. Martin with a tater! Cmon Yanks, get your s*** together on offense!
  8. Good to see the Yankees are making mediocre pitchers look like Cy Young candidates. WTF, first Chen, then Drabek, then some guy named Henderson, last night Arroyo and now Bailey. Seriously, this is f***ing depressing
  9. You learn by feedback. Right now, nobody can hit him, so instead of seeing something he needs to work on, he isnt going to have anything to work on. He needs to experience some trouble before he can really be ready for the bigs. Right now, he is just sailing
  10. Craig Hansen was rushed to the bigs, had no success and dealt him. Bard is someone they polished in the minors, brought him to the bigs at the right time and he dominated in a role out of the pen. They couldnt be more different
  11. Nova is driving me f***ing crazy. He went from being a contact pitcher with big time stuff who could avoid the walk to a strikeout pitcher who has become more wild. He needs to remember what made him good last yr. He needs to start pitching down in the f***ing zone and pitching to contact. He doesnt need to go for the K unless the situation dictates.
  12. Once again, a polished pitcher with ace stuff should have no trouble in the low minors. He dominated a league he never should have started in and he is now dominating the league he should have started in. He probably gets one more A+ start and then will see time in AA. He needs to be challenged or you run the risk of him regressing
  13. I would hold off on calling a AAA player's defense the best in baseball. His glove is as slick as they come, but let's see how he holds up in the bigs before making that comment. There are some very, very slick fielders who implode in the bigs due to mental lapses and inaccuracies with the arm. See Eduardo Nunez, who was a good fielder in the minors, who just lost it mentally and is having trouble finding it again
  14. Doubront has been a pleasant surprise, but he must cut down on the walks or he will die in this division. He has great stuff, I am not sure what you are alluding to here. He throws mid 90s and can break out a nasty curve with a serviceable change. His issue will be the walks. He cannot continue to walk 4.5 per 9 while giving up a hit per inning and expect to be successful.
  15. I think the bigger problem is that the sox had to rely on Punto in the 9th inning. That's on the manager there
  16. Equally as puzzling has been his apparent lack of confidence in his slider. When he was in the pen, the hitter had to sit either dead red high 90s or high 80s frisbee slidepiece. Now, he doesnt seem to have confidence in it, and they either have to sit fastball or change, which are close to the same speed. Nothing to change the eye level consistent enough to have it be a threat. He has been lucky thus far to avoid facing the better offenses in the league. He is one 8ER 3IP outing away from public outcry for him to move back to the pen. The masses are grumbling, but he hasnt had a game killing performance just yet. He's had a bunch of crappy performances, but he is one Beckett vs Cleveland outing away from being booed off the mound. Also, for those who think he might be rounding a corner, his walk rate has jumped from 4.6 to 5.8 per 9IP from April to May and you have seen the K rate drop off a cliff. Through April, he had a 9k/9IP rate. In May, he is striking out an eye-poppingly bad 2.7 per 9IP.
  17. He was billed as this miserable fielder, but he really isnt. His range is suspect, that's about it. He has a rocket for an arm and he makes the routine plays. He isnt patient and is being used out of the leadoff spot inappropriately. He's an average big league SS, effectively, with above average SS power. He is not the reason why the sox are below .500.
  18. He's a late inning defensive replacement who is being used as a pinch hitter/utility infielder. He should get less than 100ABs this season and effectively should just be a handcuff for Aviles should the sox have a lead. Once Iglesias takes over at SS, he is extraneous and will probably be cut
  19. What you need to do is get him out of there before he gets hurt. We saw what happened with Joba and he was never the same.
  20. Bard- 42.2IP 41H 23ER 26K 25BB That line sucks. Fangraphs has him at a xFIP of over 5. His K:BB ratio is close to 1 and he is allowing more hits than I thought he would. The "project" was to see if he could be an ace in the making. Well, if he came out firing 98mph bee bees and a knockout slider, but lacked stamina or location, then I could agree. But what he has turned into is puzzling. He has turned into a low 90s straight fastball pitcher with almost no slider to speak of and a continued reliance on a changeup that he throws almost identically in velocity to his fastball. He isnt striking people out, and with his lack of punch he has seen a massive spike in his walk rate. If you had seen a K/9 of 8 but 5IP/start and who cares about the amount of walks, I would say it is worth investigating further. But he has turned into a groundball, contact pitcher with no control or power. He's got the worst combination for success. Contact pitchers usually give up a fair amount of hits since more balls are put in play, so to this point he has been somewhat lucky (BABIP of .289). Also, since most of his contact appears to keep the ball on the ground (GB's have the highest percentage chance of a hit after line drive) he should, in essence, give up more hits than IP in this new hybrid form. Factor in the walk rate of 5.3 and you have a modern day, less effective version of Shawn Chacon out there. This is a failed project. Even if he limits hit walks, he isnt an ace out here, far from it. He is a groundball, back of the rotation pitcher with limited strikeout ability who cannot give you innings due to high pitch count. Whereas in the pen, he was a rubber armed relief ace who gave you 70 appearances of dominance over the last 2 seasons, when you needed it the most. You saw what he has now, and it is time to move on. I'd start him one more time since you really have no other option, then move him back to the pen after Cook comes back. Then, when DiceK is finally somewhat ready, you see if he can supplant Cook until either Oswalt or a similarly acquired starter can take his place
  21. Banuelos had a rough start. 5K's in 4IP, but 4 more walks. He looked to be settling in after injury and now he is back to his old ways. Hopefully he will rectify that his next time out. Good news on the farm, though. Mikey O'Brien dominated in his first AA game, going 7IP allowing only 3H. He is another under the radar kid who could make an impact on the big club. I have followed him since they drafted him out of high school. Big arm from a small frame, but he has toned it down and traded in the 4 seamer for a hard 2 seamer. He now has the stuff to be a middle of the rotation starter, and will likely finish the yr in AA. By next season, he could be on a short list for callup as rotation depth
  22. Salty looks like Red Foo from LMFAO
  23. Lee has allowed 2ER in his last 26IP vs the sox. My guess is he will be pretty good
