  1. You picked 4 total starts that span 4 different months. I picked what amounted to 10 starts against the top teams offensively in baseball. There is no parallel.
  2. I also think that getting Gonzalez forces the yankees to get 1000IP out of their rotation. Having Proctor is nice insurance to have if the pen needs to be leaned on for a short stretch.
  3. of those 33 guys, 11 threw less games than Beckett.
  4. you can say that about any pitcher. Also, your definition of bad and terrible is subjective. I go more by QS or non-QS. He had 19QS last yr out of 33 total. Not bad, but not good either. He tied for 24th in the MLB with 9 other guys.
  5. ATG, I think Gonzalez has upside, dont get me wrong. And I think the time might be right to deal Proctor and Melky. But if the yankees are getting an injury prone lefty in return, count me out. Proctor gave the yankees 100 innings of relief last yr that nobody else was capable of taking, especially early on. If the yankees move Proctor, then a guy like Shields needs to be coming back.
  6. Piniero lost some velocity and doesnt have enough stuff to compensate. I think he signs a minor league deal somewhere and disappears.
  7. or spot on. I posted the top teams in the league as far as offense and the only ones on that list are TOR (who hit him around) and NYY who were 10 games up with 20 to go when he beat them and absolutely killed him in BOS when the season was still in doubt. BTW, I miss baseball. I just posted 20 games and I thought to myself, 20 games of baseball from right now to the new yr would really be nice.
  8. it is subject to the level of competition or the other teams state of affairs. I broke down his stats vs the good hitting teams and they are bad. If he gets waited out, he gets broken down.
  9. does formality in his contract mean that Theo finally woke up from his deep sleep and noted, holyshit what kind of deal did I sign off on for Drew?
  10. Matsu's walk rate ws much better than Nomo's. I debated this on a yankee site that I went on for a little while and it shows that Matsuzaka was significantly better in his last 3 yrs than Nomo was. Lets not fool ourselves. The guy has the tools and the resume that says he should be damn good for a long time.
  11. okay then. August 19th. POUNDED by NYY. 9BB 7H 5IP 9ER August 24th Beats ANA, team that doesnt hit well to begin with 6IP 1ER August 29th Loses to Oak 2ER 7IP, they cannot hit either Sept 3rd Loses to TOR 5IP 3ER 7 baserunners. Sept 9th Loses to KC 8IP 4ER 10 baserunner Sept 16th Beats NYY 6IP 2ER 4H 5BB to a team that had already packed it in Sept 21st Beats MIN 8IP 0ER another team that cannot hit Sept 27th POUNDED by TB. Dont give me the whole he was left in too long routine. He was at 92 pitches when he was pulled. 6.2IP 8ER. Here is all we need to know about Beckett. Top 7 in the league in offense (BOS was 6th) NYY 2-2 9.45ERA 2.00WHIP CLE 0-2 13.97ERA 2.07WHIP CWS 1-0 7.50ERA 2.00WHIP TEX 1-0 2.92ERA 1.30WHIP DET 0-1 7.50ERA 1.67WHIP TOR 1-2 6.21ERA 1.38WHIP his lack of a secondary pitch KILLS him against the better hitting teams.
  12. whoa whoa whoa. Great deal, but dont start pissing on the royals just yet. They didnt have to spend 51 mil on meche to speak to him. This is no bargain overall, so leave it at that. But as for what the player is getting, it is a good deal, a great one actually
  13. his low HR rate didnt make his august any better. Bro, everyone is going to have a short stretch of being good, hell even Bruce Chen had a good run 2 yrs ago. But to pick a 6 game span that doesnt even encompass his last 2 starts and to try and twist it into optimism for this upcoming season is homerism to say the least. If he doesnt have a curveball this yr and if he doesnt start throwing more strikes, then he wont change, period.
  14. Beckett's best months were when the pressure was off, April, May and for the sox last season, September. 2-2 4.54ERA 5GS 33.2IP 31H 23K 10BB 4HR in september But when the pressure was on, especially in August he EXPLODED. 5+ era's in June and July, then the stinker in August. 6GS 1-4 6.38ERA 36.2IP 39H 4HR 23K 18BB .277BAA Needless to say, he did not finish the season well. His lack of a second pitch and his propensity for walking people (surprisingly his BB/9IP only jumped by 0.3BB/9IP from 05 to 06) does not bode well for him. But if he is a 3 or a 4 depending on how Matsuzaka and papelbon fare, then he may be serviceable. But his days as a lock down ace left when he left south florida.
