  1. A 5th starter isn’t really a “good cost controlled starter”. A 5th starter is usually a not very good starter. And then touting the pitching depth, cmon now
  2. There’s a good chance that the detritutus in your minor league system develops a good const controller starter? Cmon now, the Sox haven’t developed a good starter since ERod and they had to get him while he was in AAA from the O’s. None of the guys listed above are likely to impact the team as a starter, outside of Groome who is a total wild card after missing so much development time. Expecting your minor leagues to fill the pitching hole is wishing, not being reality based.
  3. You are such a fanboy it’s ridiculous
  4. For 2020 assuming no re-signing JD, Bogey or Porcello, fixed costs are as follows Sale $29 mil Price $31 mil Pedroia $14 mil Pablo $5 mil Vasquez $4 mil Eovaldi $17 mil Arb Betts $30 mil ERod $8 mil Bradley $12 mil Beni $5 mil That’s $155 mil right there. Still gonna need to withhold $15 mil for medical and another $10 mil for other arb players and you’re up to $180 mil. You’d be down a starting pitcher, 1b, SS, DH. You’d have $28 mil to fill those holes. My question is whether you go hard for Bogey and give him years over AAV (10 yr $230 mil contract) let JD and Porcello walk and replace the 5th starter, 1B and DH slots internally with Johnson, Dalbec and Chablis. You might be able to do that and sneak under the first threshold, but that leaves you no wiggle room and without JD, Pearce/Moreland and Porcello. Probably not enough to win it all, but could still be a 2nd level WC squad
  5. That would be good. Waiting til past OD only left the risk on the player should they get hurt
  6. What a dumb take. Seriously, you can’t help yourself Aimed at FsB
  7. This extension will not wipe out 2019’s salary. They’ll also announce this after OD so the extension won’t have an impact on 2019. Starting in 2020, his AAV will be $29 mil
  8. This essentially eats Pablo’s money for 2020. Sale’s $12 mil plus Pablo’s $18 mil
  9. Plus minus on being reasonable. Sale sold off some years to gain a big payday. The Sox traded uncertainty about the shoulder for a shorter term. If fully healthy, he blow away Price’s 7 yr $217 mil contract, but that isn’t the case. So each side gave a little and I’m sure both are happy
  10. Go to roto world or mlbtraderumors
  11. No word on terms, but DD extends the ace. Surprised they didn’t wait til FA, but I’d assume he’s going to get humongous money
  12. Your rotation alone is going to win 92 games. Hahaha
  13. He signed a 5 years $100 mil extension. He’s getting $600K for 2019. Hence, he’s under contract for 6 yrs and $100.6 mil. I’d offer that to Judge right now without batting an eye
  14. I would do it in a heartbeat. I adds 2 years of control on an icon and puts him just a tick below Stanton in AAV
  15. This from mlbtraderumors.com. He intends to get top dollar and thinks some of these players left money on the table
  16. And what did Bregman just sign? He got 2 extra years at $20 mil AAV, but his next 4 seasons, he will see $60 mil.
  17. If you projected out WAR/game over the last 2 seasons, they’re pretty even. Projected over a 162 game season, Betts is 0.7WAR better than Judge, so not a big difference. The issue right now with Judge is he is still in pre-arb whereas Betts has already gotten $30 mil guaranteed. Also, Judge is 6 months older than Betts but has two less years of service time, meaning he’s gonna hit FA as an older guy and will demand a lesser contract. I thought buying out a year of control would cost us a bit, but I’d do a Bregman contract with Judge right now. Bregman and Judge are the same in terms of service time. I’d keep Judge on the books as pre-arb and sign him to a $20 mil AAV over 5 years and buy out 2 FA seasons
  18. We’ve got a few open spots. There’s still a few more days of ST, though
  19. He’s gonna get top dollar.
  20. The Sox can afford him, but they’d end up like the Angels with a team full of scrubs surrounding a stud player. Betts is the rare ultra talented player who will hit FA at a young age. He’s not Harper, he’s far better. Bryce plays awful defense. Betts plays GG defense. Bryce doesn’t run. Mookie can steal 30. Harper hasn’t been healthy or consistent, Betts has averaged 8 WAR the last 3 seasons. He’s not Trout, but he’s close. With DD at the helm, I actually think Betts is definitely going to be re-signed. He’s a star seeker, so he won’t let him walk without being the top offer. The problem with DD right now is the farm system. You can re-sign some of your star players, but you have to be able to let some go and replace them from within to win with big contracts. DD’s farm is short on talent, so the likelihood of being able to re-sign Betts and field a top notch squad is low I do wonder what the arb number will be for 2020 for Bette. Probably over $30 mil
  21. I keep thinking it’s the International League. I keep wondering why all these players are being sent to AAA with injuries
  22. I bet Dellin wished he signed the extension offer now. Yeah, the injuries are piling up. This one we at least have the depth to absorb. Not worried about Hicks. Sevy and Betances are more worrisome since it’s a shoulder. We shall see. If I could take a deal of losing Betances but getting vintage Sevy back, I’d jump. Betances is probably out, best case, into June
  23. Mookie is going to be using this extension as his starting point. Mookie will be one year younger when he hits FA compared to the first year of Trout’s extension. Also, Trout signed this while still under contract with LA, meaning that he gave away what the free market would offer for the security beyond his current deal.
  24. This Gio deal is nuts. $3 mil to sign, opt out April 20th if not up with the big leaguers. $300K per start he makes in the majors. If he makes 23 starts for us, it’s a $10 mil deal. Surprised Cash went that high, unless they truly feel he’ll be elsewhere soon
  25. You can find a Dan Butler anywhere. Vazquez does have the higher offensive ceiling, but it’s not like it’s a high ceiling. Swihart is a mystery both offensively and defensively. Leon won’t hit, but he seems to have a way with pitch calling. You might end up carrying three and seeing how things fall. If the offense takes a step back and you need more offense, then Leon goes packing. If the offense is rolling and the pitching takes to Leon, then you send out Swihart. If Swihart goes nuclear, then he makes it much more difficult. If Vazquez was able to have the rapport with the pitchers plus his defensive skills, he’d make Leon irrelevant
