  1. I am not looking for reassurance my friend. I am asking if you would undo this trade? Simple, concise, yes or no.
  2. man, it is late, I have had too much caffeine and now I am digging up old threads. Just read one about the sox offensive predictions and it was rather accurate for the 06 season. Saw this one and thought, hmmm, how many would change their tune. So, how many will change your tune on this deal right now?
  3. i wouldnt mind seeing the cubbies lose another couple WS's.
  4. You had it right up to the point where you equated the MLS with Boras. If the sox dont get this done, the egg will be on their face much more than what it would be on the agent. The agent is there to get the best deal for the player, the right value. In today's market, Matsuzaka, as a FA would make 16-20 mil a season. At the same time, seeing as Matsuzaka has had his fate controlled since he was in diapers, having the sox have 6 yrs of control over him is unfair and should be something that Boras exclusively seeks unless they pay him handsomely for his 6 seasons. The sox showed their hand. You dont bid half a hundred mil on a guy then be afraid to offer him a ton of money. If the sox were not prepared to offer the big contract then someone else would have. Overall, who would look worse? The agent trying to get a player favorable deal. Or the team that bid a major league record 51.1mil who is trying to save a buck now and have a company friendly contract. Sorry, but the sox showed their hand with the 51.1 and if they arent willing to pony up the dough after spending 51 mil just to talk to Matsuzaka, then the egg is on them. It may hurt Boras, it may not. But if the sox dont close this, they will be significantly affected in the market that they so wanted to open up, and not in a good way.
  5. once he leaves, the yankees will need TWO solid closers to replace what he has meant to this club. He has his failures as well, but he takes them with dignity. And there is nobody who stares at the most riveting, terrorizing, tension building, clutch moment and handles it with class like Mo.
  6. Varitek. The man may be declining, but he has proven time and again that he is the heart and soul of that team.
  7. like holy sh1t I got pwned11!!1111!!! LOLZ PWNED11!!!11!!11!
  8. is this still an american sport?
  9. he had a bad knee in august when he missed 4 weeks. His knee was fine during the season.
  10. Drew's OPS was 230 point lower facing lefties last yr than it was facing righties. The yr before that, his OPS vs lefties was 324 points lower than vs righties. I'll take the recent trends.
  11. and a decent stint before that in SF. The guy can be a solid reliever if he is healthy and he has had back problems for the past 3 yrs at least.
  12. the offer that I was referring to was the 4yr 32mil offer that was reported not long ago. THAT my friend is a ******** offer in this market.
  13. then how can you explain a .360 OBP with a .280BA in over 400 MLB at bats on a team where he was obviously the guy they wanted to go after in the lineup? Luck is something I could see if the guy walked 15 times in 100 PA's, but 56BB's in 460ABs doesnt happen by accident. Power, maybe, batting average, definitely, but walks in a lineup where he would be considered the easy out, is something that does not fly in my book.
  14. there is an agreement that Pettitte will decline the option if he is injured. A bad elbow is subjective. Pavano had a mildly bad elbow and missed the whole season. Aside from 04 surgery, Pettitte has been very reliable and should continue to be so.
  15. until you traded away a reliable and cheap arm for wimpy.
  16. that was Ruben Rivera if I remember correctly.
  17. the fact that they had Izzy for almost the entire season shows the difference. The Cardinals had a stable back end of the pen with Looper and Izzy. The rest of the pen developed while those guys shouldered the load of the clutch innings. By the time Izzy went down, one was able to step up. If they had no Izzy or Looper to start the season last yr, I can guarantee you they would have been below .500 and that pen would have been in shambles. Also, you are talking about one of the worst divisions in baseball. The pen struggled mightily until the playoffs. That s*** can fly in the NL, but if you put that in the ALE and the sox will be toast.
  18. I think it would be a good peripheral move. They certainly have enough power. They have enough offense. Adding a good D 1b with solid OBP skills would be useful.
