  1. in their defense, Gonzalez isnt exactly old, he'll be 29 in may and he is controlled for 3 more seasons. But I agree, I dont like this deal. The yankees have enough bullpen and they have a ton of young kids who could use that last BP spot to mature. This will kill that chance.
  2. so you were 12? when he left. Yeah, you remember it well LOL. Ask Crunchy, he was a bit older and more mature when Clem left. Just ask him what happened. On a side note, if a city essentially cursed your name after you left, then called and said we missed you, would you have any interest in going back? Hypocritical to say the least.
  3. An aging catcher behind an aging catcher. The key to this is Kottaras. If he sucks in AAA this yr, then the sox are gonna be in trouble. If he lights it up, I dont think Dougie lasts the season.
  4. That could be a BAD trade for NY. I dont like the idea of moving Melky, I just have a feeling the yankees will be trying to reaquire him in 5 yrs when he is a FA for insane $$$. But Gonzalez is a good reliever when he is healthy and he is young. I was just VERY against giving up Proctor too, as he is the lynchpin of the middle relief and dealing him for a lefty power reliever who cannot stay healthy doesnt scream lynchpin to me. Although, if the yankees acquire Gonzalez, expect Frns to be dealt for about 50 cents on the dollar.
  5. trupiano is boston radio. I lived in Beantown for a little while and listened to sox games. He was annoying a bit, but he was the sox on the radio. It will be weird hearing someone that doesnt have that squeaky quality to him.
  6. the boston fans from 10 yrs ago ATE HIM ALIVE. If you are not old enough to know, I am. He was brutalized in the media to a degree that would make Johnny Damon look like a saint. If you want to know a little about it, ask Mr Crunchy. He's an old timer who remembers it vividly from the sox side of things.
  7. theo is lying. His theory is to pick them up after a bad yr? Foulke, Embree, Tavares, Seanez, Timlin etc. were all coming off solid yrs when he got them.
  8. shhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Dont give Theo any bright ideas.
  9. I think the signing can be viewed on how much they spend on him. I am reading one yr contract which sounds more than minor league contract, which is what I would have expected on this. The sox are very right handed. Their nemesis in NY has Damon, Abreu, Giambi, Matsui, Cano and potentially Mientkiewicz in their starting lineup. Then you have Posada who has a little less pop from the right handed side as opposed to the left. The one thing he gave last yr was that he held lefties to a .202 BAA and a .600OPS. The problem being that he faced 15% more righties than he faced lefties, and righties lambasted him to a tune of a Manny-esqe OPS (1.029). The funny thing is, 2 yrs ago, those roles were reversed, as he dominated righties and was owned by lefties. Overall, this move depends on how much and what role he will occupy. If they want to use him like the yankees used Villone (set up man), then this is a VERY BAD MOVE. If they are going to try Okajima as a potential set-up man or at least a 1-2 inning reliever and exclusively use Romera as a lefty only pitcher, then this is a good move.
  10. 6.70ERA in the NLWest last season. 57H in 48.1IP. Sounds like a wing and a prayer here.
  11. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  12. Crisp and Hinske for Nady and Gonzalez. That sounds like a lot for a journeyman right handed version of Hinske and a lefty with injury issues. I was thinking straight up, Hinske plus a pitching prospect (one of the B's) gets it done straight up.
  13. Seibel is a strange cat. Languishes in the minors, then last yr turns it on to an unprecedented level. Then he comes up to the bigs and walks 5 in 2 innings. He could either become a dominating lefty specialist or a AAAA player who never sees the light of day. Either way, I'd do the deal 10 times out of 10.
  14. in the sox defense (cringe) they do have a very good lower level of the minor leagues. Their upper levels have either been called up or raped in trades. Now onto you Vin Scully. Is there any truth to the rumor that you take it from behind with unmitigated glee?
  15. Word is Nancy is having a "lady procedure" and may not be introduced for at least another week.
  16. so if you get ripped off by the pirates, does that make you a really bad GM?
  17. it wont be 16 mil a yr. The lux tax portion will only be on the 4 mil he would make per season, hence adding 1.5mil to the bill. Add that to the 4 yrs and you have a guy who will likely cost 46 mil over 4 yrs rather than 17-18 mil a yr over 6 yrs.
  18. I nearly pissed myself 3 times today reading your posts. LOL.
  19. REPEAT POST!!!!
  20. Not a bad deal. I have always liked Donnelly as he was a former scab who found a niche. The Yankees have had their way with him in years past to the tune of a 5+ ERA over the last 3 yr and a 9+ last yr in 4 games. But he is a guy who you can essentially pencil in for 60 innings, he'll likely have an era in the 4 range in fenway and would likely be pretty reliable. Him and Timlin should be able to share the setup duties and put up average performance there. Like I said, I like Donnelly, think he will be competent in the pen and would do them well. His only question is his age, as he will be turning 36 in the middle of the yr. They still need a closer though, but this is a good first step IMO.
  21. I am not sure he ever found out.
  22. Igawa will cost 10mil per yr for 4 yrs most likely. The red sox have spent 17 mil a yr for 6 yrs. Both are risks.
