  1. If you are staying under the final cap, re-signing Eovaldi will likely remove all of your spending money
  2. I’m not giving up on him. Just another option to keep his bat in the lineup while also improving offense and defense
  3. Pom would be able to receive one, but theres no way he is getting one. Kimbrel will be the only one.
  4. It also makes me wonder if we are in the market for an offensive catcher capable of supplanting Sanchez and we move Gary to backup C and DH. This would move Stanton to the OF on a semi-regular basis, especially against left handed pitchers. A guy like Wilson Ramos would make sense in that mode, or Realmuto on a grander scale. If we did that, we'd effectively have a built in 4th OFer with Frazier being the 5th OFer.
  5. Sanchez was a 5.5WAR player for 175 games between 2016 and 2017. Clearly not a s***** hitter. I get the criticism of his defensive game. His arm is special. His other defensive skills are bad. But his bat was special before a lost 2018. I guess 2019 will tell, but I think even the staunchest of sox fans think he will rebound offensively
  6. Devers and Andujar will both be minus defenders at 3b for the duration of their careers. I actually think Andujar has more tools but far worse execution at this point. Andujar is a much better hitter at this stage. And dgalehouse, the same was said about Judge, Torres and Andujar on this site prior to 2017 and 2018. The system is stocked with pitching talent. Loaisiga was actually good before he got hurt. German has lightning stuff, he just cannot consistently locate. Sheff never got a chance. Adam, I said prior to the 2018 season, had taken a step back. For the life of me, I cannot understand why Adams was used in the 4 game sweep and Sheff wasn't. It boggles my mind
  7. I think that's a dicey game to play UNLESS we plan to allocate all of our off season assets to pitching. It also doesn't fix our right handed issues. Frazier is a heck of a talent who cannot seem to stay healthy. If he stays healthy, then we can actually make a decision on him. If he doesn't, then we are hitching our wagon to a 35 yr old OFer who declined sharply and ended up on the bench for the finish of 2018.
  8. Huh? Judge, Sanchez, Torres, Andujar, Severino are overhyped?
  9. I think the Yanks at least got good value in the 4 years we had with Gardner. As a true 4th OFer, I love this move. But this isn't a true 4th OFer move. We have a guy who could serve as a 4th OFer in Frazier. Our DH is an average OFer. It isn't like this offers us anything of substance when Hicks hits FA. It is just a puzzling move in a vacuum. All will be revealed, but if the plan is for Gardner to start day 1 in LF, then I will not be happy
  10. Sanchez has a special bat. He’s way better than we saw. He’s got a cannon behind the plate. He just gets lazy and he lacks quickness. If his work ethic behind the dish doesn’t improve, then I’m happy to see him DH. He will hit this year.
  11. Most don’t actually. Most seem fine with letting Xander walk. I see Xander in a similar light that I see Didi for us. Good, not great offensive player who can handle a serious defense first position in a good to very good way. Neither Xander nor Didi jump out aside from April last year when Didi was ridiculous. But their loss will be felt if they are dumped
  12. And you’re a blind homer as well. I told you we had big league level talent in the minors. We do have that talent. They just didn’t perform up to their talent. That happens sometimes with prospects. We still have 2 top 100 prospects who are big league ready and are starting pitchers. They didn’t disappear. And we didn’t even use the best of our prospects until the very end. Kinda hard to judge when you don’t use the best of what you’ve got, right?
  13. That’s just dumb. Too early on Andujar and Torres? They’re gonna be 1-2 in ROY. Severino has been one of the best pitchers in the AL over the last two seasons. Yes he faded late. So did Sale, right? Sanchez is a one dimensional hitter. He’s not a good catcher. He is a far better hitter than he was this year. Judge is a great player. He was 8WAR in 2017 and was on pace for a 7WAR season before he broke his wrist. Cmon now, you’re better than that
  14. Your heads are in the sand. And you’re right to have them there. You did just win a title. Your 2019 team has something like $25 mil to play with. You are losing some valuable talent in Eovaldi, Kelly, Pearce and Kimbrel. You can not retain them all. Your 2019 team will not be as good as the 2018 due to the attrition. And it’s kinda hard to stay 108 wins level good, ie it doesn’t happen. But will the 2019 team be a 92-100 win club with the changes, I assume so. Our window is propped open as long as our cheap talent is under control. Even through arbitration, the salaries are far less than the FA salaries. We have to decide on 2 players after 2019 in Didi and Hicks. From there, we don’t have cheap attrition until Judge, Sanchez and Severino hit the market before 2023. On the contrary, Tanaka and Ellsbury are FAs after 2020. Stanton can opt out after 2020 as well, although I think that’s unlikely.
