  1. And it isn't like he's a CFer. He's a defense first LFer who grades out well on the basepaths. He does a lot of little things, which is why his WAR is over 2, but he isn't worth $14 mil. The difference in speed and power wise from last year is apparent. One year older and he will likely slip further. With the funds we will have available and with the fact that the cap wont apply, we could do a lot better. Don't get me wrong, his contract was solid for both sides. One of the rare instances that the player didn't bilk the team and the team didn't short change the player.
  2. I think re-signing him as a backup would be a good deal, although we’ll have the man of glass and Frazier ready.
  3. Certainly could, but we need a pitching acquisition
  4. They face planted vs Boston. And the call wasn’t BS. You can’t come that close to a fielder actively fielding a ball. This team has beaten the s*** out of Cleveland and Houston. We dominated good teams up until the debacle in Fenway. We have been mediocre vs the s*** of the league
  5. Right cash, right place. We’re under the cap and have a ton of cash coming off the books. Someone big will come out way
  6. Never too early to start. Heyman reporting Machado wants to sign with the Yankees in the offseason, but will only play 3b “under the right circumstances”. The assumption is Machado would play 3b and Andujar would move to 1b.
  7. What we have is a team that can play up to its competition and down to the dregs of the league. I don’t get it
  8. Pull this fat f***
  9. Might be time to try Gray again. Lynn is back to his s***** Twins debut self
  10. We have our rotation lined up for the Sox series. It currently lines up with Severino, Tanaka, and Lynn, but with the off day before the series, they can start CC in game 3 on full rest. That series will likely either be a catapult for a fun finish or the clinching series of the East. If they’re gonna make their move, they’ll need to make it now. Gotta shave off two games before then and that isn’t easy with the Sox rattling off 18-20 win months like they’re easy
  11. How bout then Irish. Love that they beat Michigan. Gonna be a fun year
  12. We have three vs the A’s and M’s. We have to take 3 of those 6 and we won’t be caught
  13. Oakland lost their ace. We have a five game lead on them for home field. We also have a ten game lead for the playoff. We have a game tomorrow vs Detroit then go face our two most likely play in game opponents. If we take tomorrow and win 3 or 4 on the west coast, we don’t have to worry about anything
  14. Betances can’t close! Boone, wtf?
  15. That’ll only be if Barnes or Hembree blow a playoff gane
  16. Torreyes plays 3b okay, though. Just seems like a weird move unless Didi is out longer
  17. Gary's scary groin injury cost him 2 months, yet he returns today. He replaces Austin Romine, who has proven himself to be a great backup yet when thrust into a regular role, cannot hit. Romine gets a lot of praise in Yankee circles for his ability to block balls and handle pitching staffs, but I will point blame at him for one thing; the fade of Severino. Severino's fall from the Cy Young race can almost certainly be traced to when Sanchez went on the DL in late June. Now why would a pitcher fade when the superior defensive catcher is inserted? It has to be pitch selection. Now, I know a lot of people think there's something "wrong" with Severino physically. I disagree. I've watched each of his last handful of starts with a more intrigued eye. What I am seeing, is pitch selection. He's still topping out at 100mph. He is still locating his heater very well. He is still throwing the slider with a devastating break and locating it. His change the last three starts has been very good as well. So why would a guy with elite stuff with elite command suck against bad teams? It has to be pitch selection. David Cone brought this point up in the broadcast last night and it makes total sense. Since Romine took over, we are seeing a lot more sliders early in the count. Now while this could be useful in getting ahead, it is also showing the batter his best strikeout pitch in a non K situation. Aside from a "get me over" slider, one either thrown to initiate an AB or when behind, his slider has a hard bite away from a righty and down out of the zone. By showing this early in the count, it is preparing batters from it when he goes to it for the K. This is causing more hitters to lay off of it, hence elongating at bats or more hitters sitting on it and driving it the other way for the hit. Since Romine took over, Sevy's pitch counts have been way, way up. He has seen his ERA's per month go to 6.58 in July and 4.86 in August, far from the 3.06, 2.03, and 1.60 of the season's first 3 months. He's gone past 6 innings once since July 2nd and did so 9 times prior to that. Another interesting tidbit, he threw 30 more pitches in August than he did in May (both 6 start months) yet he threw 6.2IP more in May. It clearly details the struggles he has been having. Now, my hope is Gary returns and so does his pitch calling with Sevy. Fastballs early and often. If a guy hits em, tip the cap. Drop enough change ups in there to keep them guessing but not to overexpose his pitch. Get to two strikes and either go fastball up and out of the zone or slider down and away. Change the eye level and show them the pitch when you can put them away. He was doing it earlier and my hope is he returns to that mode
  18. Thankfully, the reinforcements arrive for today’s game. Cutch should be in the lineup. Sanchez returns as well. This should push Andujar and Torres down two spots and lengthen the roster. I’d like to see Walker get more run as he’s been good of late. Let him play 2b and Torres can continue at SS
  19. This one worries me a bit. It makes me wonder if we won’t be seeing Didi as early as we thought. Hech is still a plus defender, yet offers nothing with the bat. We already have that in Tyler Wade, and he’s still young and is currently faster than Hech. His career path isn’t written already.
  20. Nah, Torres and Andujar will be thorns in your side for a long, long, long time
  21. Boone thrown out and we drop three bombs and take the lead!
  22. Stupid f***ing pitch calling. First pitch, get me over slider with two runners on and two outs. Just stupid. I sincerely hope Sanchez fixes this issue. He’s got a 100mph fastball that he can locate all over the zone. Why is he getting ahead with his slider? This doesn’t make sense. That’d be like Sale throwing “get me over” sliders to scrubs. No power pitcher worth their salt does that. Time to see what the sequencing can do to help Sevy. His stuff is still dominant. He’s just showing way too much of his arsenal early in count. Locate the heat to get strikes 1 and 2. Mix in the change if you have to. Go to the slider later on counts.
  23. I wonder if Sanchez will help Sevy. It seems Sevy has fallen off since Sanchez went down. The stuff is there. He throws a 100mph with location. He has a devastating slider. His change is pretty good. His sequencing is way, way off.
  24. Sevy doesn't learn. He goes back to back with the slider on 1-1 to get it to 1-2. Throws a couple fastballs then the Lugo kid is sitting on a slider and singles to right. The slider he threw to Lugo was a nasty one, off the plate away. But the kid had already seen 2 of them in the AB and he read it.
  25. Yet this year, his April-July hadn't been good either. I think he's done
