  1. and he was a lefty. If he was right handed, he is flipping burgers right now instead of fighting for a spot on the A's.
  2. and Gabbard is a walk machine. He could make it in the NL, but in the ALE, he will be smashed.
  3. Snyder "healthy" isnt Snyder "good". When Snyder was the first round pick, he was throwing nearly triple digits. Now he can barely break 90.
  4. no kidding huh? Roger is still effective, but his IP/start has fallen to a spot under 6. In the ALE, it may not be much better than 5IP/start. Depending on what Igawa and Hughes show, I may be rooting for Raja to stay in Houston.
  5. he doesnt need to fleece the fans. He needs to fleece the FO. And trust me on this one, a phone call by the Hendricks to Steinny saying the sox are the highest bidder will fix that. If you honestly think George will be outbid for Clemens when the sox are the other bidder is naive to say the least. The only bidding the sox win over the yankees are bids the yankees dont intend to win (Manny, they wanted Moose) or those that are silent (Matsuzaka).
  6. I am not saying that he is a horrible person and that I would do any differently. But anyone who thinks Clemens will put the hearts and minds of the red sox fans into his decision, you are smoking something. And yes, btw, you get arrested 10+ times, you are automatically and *******.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=270322029 cant stand the guy, but 3 straight 50 point outings with a 65 and a 60 mixed in is ridiculous.
  8. The guy leaves Boston to go to Toronto after being told he was in the twilight of his career. He says he wants to win, so he goes to Toronto for 750K a yr more than what the yankees offered. Then he bitches and moans his way into a yankee uniform then "retires" from the yankees. Unretires, goes to Houston where he has the sweetest arrangement ever and then asks for a record amount for a pitcher. He holds them hostage last yr, now has the balls to keep 3 teams waiting till half way through the yr. Sorry dude, your buddy of a buddy may think the guy is a nice guy, but his actions speak loudly. The dude is a merc, has always been and always will be. He may be nice to the people he knows, but he is a stone cold businessman and his decision will be made regardless of whether the fans will build a shrine for him in Boston.
  9. if you honestly think Rajah has a compassionate bone in his body, then the joke is on you my friend.
  10. have you seen Carla pitch?
  11. Snyder and Gabbard are awful.
  12. haha, we shall see.
  13. trades are certainly an option. And no, a yankee fan who is being an ass would just say the red sox suck. A yankee fan who went through watching Jaret f***ing Wright burn the bullpen every 5th can tell you what Tavarez will do to your team.
  14. some guys cannot handle it. See: Arthur Rhodes.
  15. True.
  16. Chacon's era that yr was 7+
  17. Saves are immensely important. The point is, Papelbon was the link holding the sox staff together last yr. Late in the game, sox had a small lead, who comes in? Paps! Sox are tied late in a game, who comes in? Paps! Sox are down 1 late in a game, who comes in? Paps! He was the setup man, closer, reliever to keep it close, and reliever until the sox won the game. He filled tons of roles and pitched too many innings, especially late. If the sox stick to their "guidelines" then Paps is pitching 50 innings this yr. Who takes the other 25+ when the game is on the line? And note, those 25 innings are typically 25 1-inning stints. You better hope Donnelly stops the slide.
  18. it could be a very big problem. Look at the contingency plans. Tavarez- takes away your best long reliever. He is a baserunner machine who will kill the bullpen every 5th day. Gabbard- walks WAY too many and doesnt have good enough stuff to get away with it in 32 starts Pauley- just not that good. Lester- I love this kid as a person. Tough kid, could be a fantastic story and yes he is the one red sock who I will root for. But look at who he was. His stuff was okay, but it wasnt ace stuff. He put way too many runners on and he is coming back from cancer. You rush him back and you run the risk of ruining his development. He needed refinement before chemo, I can only imagine the amount of strength, command, touch he needs to regain now. DONT RUSH HIM. I want him to be good. He should not be an option at all this yr at least until the roster expands. Hansack- intriguing option, but very unproven. Could be a wildcard. You have one intriguing option, one poor option who hurts your pen, one option who needs refinement and time to get his body back, and two crappy options.
  19. well, one of the things I want to do is keep yankee s*** in the yankee section. Bringing yankee s*** here is a great way to get yourself thrown into the fire.
  20. the refs f***ed that one up something royal.
  21. the yankees have holes in the rotation as well. But we are in the sox section. If you want to bring up the yankees shortcomings, there is a yankee section.
  22. My point is that the sox FO should have had a contingency plan. They had no closer, so Paps leaves the rotation to fill that hole. Now they dont have a solid #4, which is what Paps would have been. And one of the sox biggest weaknesses was depth in the rotation. You lose Paps from that rotation and you essentially force Gabbard, Pauley and Snyder to be the next options, while removing Tavarez from mop up duty. If the sox were kicking this idea around, they should have brought in a guy who has better upside than what they have. That is all I am saying.
