  1. He's baaaaaack! 1 walk, 4 hits, no taters, 1 run in the 9th. I thought Nova was turning a corner. The rotation is rolling into a CC start
  2. I doubt he's a 30HR hitter, although he's on pace for it. Once the power slows, his OPS will drop
  3. Rounds 5-10, they went in save mode. Those guys will probably get $20K at most and they'll save the rest to spend on guys like Martin, Meyers, and Fulmer
  4. Yep, and it allows teams to get some feeling of what they have in year 1 before instructs. The way things were, overslot HS signees would miss all of short season and get their first taste of pro ball in fall instructs then be gone for the off season. If effectively removed any professional experience from their first pro season. Now, executives actually liked that, though, as the players who were looking to sign for more money would be showcased in summer events, be it HS level leagues or the Cape Cod league/NECBL.
  5. All you guys went away . LOL I have been doing some scouring, and have seen the light. I think the Yankees have punted some picks and the sox definitely punted some picks as well, to gain flexibility. So, here is the deal.... Every pick has a slotted amount. The slots for the first 10 rounds are pooled together and are your draft budget. Any pick after the 10th round that gets a bonus of over $100K gets the bonus-$100K taken from the draft pool. Any player signed after the 10th round with a $100K or lower bonus doesnt count toward the pool. You can go up to 104.9% of the draft pool without incurring penalties. From 105%-110% you are taxed only. From 110%-115% you get harshly taxed and lose 1 first rounder. 115% and higher is a humongous tax and 2 first rounders. Hence, most teams will be going to the 105% range. Now, if you do not sign a player from the top 10 rounds, that pick's slot is removed from the draft pool. So let's say the sox draft pool is $8 million. And let's say Marerro doesnt sign and his slotted pick is $2.5 million. The sox will have a draft pool of $5.5 million for the rest of their picks. But, if they sign Marerro for $1.5 million, they'd save $1 million on the slot and have $6.5 million for the rest of their picks (as their draft pool will still be $8 million, you get me). Hence all these senior guys going in rounds 1-10. The college seniors from rounds 4-10 will likely see $25-50K in bonus, while the slot recommendation is actually over $100K more than that. So, by taking guys who have no leverage, they are increasing their available overslot funds by $100K. Over on the other Yankee sites, they are expecting the Yankees to have around 850K-1 million dollars available for overslot signees after their top 10 is filled up. That means they can go crazy in rounds 11-40. Hence why the Yankees drafted 3 HSers and a College Jr LHP in rounds 11-15. It is gonna be a weird way of doing things, but it doesnt prevent anyone from drafting and signing overslot HSers late in the draft. It just now moves college seniors from rounds 11-20, where they were traditionally drafted, into the top 10 rounds
  6. I think it is fairly obvious that Dice is on his way back on Saturday. They limited him to 40 pitches yesterday for a reason. I wouldnt read into the stats in the minors as rehab stats are always deceiving. I didnt get any SRs on his stuff, though. Over the last few seasons, Dice has seen his FB velo slip into the high 80s, low 90s, while in his best seasons with Boston, he was in the low to mid 90s. If he can regain his cheese, you might get some serviceable starts and he might even slot in as a middle of the rotation pitcher.
  7. Any strong lefty just needs to hit a fly ball to left to get a double or a tater. Papi has been doing it for years. Papi can drive it over the monster too, but a lot of his doubles and HRs to left are flyouts anywhere else, and probably not even to the track. Just get under it and be a little late on it and you're on base. Makes me wonder why AdGon has lost this approach. He seems content with the oppo groundball single instead of the oppo wall ball double or tater
  8. Robertson was pretty good in 2010, lots of walks, but tons of K's and a low ERA. He really came out last yr as he is still pretty young Soriano was injured for most of 2011 and has otherwise been dominant his whole career.
  9. Without a true, elite pen talent, everyone is a crapshoot at all times. Nobody has a pen full of lockdown relievers, but you have to have someone who you can trust in huge spots. V is doing a good job of managing them, but everyone reverts to norms eventually. Some guys revert after a full season and others revert in season.
  10. I think they are trying one more last gasp effort to correct Bard in a low pressure environment. But, he is doing exactly what I thought he would do. The guy overthinks his situations and needs things simplified. When they tried to have him start, he sucked in the minors. When they simplified things, he was absolutely unhittable. My guess is he gets another 2 starts in AAA, and if he sucks, they convert him to closer in AAA for a week or two. When he regains his stuff, he comes to the bigs and sets up Aceves. Vintage Bard tonight hands the ball to Aceves with a 4-3 lead
  11. Your pen got hot together, but they really arent all that good. Atchison is a journeyman. Padilla is a washed up former starter. Morales is a hot and cold lefty. Hill and Miller are failed starters. And Aceves is really a middle reliever. You were due for a correction. The question becomes, how much are they going to correct? Will they all go back to their career baselines or will they all show together that they can do it for this yr? I am thinking it is back to baselines for them all
  12. I think you are looking at your Papi replacement right there. Salty is hitting the s*** out of the ball in the clutch these days and I do not think he has a long term future behind the dish. He's awful back there, but his bat is powerful.
  13. It's a HR, they'll look, but this is a homer
  14. And now the Yankees are tied in the L column for the AL East lead. It's no coincidence that our pitching is starting to come together and we have started winning. Now, all we need to do is see if Nova can build off his recent appearances and actually put up a QS. I would much rather see Nova as the sinkerballer going deep into games vs the guy K'ing 10, lasting 5IP and seeing 4 runs score
  15. Andy Pettitte has been an ace in his return. 7 shutout innings, should have only been 1 hit, and 10 more K's. 2.78ERA, 1.01WHIP, 32K in 35.2IP and he has gone at least 6.1IP in all 5 starts with 4 of them going 7 or longer. Just a breath of fresh air. He found a slider while he was out and ditched the cutter and it is dominating. The cutter used to be mid 80s, now he is throwing a slider around 80 with much more bite. It is dominating lefties and he is using it in on righties setting them up for the fastball away. Any aspiring pitcher needs to watch him pitch to see what it really means to be a pitcher
  16. I am not sure he is healthy Pal. He had a shoulder injury, hit in the HR derby and since then is the spitting image of Nick Johnson. Singles hitter with some doubles, the occasional HR and some walks.
  17. Pettitte sucked balls in his last minor league start and he has owned since coming up. I wouldnt worry about rehab numbers, unless it's velocity or stuff related
  18. Russel Martin heating up. Grand Slam, Yankees hang a 6 spot on Shields
  19. This was when he was still at Bethune Cookman last yr. He transferred to Miami this past yr and was otherworldly until he fractured his wrist. He's a massive man with humongous now power, but there are questions as to whether he can stick at the position
  20. 15th rounder- Dayton Dawe- RHP- AB Lucas SS Canada- The Yankees have made a habit of going after some Canadian HS pitchers and this yr was no exception. Dawe follows Turley and Rutckyj to the Yankee farm.
  21. 14th rounder- Andrew Benak- SR RHP from Rice University. Not sure why we are still going with easy sign guys
  22. 13th rounder- James Pazos- LHP U San Diego- Jr draftee, big frame, definite signability case
  23. 12th rounder- Christopher Breen- C- Winter Springs HS- FL- Big bodied catcher with power. Two signability guys off the bat in the 11th and 12th rounds