  15. You couldn’t be more wrong Dojji. The age isn’t the issue. The years of control are where it’s at. We don’t have to worry about FA for Judge or Sanchez for 4 years. Torres 6 years. Andujar 5 years. Severino 4 years. That’s where a window comes in.
  16. Nick, this is where the attrition game comes into play. If Henry parlayed contracts like a Steinbrenner, then so be it. You cannot create a window with money alone nowadays. You need to use your farm to either deal for top notch talent or develop it. Ben and Theo developed the talent. Dan used it to create this monster of a club. Every single good team will have attrition. Other teams pull away from the super team and the price rises and teams fall. The sox peaked and won a title right smack in the middle of their window. They've got one more year before the pain sets in. Bogaerts is a very good player. There aren't too many 5 WAR players out there. He has been close to 5WAR now in 3 of the last 4 seasons. His first season of his next FA contract will be entirely as a 27 yr old. His age, production and position will be huge for determining his contract. He could conceivable get an 8 yr deal and be prime level for 6-7 of those years. He is gonna get huge money. And while you think his loss will be mitigated by keeping the other players, remember the construction of your lineup. When you have JBJ, Vasquez, and Nunez at the bottom of your order, are you willing to have another minus offensive producer in Xander's place? Also, I know JD changed your lineup, but when he opts out after 2019, he will be 32 years old. Do you offer another 5 year deal at big money to a DH knowing he will not be worth it maybe even a year or two into the contract? I honestly think DD will sign Xander no matter the cost and will thank JD for his time here, offer a QO and let him walk
  17. He’s worth something as a 4th OFer, but I’m just confused as to the timing. This makes me wonder if they’re gonna give Frazier a go in the OF or if they are gathering contingent players because Frazier is gonna be part of a deal. I honestly have no idea.
  18. And the above coincides with the fall of Houston and Cleveland and the rise of NYY. If things break right, the Yanks could be looking at a solid window of contention where our team comes into its own while the current titans in the AL fade.
  19. Here’s the timeline... 2019- championship caliber team, able to stay around upper level lux tax limit with a fair amount of useful depth on offensive side. Pitching should be top notch assuming Sale’s health. Pen to take a bit of a hit, likely to improve in season with callups or trades. 2020- much more long term cash pumped in, stay top level with less contingencies. Spots that used to have quality regulars or good role players now have fill in/throw away level players (like 2b, 1b). Injuries or ineffectiveness will be far more apparent. This will be the first year where a depleted farm will show on the big league field. If everyone stays healthy, theyll be good. One big injury and it’ll be felt considerab. Pen will be patchwork 2021- reallocation of resources. Core is maintained with Betts, Beni, Bogey, Bradley?, Devers. Big fall off seen on the pitching front. Drift towards mediocrity. Sell off of more expensive but still useful parts. Dombrowski exits after the season to leave the rebuild to someone else 2022- year to pump more money in or just blow it up
  20. And also be a left handed hitter when needed in a righty stacked lineup. I’d like that idea if I didn’t think McCann would command a good amount or that he is done. I think he will get a nice contract from someone and I also think he’s probably done
  21. He brings defense, some speed, and a good at bat. He doesn’t have the power he once had. He doesn’t have the speed he once had. Yeah, his hit is $9.5 mil this year, but $2 mil was sunk cost. A $7.5 mil player on the FA market is either a second tier starter or a highly utilized backup. I think he’s going to be our leadership presence plus insurance for Hicks or Frazier
  22. I think they signed him to eventually be the 4th OFer. I think Cash is giving a legit chance to Frazier to win the job
  23. Makes me wonder if we are gonna deal from our surplus
  24. They declined his option, so he got $2 mil there. Then he got $7.5 mil for 2019. The Yanks save $3 mil compared to picking up the option. I like Gardner. He’s a versatile guy who runs well and plays good D. But he should have been allowed to walk. Oh well
  25. You’ll need all $43 mil delta to keep those guys then you’ll have to re-sign Betts the following year. DD is gonna proper this thing open for as long as he can. I do wonder if the Sox re-sign Sale. He’s got issues with his shoulder, his body habitus and his endurance. I think they say goodbye after 2019 unless he shows those issues are in the past
