  1. Meh, I need you to focus here. We have plenty of high upside arms in our rotation. We are lacking the innings eating, durable, middle of the rotation or higher starter. If we deal for anybody now that Chapman is in the fold, it will not be for a 22 yr old kid who looked good in 75 innings in the bigs last yr. If we deal away a perennial 3 win OFer, it is in the deal to get a 200IP eating starter or another capable bat. It wont be for another "could be".
  2. Exactly. Our pen might actually benefit from having to deal without him for the first 50 games. We have a LOT of power arms who are MLB ready who could fill the void for 1/3 of the season. We could even groom someone to be a big trade piece at the deadline
  3. I'm hoping for a 50 gamer
  4. And UN?, they're apparently expecting a 15 game suspension per ESPN
  5. No sox fan should like this deal. We gave up a minimal amount for an elite closer
  6. He'll play. I am actually hoping for a 50 day suspension. This allows us to control him for 2017 as well
  7. Yankees pitching staff as a whole just swung in our favor by a tick. Ace spot is in the sox favor, but I'll take our 2-5. Closers are a wash, but I'll take our 7-8 even though smith is highly underrated. We have two dominant lefties in our pen
  8. The Yankees now have the top 3 strikeout pitchers in baseball in their pen. Betances, Miller, Chapman. Jesus Christmas, that's awesome. Add in Shreve, Mitchell, Pinder, Pazos, Lindgren and a cadre of other dominant AAA relievers and we have a pen that looks to be unstoppable. This makes the deals involving Warren and Wilson more acceptable
  9. The union gave Manfred all the power when it comes to abuse. If he goes NFL on them, then Chapman might be out a couple months. There are 182 days between opening day and last regular season game. He needs 138. A 50 day suspension gives us an extra year
  10. And he needs 138 days of experience to hit FA after the season. If he gets suspended over the abuse issue, we might get him for a second yr
  11. Jagielo has real power and is the highest upside guy in the deal
  12. If we don't deal Miller, our 7-9 will be downright unbeatable. We have a good bridge if we don't use them either. This pen is going to be insane
  13. Davis has ace stuff but his performance has sucked until last yr. Jagielo has light tower power, but has been hurt and is a diabetic. Cotham was a DfA candidate and Renda is a JAG. Jagielo was also blocked by Bird as he's not built to be a 3b long term
  14. No word yet officially on the return, but Rookie Davis is thought to be headed to Cincy
  15. You have $91 mil a year tied up in 4 players, 3 of which sucked last yr. you have almost the exact same amount to fill out the other 21 spots to stay under the tax. Henry is not staying under the tax. By the time one of the big contracts comes off the books, Betts and Bogaerts will be be arb eligible and expensive
  16. Dojji, while they may have depth, I wouldnt classify it as strong
  17. He won't show patience, I agree. I also don't think he'll be patient on the #2 front. I think you'll deal for one
  18. The only guy in your rotation you can count on is Price, but you can count on big innings and big performance, which is huge. Porcello was not reliable last yr, so relying on him in any way is dicey. ERod has the most upside of anyone not named Price, but young pitchers are highly unpredictable in both performance and durability. Akin to Severino with us, it's nice to pencil in the name, but it could be a bumpy ride for 2016. Clay and Kelly are basically dice rolls and Owens and Johnson don't seem to project as future dominant starters either. You need one more reliable, mid rotation to #2 to top off the off season. Elias is not that guy
  19. Ben Cherington pissed excellence until he starting pissing blood. Then he got scared
  20. Manny Ramirez should have his number retired as well
  21. If a player gets into the HOF, then they were very meaningful to SOME team. I consider the retiring of a number to be a step below HOF, so any HOFer should have their number retired, but not all number retirees should be in the HOF
  22. Nobody is untouchable per se, but Moncada has the biggest investment, so he is probably unmoveable.
  23. You must be a youngin, lol. When Boggs was getting inducted, the player got to choose which cap they wear into the HOF. He tried to get paid to wear a devil ray cap into the hall by asking the Rays for a check. That instituted the new rule that the caps are decided for them by the HOF committee
  24. For 10 seasons, he was the best player at his position and one of the best players in baseball, period. His numbers are stupid, seriously stupid. If he was around today, he'd be getting $35 mil a yr. One season he had a .478OBP. And that's pre roid era where offensive numbers were real.
  25. Ty Cobb didn't have his number retired, as he didn't have a number when he played, but his name is up there at Comerica. And he killed a guy. So lighten up on Boggs
