  1. figured I'd start a new thread as I cannot figure out how to change titles. The Red Sox and Julio Lugo have agreed on a 4 yr contract so says Steve Phillips. The particulars have not been laid out, but the offer to beat was the Mets offer of 4yrs 36milyet the sox were reluctant to go that high. The one thing the sox had over anyone was the open SS position.
  2. no link, but it is from rotoworld. Steve Phillips is reporting on ESPN radio that the red sox and Lugo have agreed to terms. The offer on Lugo's plate from the Mets was 4yrs 36 mil and it is believed that the sox did not want to go that high.
  3. The beauty of any Pettitte deal is the length. The guy was fighting over retiring, so it isnt like he is going to hold out for a 4 yr deal. He is 34, which for a large framed pitcher should still be prime, and he is a 10 yr veteran of the yankees. The guy is a perfect fit right now. The yankees need a short term plug until Hughes, Sanchez, and Clippard are ready. They are trying to get a former yankee top of the rotation left handed pitcher while he is still in his prime when he only wants 1 or 2 yrs. Perfect. This fell right into their laps.
  4. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061205&content_id=1751300&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp yankees offer Pettitte 1yr 15mil with a player option.
  5. okay, if you make the admission that he is below average in CF but not as much of a circus in CF as he is in RF, then I can buy that.
  6. then why was Mussina's 19mil considered when the AAV of his contract was in the 16mil range? I think you are wrong on this one. Clement's cap number jumped from 5 to 9 last season.
  7. The aging Abreu, I love it. He was the guy who threw dirt on the sox grave last yr, yet he is aging. LOL. As for my point, my point is that Manny will likely be dealt. This bears out in the payroll numbers. Subtracting Manny's 18 mil gives them some money to fill the holes not filled by the trades and will keep them under the tax. If he is kept the sox will likely be operating in the 160-165 range, which is a lot of money and with the 51.1 spent on Matsuzaka would be the single highest amount of money spent on players in one season, ever(not just lux tax mind you). So I think he will be traded, unless Theo wants to single handedly prove to everyone that the sox do have the capacity to be the yankees if they wanted to.
  8. nope. He wasnt offered arb.
  9. that is the point. Closers are short lasting beings who lose it as quickly as they got it. Mo's draw was not just his uncanny ability to be the best, but the fact that he has been the best forver it seems. Also, there are rumors about Gagne, you know, the tainted B12. You figure it out. The guy went from a slightly pudgy pitcher to a beast in a season. I dont think that is natural.
  10. I still think there is no way that the scrooging sox FO will shoulder 35mil in yearly salary for 2 corner OFs. If that is the case, expect Matsuzaka to be going back to Japan.
  11. I heard they had a secret sex tape, she strapped one on and ole Danny Boy was loving it.
  12. Circus in center would be hilarious for 162.
  13. good to see a sox fan with his head on straight. Mo is the best bar none.
  14. I am not terribly familiar with those other guys, but sounds like the Boston media takes classes in Asshology 101 Career ruining 202 (advanced class) Conceit 101 Deception 400 (Honors level) and finally Anal Ramming 500 (the globe writers teach this one).
