  2. dont speak too soon. If they are saying that it is going to be the largest offer to an unproven player, then they will be surpassing the 8mil a yr threshold, which is half of what he is looking for anyways. If they surpass Matsui's new contract, then they will surpass 12mil. If they surpass Matsui's contract and he doesnt agree, then you know DMat has accepted the credo of in Boras he trusts.
  3. the pirates were said to have signed him already. This is strange.
  4. every ace pitcher that hits the market will be making 15+. Not many make it to market.
  5. Not sure. He's got the devil in his ear and it sounds like he is listening.
  6. Not correct my friend. Pitching has become an absolute premium. Also, look at those contracts. The Yankees with Giambi, the sox with Manny, the Rangers with ARod. There hasnt been a dire need on offense for either of these 3 free spending teams until this yr with Drew. The Yankees will have an opening next yr when the CFers will be available. Expect the next 20 mil player next season. Also, there has not been a sure fire ace to hit the market in a long time. Most get locked up prior to the FA yrs. Zambrano may set a record next yr.
  7. It was something I read in passing, but it was definitely in the "unnamed source" category.
  8. schilling doesnt have Boras as an agent and a ton of the money was guaranteed, and at the time he was being paid top dollar in guaranteed money.
  9. the angels do now. Signing Speier and Oliver adds one too many arms. How bout this. Colon, Shields and Morales for Manny? If colon comes back the sox will add an ace and shields gives them a 1+ inning closer.
  10. it will be interesting to see what happens. Deadline's a'comin.
  11. what I really dont understand is why the sox are playing poorboy after throwing 14 mil away on Drew. They really have no ground on this. If you are going to go balls to the wall on crappy ass talent, then why short change the guy the sox REALLY want.
  12. No, c'mon man. The big guys are getting GUARANTEED MONEY. Incentives are potential money. The big guys get the money regardless. He wants GUARANTEED MONEY. Why do you think Ricky Williams first contract was considered the dumbest contract in football? Because it was all incentives that injury precluded him from reaching.
  13. you want shields. He will cost a TON. He will be the biggest find for the sox. Add in another back end reliever and a switch hitting power prospect and you get a deal done. Otherwise, you could get Broxton, but there are no other relievers in that pile that they could send your way and neither Kemp nor Loney have the upside of Morales.
  14. you dont hire boras by accident. He is going for BIG money. If he wanted just a deal to get done, he never would have hired the biggest prick (and the best agent) in baseball.
  15. How can I say that he is being lowballed? Because he is widely considered the best FA on the market. The s***** starters on the market are getting more than the sox are offering. The highest paid guy gets 16 mil a season. If you think half of that is not lowballing, then I dont know what is.
  16. Boras HATES incentives. Guaranteed money homey. That is how Boras rolls.
  17. I completely agree with you. Unless the sox give Boras EXACTLY what he wants, he will walk. He wants 3-6 yrs 15mil per. Otherwise, he has no interest in bartering down.
  18. Manny to the Angels for Shields, Donnelly, and Morales. Morales offers the switch hitting power potential and the other 2 solidify the back end of that pen.
  19. I wouldnt necessarily agree with that statement. They will need to deal manny IMHO. Deal Manny to the Angels and nab 2 bullpen guys to backload the pen and use the pitching to hopefully win 90 games.
  20. does theo know how many people he is screwing over if he lowballs matsuzaka?
  21. I know I made the same post about Gagne. Lets just assume for a second that Boras and the sox dont agree and Matsu flies away. What will the sox do as far as adding a fifth starter? The options include Mulder, Zito, Suppan and Trachsel plus other retreads (Ohka, Armas etc.). Which of these guys do you guys like or would you rather fill the 5 internally.
