  1. We can afford it, but Cash doesn’t want to go past that final hurdle. We’re at $230 mil right now. With Scherzer making $30 mil AAV (yes, some is deferred, but it counts to AAV) we’d have to wait til around the break to ensure we get below the cap. Yes, there is only one Scherzer, but we’ve got the parts for a trade. While the national publications aren’t terribly high on our cream of our system, I can guarantee you we have enough if Max hits the market. The big question is, do we match up? We’ve got an OFer who’s lead the package, but the Nats have two OFers already who aren’t going anywhere in Robles and Soto. We’ve got a SS in Estrada, but they’ve got Turner. We have a ton of minor league pitching depth, but outside of an injured Loaisiga and a trending up Garcia, none are headliners right now (maybe Abreu now that he’s healthy). I want us to exhaust our abilities on a top end starter. I don’t want Bumgarner mostly due to acquisition cost. He’s a #3 or 4. He’d be fine if we don’t have anyone else, but I’m not sending any premium prospects for him. The bottom line is this. We have 14 games left with each other. We are facing the Astros while they’re scuffling and without Springer. We also miss Cole and we are at home, where we’ve been nails against them in the past. I doubt we all of a sudden drop 3 in a row. Maybe 1-2, probably 2-1. And it’s not like you guys are sweeping teams and running on all cylinders. Offense and reasonable pitching does very well in the regular season. The postseason is where aces shine. We need ours back and maybe another one, but you’re gonna need a rash of injuries to catch us in the regular season.
  2. The hay that’s been made to this point is the big difference in the division. I’d agree if we were all locked up together, but 8 games in the L column is a lot to make up for. This Yankee team reminds me a lot of our title teams. A good mix of power and contact, a good but not great rotation and a lock down pen. I think the fact that we are getting guys back now is the difference. You’re 8 games back of a team that lost 3 of its perennial All Star hitters for 50+ games and also lost a guy who’s been top 10 in the CY two years running for every game thus far. German, who’s got the second highest win total in the majors, is throwing again and may be back in early July. Severino is throwing and is a week away from mound work. He’s looking like a late July return. JMont looks like he’s gonna be a bigger wild card with shoulder inflammation. But so be it. We also are in the market for a starter and not a Mike Fiers type, a Max Scherzer type. Our offense and pen will allow us to avoid long losing streaks. You’re gonna have to beat us to get back at us barring another rash of injuries.
  3. I will agree that he hasn't been what he was the years prior, but that's assuming he continues at this pace the whole year. If he finished the year with a mid 4's ERA, I will say you were right
  4. How Deivi Garcia is not there is a sin. That's incredulous that he isn't there
  5. It's not terribly significant especially since we aren't even at the halfway point. He had a terrible March start, a representative April, a bad May (albeit 4-1) and a good June thus far. In the 3 yrs prior to this one, he has had a significantly better ERA post ASB than before.
  6. Just dropped an 8 spot on a starter with an era under 3 and a good pen.
  7. I don’t think he’s having a setback year. I expect him to be akin to Porcello with less innings. 30 starts, 170IP or so, 4.2 ish ERA
  8. When I posted my wish list I had said Happ was a good 5 inning pitcher for us and with our great pen, he’s a fine fit. That hasn’t changed
  9. Happ and CC are what they are. I said it from the beginning and during the offseason. They're 5 inning pitchers. Limited risk, money wasn't insane, so Happ's deal was fine. Do I want him on the mound in anything but a game 4 of the postseason, absolutely not
  10. Deivi is our top prospect IMO. I’d be very reticent to let him go. I don’t deal him for anyone but Scherzer (clearly not 1 for 1).
  11. I doubt it stays that way for long
  12. That’s my expectation. I just don’t want a rental unless Sevy returns and is himself. I had Montgomery penciled into next season’s rotation, but if he's one of the 20% or so who have complications and never comes back right, we’ll need someone for 2020 too. And if we’re going to spend prospect capital, we might as well do it for someone who’s gonna be around for a bit. I like our 2-3 in the playoffs. I do think Paxton and Tanaka are good pitchers and Tanaka especially has been a lights out pitcher in the post season. But we either need Sevy to be Sevy or get someone who could be
  13. Bogey ties it, but you lost Devers. Leg injury running
  14. He's a DH playing 3b. Not sure why he is even there
  15. low blow man. Wow, you really hate him on a deeply personal level. Did he bang your sister? Kick your dog?
  16. We still treated them like our bitch earlier in the year. The twins have always been and will always be owned by the Yankees
  17. I have never seen JD chase as much as I have of late.
  18. We are adding Judge to a lineup that just laid waste to the Rays pitching staff. One that is still #1 in baseball in ERA. It is still 0.53 ahead of Houston for the AL lead. This is after getting squashed for 12 runs today. This lineup is no joke
  19. Judge expected to be activated Friday. The lineup will be complete for 2019. 1. Lemahieu 3B 2. Judge RF 3. Sanchez C 4. Stanton LF 5. Encarnacion DH 6. Voit 1B 7. Gregorius SS 8. Hicks CF 9. Torres SS Urshela and Gardner waiting in the wings. This is an awesome lineup. They can be patient and aggressive. Hit for power and contact. The meshing of the team is absolutely incredible. This is a championship lineup. The rotation... not so much
  20. Montgomery exited live BP after 15 pitches due to arm discomfort
  21. That’s where you are wrong my friend. The $5mil next year is covered by the Rays. The Yanks split the remainder of this year, or around $4.5 mil
  22. Tanaka with the CG SO beauty vs a good team. Tanaka with an extra day of rest is untouchable.
  23. Porcello is going to be who he is. He's had an FIP between 4.01 and 4.60 in 4 of the five seasons he has been in Boston. His only year out of that range was his CY year. He is who he is. He will give you quality innings and mostly be average to slightly above. His insane HR rates blunt otherwise solid peripherals. You can extend him if you want, but this past FA period showed that guys with good but not great track records and durability don't enjoy huge contracts on the open market. He's the Lance Lynn or Dallas Keuchel of the open market. He is likely looking at a 3-4 yr deal in the $15 mil per season range. Last year, I thought he'd easily see $18-$20 mil per annum with a 5 year outlay, but with the markets the way they are, I doubt that ever happens
  24. Which is absolutely baffling that pitchers are giving him anything other than high heat. If I were pitching to him, I would throw him breaking balls down and out of the zone and high fastballs. He would see nothing else. I had a similar issue as a ballplayer (Chavis is clearly way better than I was). The high fastball was impossible to lay off of and very hard for me to hit. As a RH hitter, I loved the low ball which was outside of the expectations of most RH hitters
  25. I read that the Yanks are on the hook for about $4 mil with EE this year.
