This had to be done. Shaw started 2016 off hitting .300 with power and OBP. He has withered to the point of being less valuable than Chase Headley. You know, the guy who had no EBH in April? Shaw is a liability and Moncada is the future. Couldn't be worse

Frazier and Rutherford out, likely for the year, with minor hamstring issues. Frazier has had a rough transition. Sheffield has been dynamite since he came over. Feyereisen has been great. Heller has been dominant and recently promoted (gave up a 2 run dinger today). But of all the guys we got, the guy I am most impressed with is Torres. He has been as consistent as one can be, which is impressive for a 19 yr old. .791OPS with Chicago, .773 with NY. OBP's identical. He wont be 20 until right before Christmas. And once he gets out of the hell that is the FSL, he should really fly. Interested to see what he could do in AA -
Spud, if we get Tanaka on the hill into the 7th, Clippard and Betances to close out the game, I take my chances against damn near anyone. Aside from that combo, I am not impressed for this yr. We have a ton of promise with Tanaka, Green, Cessa, and eventually Severino, but right now, we don't have much beyond that. If we get into the playoff and we line up Tanaka, we should reach the ALDS. That being said, I don't think we win the second wild card.

I think we're built better for a one game this yr. I don't think we're built as well for a series

Tanaka plus Betances in a one game playoff is a problem for a lot of teams, especially if our offense steps up

If you're on the 40 man prior to the season and don't break camp with the team, you have to be optioned to the minors prior to opening day

I just saw the play. Basically a non contact knee injury. That's not a good thing. I hope he didn't blow out the knee, but I'd be worried about an ACL with that kind of mechanism

He isn't keeping up the pace, but he's a legit future star player. His biggest problem in the past has been in his own head. When he'd be kept at a level longer than he'd think necessary, he'd dog it a bit. He's had at least one suspension for insubordination and he's been benched for not running balls out. Pena took him under his wing last year and it really helped the kid's demeanor and work ethic. He's worked hard at his defensive craft to become a real catching prospect vs a hitting prospect who played catcher. The irony is, if Sanchez reaches his offensive potential on a yearly basis, he might be moved off the position to add life to his career
