  1. Having the DH has led to a bit of an advantage for AL teams. Think about it. Instead of needing 8 offensive positions filled on a nightly basis, the AL needs 9. This leaves them with one regular player ready to pinch hit in NL home parks and a lineup that’s entirely full in AL parks. The NL teams use their best pinch hitter as a DH, but there’s no point in pointing up big cash for a pinch hitter when team building. This year, both NL teams have acquired DH type talent to flesh out their bench, so I don’t see that as a problem for either squad. Whether it’s Dozier, Muncy, or Freese with the Dodgers or Aguilar/Shaw on the Brewers, they’ll have a starting 9 in Boston worthy of being in the DH spot. This doesn’t happen every season
  2. I already put my predictions up there. If it’s Sox vs Brewers, I’m going Sox in 4. If it’s Sox vs Dodgers, it’s sox in 6. The way pitchers are now, guys don’t go on short rest unless someone ends up in a hospital (ie Price). Hence, the days of losing your ace for game 1 meaning something are over. Your ace throws in two games and maybe goes as a pen arm for another. The days when game 1 ace mattered were when game 1 ace threw games 4 and 7. The last team to do that and win were the 09 Yanks
  3. Then you’ll have to face Kershaw in games 3 and 7.
  4. What a gutless performance by Ryu
  5. That’s the rub. The Sox payroll was under the cap but when you include medicals, they were over. Hence, the Sox have now been in the penalty phase for two seasons
  6. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/857918001 This could be wrong, but they list the Sox as over for 2017
  7. Agree completely for this year
  8. Like I said, the sox won, the stros lost. I think the Astros gave up once they found out they could bleed
  9. Max, I absolutely believe he was tipping pitches. Correa fouled off a sick slider off the dish last night that he had no business fouling off unless he knew it was coming. Kimbrel isn’t used to being hit. When he is, he gets erratic. My guess is Cora will work with the PC to fix it
  10. Its gonna be Bradley. They aren’t going to tinker in the playoffs with an alignment they haven’t done in the WS
  11. I’m not a troll for saying the Astros lost the series. The Sox also won it. But here’s the logic behind the Astros “losing” the series. They entered confident. They beat Sale and we’re heading into a cold weather matchup with Price after having won back home field. They watch their 1a in their rotation get racked and their pen not being able to keep it close. From then on, the Sox scored early the rest of the way and they were playing catch-up. They looked defeated from the start of game 3 on. Now, this Astros team should come back for one more run. They should be healthier with Altuve and Correa getting procedures in the offseason, but the Sox punched the Astros in the mouth and the Astros didn’t recover
  12. Maybe the best ever? It isn’t close. He’s the GOAT. And I don’t think he’ll ever be dethroned. Akin to how Jerry Rice will never be dethroned as the best WR of all time. Nowadays, closers have a two pitch mix with obscene velocity. Velo fades with age. Mo had a single pitch that moved so much yet he could command it to a dot that he aged really well. He could easily have pitched another few years. He posted a 2.11ERA and saved 41 games as a 43 year old. That’s f***ing mind boggling!
  13. In the AL, the only team with a higher OPS against was the Angels. Every AL team’s OPS against us under .700. His numbers are silly
  14. The sox are heading into 2019 with two consecutive years of being over the lux tax. In 2018, the sox were the only team to surpass the final threshold. The sox are going to get a 30% tax this year with a 42.5% surtax for going over the final line. Next year, the lux tax penalties are 50% with a 45% surtax over the final line. Every penny over that line will be taxed at 95%??!?! This year, the few mil they are over the final line is being taxed at 72.5%. Not good, but far better than another jump.
  15. But what is the price? That's the question. ERod is heading into his second year of arb after being a super 2 player in 2018. He's got three more years of control and with his innings being down this year, you're likely looking at a $5 mil price tag? That's a great thing. Have a starter who has turned into a strike out pitcher with good enough command at 25 yrs old making $5 mil. Those guys can be dealt for a lot, but the problem with the sox right now is the payroll is too high. How do you deal off a controlled, cheap, producing asset without killing the payroll? Would you deal him for Bumgarner? DeGrom? Who knows, but either of those guys will come with a far higher price tag and lux tax hit
  16. I do not think the open checkbook will extend forever for DD. You've already surpassed the final lux tax line and will be losing 10 spots in the draft while paying high taxes. My guess is you won't be doing that forever
  17. But why do that? Erod clearly isn't healthy after injuring the ankle, but his numbers were sparkling this year. You don't deal ERod, you build with him, especially since he is cheap and the sox are running into a funding crisis. To add to my point about being too left handed. Look at these numbers from the series In the ALDS Yanks vs lefties 10.2IP 8ER 6.75ERA Yanks vs righties 26IP 6ER 2.07ERA And that is with Kimbrel trying to blow two games by allowing 3ER in 2.1IP. You need another starter who can balance out the rotation with Porcello for 2019. Eovaldi did that. If he isn't re-signed, the sox will need to do that if they are to beat NYY again. I think the chances we meet in the ALDS next year are really, really high
  18. That’s why you got Eovaldi and he and Porcello fed us our ass. That’s what I’m saying. If you allow Eo to leave, you’re gonna have 4 lefties in your 2019 rotation. That’s gonna be a problem
  19. After watching the sox buzzsaw us with 2 right handers and a pen full of righties, I think the plan will not be to get Machado. We are too vulnerable to righty power. We need a lefty bat to balance it out
  20. You almost need to try and re-sign him, although allocating capital towards him will remove some ability to retain some core pieces. Your squad got too left handed and when the biggest threat in the ALE demolishes lefties, you're gonna have to balance out. Kinda like how the sox struggle vs lefties and we tried to balance it out with suboptimal talent in Sabby and Happ
  21. Not lately. I know we are building, but since the collapse of 2013 and the turnover, it has been annoying watching the sox now in 2 world series'
  22. Nobody is Rivera. You need to think about that. Kimbrel needs high end stuff and both pitches working or he becomes erratic. Rivera threw one pitch, which he located with perfection and did it for 18 seasons. Even when his velocity waned, he was effective. He retired at 43 years old mostly because he didn't want to keep doing it. Heck, he had a 2.11ERA as a 43 yr old with 44 saves. As good as he was during the regular season, he was better in the playoffs. In 141 post season innings, he allowed 2 homeruns. 11 runners scored on him in that time. He only walked 21 batters in those innings. What he did in the regular season will never be repeated. What he did in the post season is absolutely absurd and is effectively the best playoff performance over a career in any sport of all time.
  23. Nah, I am not picking against you guys again. If the Dodgers are the opponent, sox in 6. If the Brewers are the opponent, Sox in 4
  24. He has had arm troubles, that much is for sure. Prior to blowing out his elbow, he started 60 games over 2 years and was on pace for another 30 game season when his elbow let loose
  25. He was an FA pickup, but he carries less than 6 years service time, so he falls into the arb window/pre-arb window
