  1. Price's deal was made before you even had Groome. We signed McCann when Sanchez was in AA.
  2. Thinking about Moncada at 3rd isn't crazy. Heck, the O's moved Machado to get him up quicker. Right now, you have a sinking ship at 3b. Shaw's second half stats are abysmal. .190/.268/.392. And that comes on the heels of a June where he hit .214. If the kid comes up and shits the bed, he cant be worse than the garbage you are getting from there currently. And you can always send him back down. Moncada is doing in AA what you want to see. Good AB's, more power, high OBP and OPS
  3. Kopech has the raw stuff to be a starter. You can rush him to the bigs and basically guarantee he stays in the pen, or you can let him develop his secondary and tertiary pitches so he could be an option in the rotation. It's always enticing. Just remember, we did the same thing with Joba and it ruined his shoulder and he was never the same again
  4. In order to get a prime free agent, you typically overpay in years and dollars. We knew McCann wasn't the answer in year 5, just like you know Price will be a shell of himself in year 7 of his deal. Typically, you try to make your money back in the first half to 75% of the contract because the last 25-50% is going to be a bust. For us, McCann bridged a gap that we thought had a title run in it. We were wrong. But more importantly, he bridged a gap to avoid us having to rush Sanchez. Now, he's primed and ready to be a beast.
  5. Fangraphs has his value at $49 mil as a Yankee. Almost exactly what he's earned. Mic drop
  6. Cervelli has been really good in Pittsburgh and got a big contract from them. Montero ate himself out of the position and could only hit in AAA
  7. No Yankee fan thought McCann's 5 yr deal would mean he'd be a dominant catcher in year 5. He will be 33 next yr. He'll be 34 in the final year of the contract. I think the predominant thought at the time was that he could switch to 1b for 2017 when Tex leaves via FA. Well, now with Bird entering the equation and Austin forcing himself onto the scene, 1b is a little bit murkier. He was a solid defensive catcher here. He provided 20HR pop and if not for Sanchez taking his job Aug 1, he'd have gotten to 20 already this yr. There are TONS of contracts I have an issue with. McCann's isn't one of them. He bought us time. We got McCann right after the Pineda deal. We suffered through a season with Stewart as our catcher. Our closest prospect was a kid in AA who seemed a bit immature. Could he have made the leap then, maybe? But would he be what he is now, no way. McCann allowed the Yankees to develop Sanchez. He was always a good blocker and thrower, but his calling of games and his pitch framing were terrible. With time and training, he is now really good at both and manages his pitchers well also. Plus, he matured with the bat as well. He is ready. He is now our starting catcher. And McCann's acquisition allowed this maturity to grow
  8. A. His option isn't vesting B. We all know his contract was for 3 years, even though we'll be paying a DH catcher money for the final two C. Saying Sanchez will be a bust is rather stupid right now Edit: just like we all know the sox weren't expecting 7 years of prime performance out of Price when they signed him
  9. McCann provided 2+ WAR every year and was phenomenal defensively. I think we got out of McCann all we could ask for. He was a bridge to avoid rushing Sanchez. It worked
  10. The main problem with Young is that Farrell plays him too much vs righties
  11. Sanchez hitting .360 with 5HR in his first 50AB. Girardi has proclaimed him out starting catcher going forward
  12. There's no point in ramping him up. I continue to question our system's treatment of our pitchers when it comes to arm injuries. Their passive nature usually costs the player two years of development time instead of one. I expect to hear about TJS for James either in the fall or when things ramp up in February
  13. Castro has been hot and cold. We are getting good power out of the position, but at the cost of poor OBP and below average defense. He needs to remember who he is. He isn't a 20HR hitter. He's better as a .300 hitter
  14. The crazy thing is, Girardi still needs to try to win. We wont go full out rebuild until we sink, but we've actually been better since we brought up the kids. Who'd have thunk it
  15. Onto the kids, I am pretty impressed by Judge and Sanchez. Very mature approaches to the plate, light tower power when they get ahold of one, and the capability to go the other way. They will work their way into the middle of the order in due time. I am actually really surprised, albeit pleasantly, that McCann has basically been relegated to DH duties. I thought Sanchez would come up and platoon DH and C, but he's been the every day catcher for a bit now. And from what I have seen, I am impressed. Good arm, received well, blocks well, handles pitchers well. He's been awesome. I would like to see Austin supplant the ghost of Mark Teixeira on a regular basis and even get some play over Aaron "I SUCK' Hicks in the OF and Chase "I am a large singles hitter" Headley. Austin is an unusual utility guy. He can play all corners in the IF and OF and he can run enough to steal double digit bases.
  16. We certainly have some openings. Right now, CC, Tanaka, and Pineda are pitching well enough to be locks. After that, it's an open competition. Green has no more need to be in AAA. Really, none. The guy has a sub 2ERA in the minors. He has blow away stuff and should be kept in the rotation from here on out. Severino needs to work on the changeup. I thought he used it deftly last year, but he lost the feel for it. He can get by as a reliever with a fb-slider combo, but after going through the lineup once, guys figured him out. When he goes to AAA, they need to tell him that he has to throw his changeup X amount of times per start. If he doesn't develop that pitch, he'll end up in the pen. And that is a huge regression for a kid who looked like a future ace last yr
  17. Severino continues to struggle. He might need to just go to AAA and finish out the yr then come up as a long man to take the pressure off. Sanchez and Judge homer again.
  18. Back to back first ABs. I don't know if that has ever happened. Judge's HR is a bomb. Almost over the restaurant in CF. welcome to the bigs kid
  19. Kevin Maas had an awesome rookie year. It was the subsequent seasons that blew. Don't forget, we also have Bird for next yr
  20. Judge and Sanchez have light tower power. Judge has more, though. He can go where only guys like Stanton can. The question remains, can he make enough contact at the big league level. I hope so. He's ready. And he can't be worse than Hicks Austin is an interesting guy. He was a top 100 prospect three years ago, then he tore a tendon in his wrist. He had surgery and lost all his pop. He was DFAd last yr and was signed as a MiLB FA afterwards. He was literally on his last chance, and lucky for us, his power came back. The kid can hit. He's better than Tex right now. As much as the "youth movement" is needed, the guys coming in are going to be an instant improvement. We're somehow still only 3.5 games out. If we "rebuild" and sneak into the playoffs, there should be a movie made
  21. Austin and Judge promoted. The new era dawns
  22. Thank god it's over
  23. As a Yankee fan, I obviously want the sox to lose. But not this way. I hope he's ok
  24. Xrays negative. Will be out for a bit. If he has trouble running after a week or so, I'd expect an MRI or CT. Tex had a similar problem last yr and it took weeks to make the final diagnosis
