  1. are they f***ing crazy? They likely passed up the best deal they will be offered.
  2. What would be equal return? Another right handed power bat with the HOF in sight? None of those seem to be available right now, so they will have to take less value. And the more players they get in return, the lesser the value will become. If you want one stellar player or 2 good players or 3 prospects or 4 long range prospects, get the drift. I see the sox filling the closer role with a guy in this trade, but likely not an elite closer, filling SS with a defense first SS (like Gonzalez was) and then getting a prospect or two that are long range. Fills holes but doesnt give that warm and fuzzy feeling and in 3 yrs the impact will likely never be felt.
  3. Carpenter in the AL would not be the same pitcher. Zito in the NL will be a better pitcher.
  4. this is what happens when you offer fringe guys arb for the express purpose of obtaining compensation. Thing is, they should have offered arb to Loretta because he is at least useful and would be rather cheap if he accepted. Foulke is useless and eating up 6mil is not worth a draft pick that may come back. The malcontent is back, every Johnny from Burger King should watch out. Good thing I went to Micky D's today.
  5. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=cnnsi-yankeesclosetop&prov=cnnsi&type=lgns SI says that the yankees and Pettitte could hammer out a deal by the weekend.
  6. here is the thing, the sox are trying to nab 3 young players, and will likely get 2 MLB ready prospects in return with a third being a ways away. Assuming that one of them lives up to billing, you still dont have ful return on investment. And when Broxton or Shields or Linebrink blows a save next yr the same day Manny hits a walkoff in Cali next yr, these same idiots will be crying for Theo's head to be put on the chopping block for not getting equal value for a future hall of famer and the best red sox player since Ted. The Boston media is like nothing else.
  7. wow. I have never seen a star get shat on like this. Well, yeah I have. During the Damon negotiations. Or maybe before Nomar was dealt. How about when Mo Vaughn left or when Clemens took the money north of the border. Man, the boston media treats players like condoms. Useful during the fun times then throws it in the trash when the fun is over. The man actually said that Manny is taking a proverbial piss on all red sox fans. WOW.
  8. foulke back at 6mil is a huge detriment to this team. What a pisspoor offer.
  9. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/12/05/lester_said_to_be_making_progress/ A source said that Lester's cancer is in remission and is expected to be in ST for 2007. FANTASTIC NEWS. GOOD LUCK JON! This is a lifelong fight but the early returns are very good.
  10. Another thing that would make sense about this move is that any Pettitte signing would not involve the movement of any of their young AAA pitchers. It would also keep them in AAA for the whole season for seasoning as they get stronger.
  11. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/story/477269p-401559c.html http://www.nypost.com/seven/12052006/sports/yankees/yanks_pitch_bronx_to_uncertain_pettitte_yankees_george_king.htm http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-spyanks1205,0,4514236.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines http://www.newsday.com/sports/printedition/ny-spyanks045002244dec04,0,4078269.story?coll=ny-sports-print whoever was wondering about the Yankees direction, I think it is fairly obvious. The Yankees want Andy Pettitte and from published reports, it looks like the Astros may be moving on without the lefty. The Woody Williams signing was likely an indicator of the stros disinterest in a rocket redux and now the stros are making a pitch to Schmidt, Lilly and Meche. The Yankees obviously want to add stability and Pettitte would certainly offer that. He surpassed 200IP each of his last 2 seasons and 2005 was a career yr for him. Last season, he struggled out the gate after offseason surgery but finished strong as the stros tried to make their annual playoff push. Not only would Pettitte offer the yankees another left handed starter (something that would be even more intriguing should the sox sign Drew and move Manny) but they would be adding a pitcher with extreme yankee ties while still being close to prime. At 34, with Clemens work ethic (and exercise program), and with a huge frame he will likely last a bit longer than a guy like Lilly or other smaller pitchers. Overall, I never endorsed signings of Meche or Lilly or any of the like as I think they would be Pavano all over again. But signing Pettitte would add a top of the rotation arm with Yankee experience and I think that is something that cannot be quantified.
  12. I have seen him pitch on you-tube and at the WBC when the hitters were certainly not awake yet. His stuff is solid, but I have no speculation how he will fare in a 5 man rotation in the AL East.
  13. maybe not. Theo has told a few teams that a legit offer is on the table and that it centers around young pitching. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6239558
  14. I never said that. I have the yankees 3 and 4 starters having era's close to 5 and the 5 starter is not even useful to speculate. If you find my predictions on the sox rotation, you will see that I was a lot more favorable to them than I was to the yankee rotation. The only thing I think the yankee rotation will surpass the sox in is the durability category as there is precedent for 4 of their starters to come near or surpass 200IP. At the same time, right now is all we have. I cannot speculate on the red sox possibilities in the pen or in the lineup until something is finished. While on the yankees side, they have a very nasty offense and a loaded pen already. They are auditioning for a right handed 1b, that is it, and he will likely be hitting 8 or 9. Right now the sox are entertaining dealing the best hitter they have had since Teddy Ballgame and would essentially get them pitching in return rather than a bopper.
  15. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6239558 breaking news, Red Sox have a legitimate offer on the table that involves young pitching.
  16. is the NHL still around? What about the all-american 5X5 1 on 1 tournament called the NBA? Who cares. The NFL? Fun to watch, but dont really care. ND is where it is at in college FB and I love baseball.
  17. Yeszir, please put an end to this madness. Hey seabeach, the more you give him the deeper you will sink.
  18. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-061204baseballwhispers,1,5058149.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines that fills one spot if it is true.
  19. go back under your bridge you troll.
  20. thank you so much for your great contribution!!!! I cannot believe you are online right now, I think Laguna beach is playing!!!! You guys out on the west coast are like so like awesome like yeah
  21. Yeah, you really have a clue what you are talking about. Averaged 6IP with a 3.3ERA for you guys. Go back to the SoCal boards where you belong before the rest of this country wises up and cedes you from the nation.
  22. and this is Boras we are talking about. The guy will not go in saying that a few japanese scouts said that he is likely to be a 3. He is going to go in saying that this guy is going to be better than Pedro in his prime and he wants to be paid like it.
  23. not a ceiling of a 3, the likelihood of settling in as a 3.