  15. admittedly, the WBC did not have the games best and those that were there were in ST form. He will have some issues with trying to handle the MLB at full speed. It wont be this easy.
  16. you guys wanted me to bash the NYY when they make a bad move n my opinion, and this sure as hell burns me bad. Consider me upset if this happens.
  17. also, I dont grade the yankees the way I would grade other teams. Maybe it is bias, but I think it is well founded. Money is no object to NY, but prospects are. In the yrs where they dealt away hoardes of prospects, I cringed knowing that the days that are now upon us would be happening. Either we'd be paying with another 1990esque crapfest or we'd be paying through the nose for (as Mr. Crunchy says) the 98 all star team. The reason why I think Cashman had done a solid job this offseason is because he has a team that is rather complete at this point. The pitching staff is formidable with Pettitte joining the fold, and it really has the potential to average 200 innings from each spot. The bullpen is closed by the best of all time and a pretty good bridge as of right now, and the offense is still sick. But at the same time, he added to the farm rather than subtracted. Adding Sanchez and Whelan will pay dividends for this team as well as Britton either in future deals or in actual MLB production. Hence, he fixed the only problem the yankees really had (actually both by getting rid of Sheff and Wrights pisspoor attitudes) and he patched up the pitching, while setting the team up better for the future. I thought he was being quite possibly the best GM in the league up to this point from the WS to now. Then, he pulls this s***. He may be about to deal a 21 yr old switch hitting CFer who had a .360OBP in his first full season in the bigs, and the absolute lynchpin of the bullpen in Proctor who is not old by any stretch for a f***in lefty who cannot find the strike zone and cannot stay healthy. I will puke if this trade goes through, and Cash can single handedly blame himself for giving away 2 impact players THIS YR for a guy who may be DLed for good come july. f***!!
  18. I bash theo for giving what is going to amount to 20 mil a season to a guy who never threw a pitch in the major leagues. Although I do think he will be very good, I think that there are other guys who will hit the market in the coming yrs who deserve that kind of cash rather than this guy. As for Igawa, I think he could be a good back end of the rotation guy this season, but since the yankees have a surplus of pitching, they can have the luxury of developing him a little. Igawa will likely cost about 10 mil a season (25 mil posting fee, 15 mil deal for 4 yrs), which is right in line with what a s***** back end of the rotation guy will cost. Hopefully he doesnt pan out that way.
  19. anyone who watched the sox in 2006 could see that they were tanking before the injuries set in. The injuries just hastened the fall. That team was flat out flawed from head to toe. The offense they brought in could make up for offense lost. The makeshift bullpen blew up on the bridge to Papelbon and their supposed young ace fell apart in his first yr in Boston. This was all going on before Wake, Vtek, Manny, and Ortiz went down.
  20. While I dont think he will have a 5+ era from here on out, I think he has a fatal flaw that will kill him, actually 2 flaws. He is wild and cannot rely on a secondary pitch when needs be. His draw was how nasty his other stuff was and how it complemented his heater. Now, his curve is useless because he cannot keep is hands intact after throwing it and hence he has lost faith in it. Without another pitch or likely 2, he will continue to struggle in the ALE. We should have seen it in RJ too. You cant get by on 2 pitches that are both hard in the ALE. The hitters are just too good.
  21. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribunereview/sports/s_483954.html looks like the yankees are serious about making this completely ridiculous mistake. f***ing idiots. I thought Cashman was having an A+ offseason till I saw this crap.
  22. sigh. 3era is all you expect? You expect him to be second to Johan Santana in the AL ERA chase? WOW. Talk about lofty and unreasonable expectations.
  23. I cannot believe that a guy who had the HIGHEST ERA IN THE NL got 7mil per season. Beckett would be severely overpaid in this market, but it isnt like he'd be worth it.
  24. you still need a pen there TRSF, but the rotation does sound pretty good.
