  1. one guy can make others around him good enough to make the playoffs. To win it all, you need more than one guy.
  2. The Mick played a lot of games wasted. You remember the story, right? Mick was slated to start an afternoon game but was so drunk that he couldnt stand up, so they left him in the lockerroom. Coach runs and gets him for the late innings and hands him a bat in the bottom of the ninth and he stumbles to the plate and cracks the walkoff. Imagine what he could have been if he didnt tear up his knee on a storm drain and never touched a drop of alcohol.
  3. totally agree. I would be okay with a ban on him from ever managing or coaching in any capacity, but he should be in the hall of fame.
  4. Bryce Cox should not see the majors until Sept at the earliest. He still needs refinement. Especially when you have a kid who had some serious control problems in the past, his repetition of delivery is essential to his well being. And if he is rushed, he may revert to old forms. Let him get comfortable and get his s*** down and see what he can do as a Sept callup.
  5. and this is EXACTLY why I think the yankees win the east. If you guys have a trustworthy bullpen then it would be a dogfight and I'd only have the rose colored glasses telling me the yankees win the east. But when you have the most important inning of the game being handed to a bunch of guys fighting for the spot, you are asking for a disaster. If the sox get lucky and the first guy they try there is dynamite, then it will be a battle. But if there are any failed experiments, the sox are sunk for the east. They still may win the WC, but this is some serious s***.
  6. In 2005, his last yr in the ALE, he had a 5.90ERA in 71.2IP. For the first time in his career, he allowed more hits than IP. That yr, his walks were down, but so were his K's. Then, he was moved to NYM where he had a 5+ ERA with 31 baserunners in 21IP. He moves to ARI where he is playing in the warmth and against the worst division in baseball and he still skyrocketed his walk rate. He isnt the answer. And for a kicker, his last 3 yrs against the yankees isnt too nice. He has had some good bail jobs keeping his ERA under 6, but he has allowed 26 baserunners in 15IP for a WHIP of 1.73.
  7. gambling is an addiction. You get addicted to coke or alcohol and they send you to rehab. You get addicted to gambling and you get banned forever without any assistance whatsoever.
  8. who gives a flying f***. The guy had an addiction. He cannot manage anymore. Dont forget what he did on the field. He was one of the best hitters of all time. He should be in the hall.
  9. all that drinking and binging is finally catching up to him. It is kinda funny how a major league pitcher can still be considered one of the better pitchers in the league yet have diabetes type 2.
  10. He is getting better in the NLW. Julio's problem is that he has a ton of trouble with location. And if you are going to be facing the Jays and Yankees 38 times, you better believe his weaknesses will show.
  11. Thabeet is considering coming out? He is the softest big man I have ever seen. He would be laughed out of the league.
  12. Hughes has some dynamite stuff, but thus far this spring, his command is a bit off. Plus, his changeup isnt where it should be. He needs a few months of seasoning.
  13. If Andruw is traded, you better believe something serious is going back. I know the Braves were rumored to want Lester, Hansen, and Coco last yr. I would assume that Lester's cancer, Coco's s***** play and Hansen's implosion would mean more than that would have to go back. I dont think Andruw gets moved since I think the Braves will be in the running for the WC.
  14. I remember a game against the yankees where he was closing for the O's. He had a one run lead and walked the tying run and winning run in. I would LOVE to see him in sox red as the closer.
  15. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2007/03/18/talented_trio_on_center_stage/?page=4 Sox are looking at Linebrink. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/03/18/timlin_ok_after_throws/ Al Nipper has been scouting Lidge and Turnbow as well.
  16. anyone noticing that MLB07 the show is playing a bit choppy? I returned my PS2 thinking it was getting old, but it didnt change anything.
  17. Torre already said Pavano and Igawa will have the spots out of camp. Doesnt mean a ton though, as the yankees 5th starter will only get 2 starts for the first 4 weeks of the season. Pavano will be the 4th starter out of the chute because he needs regular starts. Igawa may be a long reliever/spot starter out of the gate and then Pavano's performance could cause Karstens/Hughes/Ohlendorf to nab the 4 and push Igawa into the 5.
  18. if it was a split squad, sometimes they bring up guys who have already been optioned down. I know the yankees did last week.
  19. Jones is getting bulkier as he ages, Hunter isnt. I think Jones moves to RF soon.
  20. Moss has the higher stock since he looks like he is a better hitter. This is well known throughout the minor league circles. But Murphy is the hard-nosed player who can play CF rather well. Murphy is a Brady Clark kind of player. He should make a solid 4th OFer somewhere and he might even be a serviceable CFer for someone. Moss is a bit further away.
  21. Pavano allowed no earned runs, yet he allowed 3 UER. I remember that about Pavano. He did alright if you had solid D, but he f***ing crumbles when an error was made. Fantastic quality to have in a starter. Man I hate that guy.
  22. NO s***! WORST MOVE EVER!
