Pal, Masterson and Vic have absolutely no value. And while you believe Hanley to have value, he has torpedoed it in Boston. He left Boston in the Beckett trade, but everyone seemed to hate him on the way out. He played in Miami and LA, which aren't exactly fan frenzied placed to play in. His play and attitude here have been magnified and he has gone into a shell since May 1. Nobody is going to deal for him without the sox taking a massive chunk of the contract. Pal, I know you think of him as a 3 and $60 mil, but he is more than that. He still has roughly $15 mil left on his deal this yr plus 3 yrs $66 mil plus a vesting option for another $20+ mil. The sox would behoove themselves to look for a team willing to eat most of his contract and not get anything in return of value. Koji has value, but he got a ridiculous deal for a 40 year old and would need to eat some cash for next yr to get an Andrew Miller type return. Buchholz has value for now, until he goes on the DL. Every season the last 5 years he has hit the DL between May 30th and July 4th. If you're gonna move him, do it after his next good start and count your blessings. He's the one guy right now who is tradeable who might actually give you a good return without having to eat any cash

That could be a plan Pal. Sometimes proven players take time to adjust, especially when you move for the first time like Pablo. But I think the culture is the bigger issue, to be totally honest. Pablo has always been known as a "me first" guy. Hanley has been known as a cancer. Miley and Gibson came to blows last year. They didn't exactly bring in character guys. Add to that Papi, who's a great leader when things are going well, but a bitch prima Donna when things aren't and you have the makings of a toxic clubhouse. Pedroia seems to have taken a step back as a leader. Youk and Tek are gone. You don't have leadership on the mound, as Clay is a fragile flower with the heart of a mouse and he's meant to lead the rotation? When your team is going great, leaders pop up all over the place. When things are hitting the fan, true leaders emerge and try to pull you out of it. I don't think the sox have any save maybe Pedroia. And that's why you're seeing no accountability and a generalized "I don't give a f***" look to the team.

No, spud, I haven't. They're the worst sox team I've seen in awhile. that was the funny thing about the sox from 03-11 or so. Fundamentals, good pitching and high OBP. This team has none. It's a collection of guys with baseball card stats who don't know how to play the game who are being paid way more than they are worth. It seems the sox have gotten away from getting best players available and have decided to play the "I'm smarter than you" approach to building a team. All the while, they have let major talent walk and have made some questionable draft decisions which has left a bit of a hole in development. I know the sox have talent in the minors, but in terms of MLB ready guys, you're seeing most of it from a position player perspective. And what you're seeing ain't good. The 2013 title must have felt great for you guys, but it gave Ben confidence and allowed him to forget what helped him win that title aside from a massive amount of luck. I saw through his BS in ST, but I doubt anyone saw this level of performance. They're currently in line for the 4th pick in next year's draft, with a real shot at #1. You have to change the decision makers.

There is no way to fix this in one offseason. Most of the guys you added for the long term have sucked. If you let Ortiz' option vest, you're stuck with him too. You either need to hope for a rebound back to career norms or have to spend big again in the FA pool, which we all know is a problem with the sox. In terms of guaranteed money, you're already at $103.9 mil without factoring in any arb money or options (like Ortiz and Buchholz who together could account for another $30 mil next yr). My guess is Hanley will slot into 1b and Panda stay at 3b. YOu are set at SS and 2b. The C position likely is split between Vazquez and Swihart. You're on the hook for Castillo and likely have Betts out there too. If Ortiz' option vests, he's at DH. The only spot in your lineup that is open for next yr will be a COF spot. So your capability to upheave the roster is limited. On the mound, Miley and Porcello are locked into spot. I would assume ERod is as well. If Buch keeps pitching to a 4ERA, his option will be picked up. SO you are looking at 4 out of 5 spots filled too. Barring a major trade of guys you probably don't want to trade, you're gonna see a similar product on the field in 2016

You go out and sign 2 big bats, bring up kids at important positions, and re tool the rotation, then you put your stamp on the team. None of the moves he made has worked out aside from the Miller trade for ERod which happened last year.

If Beane pulled the trigger without gauging interest around the league, then he's an idiot. And he is not. My bet is that he wanted one of the "untouchables" and was turned down. I think they got Lawrie for now and like what they got in Graveman and Nolin. My bet is they wanted a now 3b (maybe Holt) and Owens or ERod with a couple other guys in there. And he was probably turned down.

Not a soul will take Hanley or Panda right now. Hanley has proven to be a huge cancer and after a hot month, he's been ice cold and showing signs of being a prick.

Meh, if we had our usual troubles, I'd say move CC to the pen. The problem is, we have a bunch of left handed relievers. Also, CC has started to turn the corner. I think part of it is that Girardi is learning how to play him. If Joe has his eye to the pen after the second turn through the lineup, then we'll be ok. If he thinks he's cruising into the 6th and 7th and has no contingency, then we are f***ed. I like our depth. Nova has been throwing absolute ched in the minors. I'd love to see him enter the fray. I think they'll pull Warren from the rotation, even though he's probably been our second best starter this yr due to consistency and performance. It's a good problem to have. With 6 MLB quality starters, we can have the depth to deal with a Pineda or Tanaka injury

a700, I think the GM takes the heat here. When you go out and remake your roster, you own it. What I don't think he took into account was how Porcello would react as "the guy". He'd been in Detroit where last year, he was 5th in line for starts and died in September. Bring him in here, anoint him your ace, throw gobs of money at him and expect him to be something he has never been and you have the makings of an abject failure. Also, I think Cherries thought Porcello was building up and last year was akin to what was to come aside from an aberration of an otherwise middling career. You can go out and get that player, but the contract extension right now looks real bad. I said from DAY 1 that Miley was a bad move. This guy is a HR waiting to happen and has seen his rates move in the wrong direction. Masterson was done last year, Ben thought he could coax another year out of a dead body. He was wrong. Kelly was a guy who never cut it as a starter in the NL, why did they think he could all of a sudden do it in the AL? You throw $103 mil over 5 years at Porcello and you could have had Lester for another year and $30 more mil. A rotation takes its beat from the top. When you have an ace, guys can feed off it. When everyone else sucks, then you can play down to your surroundings

spud, we lost Tanaka for a month plus and have been without Nova all year. We've been 2 weeks without Jacoby and he should be back late June. I said all preseason that if we stayed healthy, we were making the playoffs. We didn't stay healthy, but we're rapidly getting healthy and have a lead in the AL East right now. Should we get Jacoby and Ivan back and still have a lead, we're the favorites barring further injury or deals

The sox would behoove themselves by not letting that option vest
