  1. Those who want iggy to start the yr as shortstop might get their wish. Stephen Drew still has concussion symptoms and will be out indefinitely. Which could be a couple more days to a couple months.
  2. Brennan Boesch would be a good idea
  3. Phil Hughes' line in 2012 with zero fastball velocity was as follows.. 1.56ERA 12K:3BB 1.10WHIP in Spring Training of 2012. He went on to post an ERA of 7.88 in April.
  4. It could be. Thing is, when these fireballers show up in camp and start hitting triple digits, the casual fan goes gaga and these kids might not know what to do with the newfound notoriety. He's still gotta keep his location in check. He reminds me a lot of Jose Ramirez on the Yankee side. The only difference is that Rubby never had good command in the minors, while Ramirez is coming off his first minor league season where he located well
  5. For established vets, ST means nothing. For rookies, it means next to nothing, but it is a little bit strange that a guy with a slim shot at stating the yr in the bigs has taken a nosedive. I still stand by my prediction with Rubby. He's more closer than starter
  6. With the Yankees injuries... Jays Yankees (WC) Rays Red Sox Orioles
  7. Inflammation in the heel is about as vague as it can get. Is it inflammation around the calcaneus? Inflammation around the plantar fascia? Is there a tendon inflamed? If it's plantar fasciitis, you likely are looking at a recurring problem, but something he will be able to play through. I not only know as a physician, but it took about 9 months for my plantar fasciitis to go away
  8. I believe it is after May. The line moves on a yearly basis, but it usually is around June 1. Exactly the time the Rays are expected to call Will Myers up
  9. There are definitely some options and if the option requires either big money or big parts, then you can be assured that reports on Tex are unfavorable. There is definitely a chance that after 4 weeks, Tex doesnt improve and needs season ending surgery
  10. He was definitely painted into a corner with their most marketable player. He could have gone for berkman, although he's just as injured
  11. Signing Ortiz while still injured with an injury that might require surgery was unwise. That being said, he'd have gotten a two yr deal on the open market. He rolled the dice and right now it's looking like Cherington might get burned
  12. The Yankees are apparently trying to get Derrek Lee out of retirement. That sounds less like a plan for while Tex is out and more like an insurance plan should Tex need surgery
  13. Your #1 prospect is Bogaerts. Bradley profiles to have average power. He'll probably top out in the 15HR range in his career. Bogaerts currently plays SS, has now power and the potential to be a 35HR a yr guy annually. And it isnt like Xander is miring through Lowell. He has an outside chance of starting in Pawtucket this yr
  14. Jose Ramirez has burst onto the scene in Spring Training and is catching the eye of Joe Girardi. Prior to 2012, he had some issues with command (4BB/9IP) and was getting hit around a little. He repeated high A in 2012 and dominated, got the K rate up, the BB rate down and had a phenomenal 3-1 K/BB rate with less hits than innings pitched. Add to that a mid 90s fastball that tops out at 100mph, a now plus change and an inconsistent but flashing plus slider and you have the makings of an ace level pitcher. He dominated the sox and pitches yesterday where he dominated the Braves. Looks like he is coming into his own and should be in AA to start the yr. Should the Yankees need a pen arm late in the yr, Ramirez might end up serving there once he gets close to his starting inning cap And depending on the publication, Ramirez is anywhere from our #16-#20 prospect. The only national writer who gives him any love is Law since he physically saw him last yr, came away impressed and had him in the first 10 out part of his top 100. If he shows he is healthy in 2012 and replicates what he did in 2012 while in AA, he will be a top 50 or higher prospect no doubt
  15. Bradley is the antithesis of Ellsbury in the field. Ellsbury gets horrendous jumps on balls, but his blazing speed allows him to make up for it. Bradley has above average big league speed, but his jumps are so good that he doesnt need to find the extra burst to get after balls he broke poorly on.
  16. Bradley just looks smoothe out in CF. he looks like your eventual CFer of the future.
  17. 4th lowest BAA, lowest ERA and lowest WHIP in the live ball era. I'm going to enjoy this yr regardless
  18. They're likely looking for a tear that has developed since he ramped up activities. There could be some scar tissue there as well
  19. Not sure why they decided to re-MRI him, but it's fair to say its not routine.
  20. Pot, meet kettle. I'm still waiting for MLB TV
  21. He has the lowest career ERA of any pitcher with 1000 or more IP in the live ball era by 0.30. He's the best reliever of all time. He's the best Yankee pitcher of all time. He's the best playoff pitcher of all time. And there is an argument to be made about one of the best pitchers of all time. He's irreplaceable and we will miss him.
  22. In Yankee Stadium, I would rather see Aubrey Huff. That guy seems to be maddeningly inconsistent, but if he continues that trend, he should be dynamite this yr since he was f***ing abysmal last yr
  23. I have a feeling there is a move abrewing. I bet we get some scrap heap signing or trade that provides depth, but this season seems like the perfect time to go out and snag a big name mid season.
  24. 8-10 weeks sounds ominous when you think, man, that's 2 plus months. But when you consider that we're in early March, it isnt as ominous. It really just means we need to get through April. We've had s*** Aprils before and still won, so it isnt out of the realm of possibility. If this were a season long issue, then we'd be f***ed, but it isnt. That being said, Tex's wrist injury is troubling. If they dont rest him enough, the tendon can tear and he'll be lost for the year.
  25. That argument is a lot of noise, lol
